You said you wanted it in the Annual Toon Zone Awards, so here you go.
Personally, I love this site. Eight out of ten time I'm on the internet, I'm on here. I love the community. There are so many great people to talk to, I couldn't even begin to state them all. I love reading as many great discussions and debates that come out as possible, even if I'm typically not a part of them.
I just love this site in general. If you want to say something positive about here, or anyone in particular, this is the place. I just hope this doesn't get locked.

Whenever I see the joined date on my info bar I'm surprised all over again about how long I've been here. It's truly been a fun ride and although I can't really say I'm a major part of any social scenes around here I enjoy my time here immensely and really enjoy interacting with members such as Speedy Boris, and those partners in crime blackstar and silverstar.
I'm glad things are so well moderated here so things never get out of control. I'm glad for the huge variety of topics in any given forum (though if I see one more "CN Sucks" thread I'm going to scream.) I'm glad for how organized and easy to navigate the site is. I love letting my hair down - so to speak - over at Cartoons Dammit! I love talking Rocko, Spongebob, Tom and Jerry, Ed, Edd and Eddy, Disney and all the other great cartoons I love so much.
Long live Toon Zone.

Hmm, well for starters, I really appreciate the moderators around these parts. So many of them happen to be great posters as well, and I've personally benefited from their views many times in the past. In particular, Karl Olson and William C. Maune have often set the bar for thoughtful commentary. I like to think I've learned from their example over the years, if only a bit. Aside from that, there are many more: Duke, Mynd, Zach, Mugen, The Falcon, Speedy Boris, Bird Boy, James Harvey, Jeff Harris...
In short, I've had a fun time posting and trading thoughts at TZ and all these guys and more have helped keep it fun over the years. So thanks guys, and keep up the good work.

There have been so many posts and threads over the years that have entertained and enlightened me, it's impossible to pinpoint or recall the many users who have collectively added to my interests and viewpoints.
I seem to either have been lucky enough or observant enough--or perhaps both--to have steered clear of most of the conflicts and drama that seem to permeate the TZ ranks. There has been no experience bad enough to stick in my mind or give me a reason to pack up and leave this charming community.
And if it weren't for certain people around here I wouldn't be the person I am today. Lord Dalek's posts on Doctor Who got me interested in watching the Sci-Fi run of the new series, and now I'm as hooked on that as I am on 24 and Lost. I took up Veronica Mars based solely on the opinions of several people here. I only watched Bo-Bobo as long as I did because talking about it in the Toonami threads was a blast. Even a thread about Superman III got me wanting to watch the movie again for the first time in over ten years...and it was fun!
I couldn't possibly stay as current on so many shows and movies if it weren't for the threads on the Entertainment and DVD forums.
James, KyleWayne, Frozen, and the rest of the gang over at the Drawing Board have been a pleasure to talk with and present art alongside. Every time I miss out or shy away from a drawing jam I feel like a loser because I want to help contribute to the CD! community.
And where would any of us be without SirLemming's silliness, or Bird Boy's sarcasm, or Alex Weitzman's brilliant reviews? I rarely visit the Café anymore, but for what it's worth the 2006 era had many lively (and rational) discussions amongst all the posters.
And April Fools Day...what memories. Last year got a little out of hand, so I'm a little worried what 2008 has in store, but hopefully we're all going to reign ourselves in a little bit and make it more fresh-witty-silly, not it's-gotten-old-already-and-it's-only-noon-silly.
I have a whole list of people who have said things that made me laugh out loud...actually laugh out loud in front of my computer...and people who have presented such a good case they made me think and reconsider my own opinions. I'd love to dig into my brain and name every single person, but it's impossible to recall. You probably know who you are, and even if you don't there's a good chance you're one of the people I'm thinking of.
Am I sucking up? Okay, maybe. But I do hold a lot of people on this forum in high regard. It's honestly a mystery to me why some people let things come to a boil over whatever. Yeah, some posters have annoyed me, some posters have angered me, and as shameful as it is for me to admit, I've carried one or two grudges over the years. But I try to bite my lip about personal problems because I never want to leave TZ, and I never want to have a reason.
I'll be another to praise the mods for their infinite patience. BB, Penguin, Zach, Jave, and the rest across the forums are doing a bang-up job keeping everyone's heads on their shoulders and knives off the tables. Their preventative measures and cool heads are a testament to the dream that is the gated community known as Toon Zone.
Finally, I've gotta give props to everybody around here for putting up with me. I'm not nearly as annoying on this board as I am to people in real life, but in threads like Lost and 24, I sometimes go a little nuts, and it's got to be said I'm surprised I haven't been tarred and feathered yet for my crazy opinions and obsessions. Perhaps it's due to the fact that everybody here has their own crazy opinions and obsessions.
Okay, that's just about everything. Goodnight, all, and God bless.

