Here's the current hot topic of discussion in our office: What two songs would you like played at your funeral, and for what reasons?

The only song I can think of is the ending theme to Katamari Damacy, accompanied by my coffin being hermetically sealed with a tonne of explosives in a ball stickied with all my possessions in life, rocketed to space, and detonated to become a star.
I'm dead serious.

I only have one song as well, and it's "Still Alive" because I will always still be alive, in people hearts that is, also I thinking of a career in science.
EDIT: Another song came to me. It's "What I've Done" it like a new start for people and also, if my life becomes someone else past life, it almost symbolic.

Honestly, with my sense of humor, probably Mermaider by Dethklok.
To comfort everyone else, though, I'd probably have one of my favorite songs played, "The Remedy" by Jazon Mraz.

Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky". Ever since I first heard this song in the pitch dark of my room, I've wanted this thing to send me off when I die.
For the other one, I'm not so sure. For some odd reason, I keep coming back to Rush's "Passage to Bangkok". I really don't know why.

One of them would be "Together Again" by Janet Jackson.
I hate the thought of a somber dirge at my funeral. I'd rather have an upbeat celebration instead.

"Goodbye Song" by Abandoned Pools.

Probably something by Sarah Mclaughlin, like 'Arms Of An Angel'. Or maybe Dancing by Elisa.

Cremation is my choice for disposal (I just can't see an $8000 funeral and taking up valuable land space in a graveyard).
That being said: The Terminator theme prior to services...classic robot music. Afterward when my ashes are poured out in some body of water, play: "Our underwater torch" by Squarepusher.

This is sort of related, but my friend did one of those 'shuffle your itunes' quiz and the question was what song she wanted playing at her funeral, the song was "My big mistake" LOL! >_<
As for me, i'd love a song called "Enough To Go By" by Vienna Teng to be played ^^

Given my sense of humor, I would want an ultra-hard rock song that has no business being played at a funeral such as "Rock You Like A Hurricane" (one of the greatest rock songs ever) or "Enter Sandman", though that's slightly more appropriate if you interpret the lyrics as referring to sending your soul to the great beyond.

If this thread came up a year ago, I would've said, "I don't care.........I'll be dead'
But I want a cool, and catchy, yet sad song to play while I'm being put into a hole into the ground.
I guess........!
"When Angels Fly Away"

Personally, I hope I don't have a funeral
If I had to, I would pick "Voyager" by Daft Punk, because it's spacey as if i'm accending to heaven but then shooting down to Hell

finally, a topic worth talking about. when every person i've thought has known something about me is staring at a corpse, what kind of message do i want to send? i think the best message i could send is "wake the hell up, buddy. this could be you!"
the songs i would choose: "Theme of Laura (reprise)" from Silent Hill 2 and "Never Forgive Me, Never Forget" from Silent Hill 3
the idea would be to keep people constantly focused on the fact that there is a dead one of what they are in the room. if possible, i also wish to be cremated, burned in front of all those who thought they knew me so they can see what i really am, or possibly allowed to decay somewhat before they see what they think i am.
i'm not trying to be gross. there is an important message that people try to hide from by throwing God at it or saying it's such a shame, by covering it with makeup or filling it with stuffing. it isn't a shame. it's the way things happen.
THIS WILL BE YOU. that's what i want my headstone (if i have one) to read.
That music in "Lost" when a major character dies.

"The Day I Tried To Live" by Soundgarden and "Brain Damage/Eclipse" by Pink Floyd would be excellent songs to bring attention to what they would consider my "lack" of sanity. They think I'm crazy so I might as well rub their noses in it.
Or maybe I would just have the album "Thick as a Brick" by Jethro Tull played. They would probably think I'm being deep about life and growing up. In truth it would be my way of mocking them for thinking they knew me when they only saw what they wanted to see. There was no purpose or reason. My life is a farce, just like the album.
Wow. I'm really starting to sound like a Nietzsche wannabe. :p

Hmmmm... That's a hard one. If I want to freak people out maybe "We're All Mad Here" by Tom Waits ("...and your eyes will die like fish, and the shore of your face will to turn to bone...").
I would like the Tralfamadorian philosophy on death from Slaughterhouse-Five read at my funeral... and no religious stuff... and no burial. I suppose I'll be cremated. I know I won't care because I'll be dead, but thinking of my body lying in a box is creepy and stupid.

Possibly "Imagine" by John Lennon.

Depends. If I die before my spouse, I'm going to request he play, "I Used to Love Her (But I Had to Kill Her)" just for the sheer shock value and the amount of "wtf" it will generate. If he really loves me or we were really well matched, he'd do it. XD
Odds and statistics say that I'll likely outlive anyone though, so moot point. I've put "I'm Set Free" by the Velvet Underground on heavy rotation lately. So that one, probably. The other one might be a Roy Orbison tune ("You Got It" for the significance it was to him and his death) or John Denver's "Leaving on A Jet Plane."
The final song would have to be "Obla Dee Obla Da (Life Goes On)" by the Beatles. However, I'm actually considering being one of those people who have her wake while I'm still alive, so that might be there. You know, pop out of a casket cake, scare the grandkids a bit. If there's going to be a party or catered food, I might as well be alive to enjoy it; my estate's paying for it anyway :D I liked what Data did when he thought Geordi was dead on ST:TNG; why be sad?
I want to be cremated. Figure I'll be spread over in England somewhere. Maybe off Land's End or somewhere scenic. Then again, I do have a flair for the dramatic and the 1812 Overture. So Viking Funeral with big boom boom a la V for Vendetta would satisfy the pyromania as well.
Juu: Best idea ever.

Well, if i wasn't being cremated, which it is my goal too...
Now, while Pantera's "Cemetary Gates' would be perfect for a funeral, I'd play sucks to my loved ones and have GG Allin's "Stick a Cross Up a Nun's C***" play instead.:p

AC/DC's highway to hell and probably Radio head's Karma Police or Malice Mizer's Gardenia. I have varied tastes in rock metal music and I'd rather be remembered by songs I actually enjoy rather than some stuffy funeral organ music or sad songs, that and some songs likely have a high appeal to me. I'd honestly like my funeral to be a great and happy celebration much like the chinese often have for their beloved lost.
I really pretty much have already compiled a list of songs to disc and on note pad that I will want played on the day with which I do die and have actually gone so far as to look at coffins online to get an idea of what I will want. Of course I am getting off the subject with this, my apologies and adieu.

I got back from my grandfather's funeral earlier today, and they played some song on the piano.....I believe it was an older song from the 40's or 50's.(He was a WWII Veteran), it sounded catchey.

On a totally non-sentimental laugh, I remember sitting in my high school art class when my buddy Shawn looked up at me and said:
"When I die, I want them to play 'Der Komizzar' (sp?) at my funeral." (You know, the "Don't turn around...uh-oh" song).
Not sure what did it, but I pictured the scene and heard the music and just burst out in laughter.
"Don't Look Back In Anger" by Oasis - what a beautiful song, and it works because it's about looking back on life with a new perspective.
