This is the talkback thread for Crazy Uncle Oscar's "Animation Collection" (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=21954).

This talkback is a few days late but hey... you know the old saying.

I'm seriously considering this, even though there are a few duplicate cartoons from my LT Golden Collections on the set. I don't have any Tom & Jerry DVDs and there are some LTs which aren't on a Golden Collection (yet), so I'd say there's more than enough new material for myself.

So, forgive me for not knowing them, but what the heck is "Peace on Earth" and "Goodwill To Men" that makes them so horrible? I've never even heard of them.

So, forgive me for not knowing them, but what the heck is "Peace on Earth" and "Goodwill To Men" that makes them so horrible? I've never even heard of them. Having seen both only recently, I actually liked them a lot more than Maxie did. They definitely stand out amidst the comedic shorts in this collection, as they were some of the few theatrical shorts from MGM to tackle serious subject matter (i.e. humanity eventually killing itself through endless wars), but I thought they were executed pretty well.

Of the two, I definitely prefer the 1939 version (squirrels telling the story of mankind) over the 1955 remake (mice), since it has better animation and tiny bits of comic relief to break things up.

Technically, they are well executed. But I found them screechy and preachy.

As a potential buyer, I have to ask, do we get any non-Droopy Avery classics here? I'm on the fence about buying it(not owning any of the previous Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, or Popeye volumes, thoguht this could be a nice start-up, but lost interest when Best Buy put the pre-set price up), and I adore the man and wish everyday that his MGM work will finally get a DVD release. If there's any here, consider me sold.

Ah, thank you. Good enough for my apporval. I'm gonna have to check out for a cheaper version of the 41-short collection.

Got the set today. It's great to finally have DVD versions of "Now Hear This" and "High Note", two of the better late Chuck Jones shorts. And I love how WB included a few new Music Only audio tracks. I love those.

Noooo ... The Talkback (specifically, the post you quoted) was started on 3/4, a few days after the review ran.