I can honestly say that Toon Zone is one of the very very few places that I go to everyday. I really enjoy it due to the wide range of topics. There's virtually something for everyone here, and I love that. I also like the fact that I can state my opinions without have other users jump down my throat and call me childish names just for liking something/someone they don't (yeah, I'm talking about you, IMDb boards!). The amount of respect everybody here shows for one another is amazing and unlike any other forum I've been a part of.
Yeah, I love it here. :)

Temple Fugate pretty much nailed it with how I think about Toon Zone as well. I really have not contributed much lately though but I try my hardest to catch with everyone and what's going on in the community.
I remember first joining this site, it was late at night I had been lurking for a few months and I thought why not, it will be fun to join a forum. Yes that is right, this is my first forum I have ever joined and I never want to leave it. My first post was on the disney board my second was down at the fun and games where Kury became my first friend. I was a little shy at first but once I got the hang of this place I fell in love with it.
And if I didn't come here I would probably not be up to date with anything and there are so many fun people here that I got to know more as well. Some of those people have disappeared though and I have wondered what happened to them from time to time when digging through the archives I just hope they make an appearance again someday.
So yeah I hope to stay here for as long as I can.

Toon Zone is actually one of the very few safe places for me to be part of on the Internet. I was always told how bad it could be to be part of an internet community because of all the sexual online predator crap going on. I've been on here for almost exactly a year, and the main reason that I joined was mostly because I wanted to reply to a fanfic to see if the story was gonna be finished, and it just grew from there. I've only been hanging mostly around the Cafe, Teen Titans and Story Board fanfic forums, and the Code Lyoko Fan Club for most of the time, and I hope to explore a little more to meet more people.:) I even started my very first fanfic on Toon Zone, and I still enjoy writing it, no matter how many feedback I may get from it.
I better go now....have a very bad case of the flu...:ack:
I've been on Toon Zone for many years now, and I've never had any complaints. The boards are extremely well-moderated (not perfectly, of course, but extremely well), the members are all friendly, the discussions are some of the most intelligent you can find on a message board, and if you want to learn the latest news in the toon world, you can rest assured someone will bring it up on Toon Zone. I love this place.
Even though I don't agree with some rules here, I still like Toon Zone. No other website gets the up-to-the-minute coverage of the animation world like it. Props to the reporters, admins, and forum moderators.

I love Toon Zone! With all the up-to-date information, it's like the CNN of animation, so to speak! Whenever I'm on the Internet, the first and last place I come is here!
I mostly appreciate how I can post my opinions here without being picked on. Besides, I'm still learning; and I'm trying to express myself fully as a cartoon/animation fan. Here, I never get picked on for that, because the entire community is so nice and friendly...
Kudos to ALL the members, mods, and admins!
Yeah...I hope to stay at TZ for a long, long time. ;) :D

I appreciate all the hard work Maxie Zeus currently does for the news team. In February he reported over 175 stories, which is just amazing. And he edits the majority of reviews and opinion pieces, giving good feedback on how to make them better. As I've said before, my hat's off to you. :)

This is probably the right place to ask, but has anyone ever taken usage of the Buddy List feature and add someone to it? And if so, what does it do, exactly?

This has got to be one of like 2 or 3 websites I visit daily, and this was the first forum I ever joined, and since then it has been pretty awesome and entertaining even though I havn't met any of you in person. I just hope it can keep on going as a successful and friendly community!

Bar none, this is one of the best darn sites I've ever found myself a member of. Be it discussions with fellow film geek Hanshotfirst113, learning about which Abridged Series to watch and which to avoid, or watching the occasional soap opera that plays out between our many members, it's a blast, pure and simple. I hope to stay here for many more years to come, and always feel welcome.

Right, I realise what I'm about to do might be a bit too specific for this thread. So let me first say- in general, I respect and appreciate the thoughts of everyone here. The people I'm about to call out are just specific individuals I'd like to give a nod of respect too. Besides, if not being listed bothers you just remember who made this list and it'll soon be small potatoes ;)
GWOtaku- A great friend who has gone far and beyond. He's an individual that I hold great respect for, keeping a cool head and both contributing to and starting relavent, well thought out discussions. He's also someone I've been able to get well founded advice from when I need it.
XOMiss Samantha- My friendship with this young lady still suprises me somewhat. When she first started posting, I discounted her as an annoying rabid fangirl (probably not helped by the fact I'd been recently hounded by a similar individual). However, by some weird mix of circumstances I ended up talking to her on AIM and found out how wrong I was. She's actually a very intelligent and caring person and these past few years has been of immense support.
Beat- Irony of ironies, my earliest memory of Beat is clashing over his alternate ending for G Gundam. It seems for me I follow the style of the shonen manga heroes and make friends from former rivals. Behind the roundhouse kicks and Hinata death threats, he's a very charming guy and a talented writer.
Juu-kuchi- Another individual I'd say doesn't really get the respect he deserves, which is a great shame as he has alot of good ideas and gives them his all. Plus he speaks a wealth of languages, which clearly shows his intelligence. I know alot of other folks around here also respect him, so hopefully he'll soon achieve the respect he deserves.
Keiichi- The hot blooded defender of gattai configurations, our very own Kamen Rider! About the only guy who understands my tales of collecting woe and all round 'NICEU GAI!"
Funkatron- I think his user name sums him up very well. He's witty and insightful and oh so very cool.
James- A gentleman who has in recent times been very helpful and supportive, especially of my concerns upon preparing to enter the world of design employment. He's also a very skilled debater, having brought man excellent points to the Doctor Who talkbacks and others.
Kaiser- Man, what a whirlwind year for this guy, becoming a big net celebrity. Yet he's stayed humble and cool and has even given me useful critique. Not bad for a dirty furry... :p
The various faces in the Gundam 00 talkback and related threads- All very cool people who keep me coming back here to debate my own particular narcotic. I always know I can count on you for mature discussion and the ocassional moment of humour ;)
TZ News Staff- The people who keep the main TZ site stocked up with open minded reviews, up to the minute accurate news and exclusive interviews. You all put in many hard hours to keep on top of things and your flawless work ethic is something to aspire to.
Hopefully I haven't forgotten anyone

You're soo right about it being moderated well, which is really good, although I have never seen a moderator, maybe I just haven't been observing.
And I love how things are really up to date as well, like I can find the latest information, although (it also means I have to be more up to date with shows in general to keep up LOL)

Hey, this is back? Well, I'm game.
As the days go by, I notice that the site and I have our disagreements, mostly with moderation and some members I may disagree with. All that said, I still think this is the second best site to talk cartoons on, and I'm still planning on stay here until the Animation Revelation destroys you all.
So, how do ya all like me?:anime:

Oh why not. Figure I might as well share some props for 2008. This isn't a complete list but it's who I came up with for now.
While we may share our differences on a few subjects, I have to commend GWOtaku for his well-written, thoughtful posts. You're definitely one of my most respected members here.
Lord Dalek and Juu-Kuchi, too, for being good guys to chat with outside of Toon Zone, even though I haven't been on Skype nearly as much as I should've been lately...
Mugen, for starting all those dang talkback threads. I eventually lost interest in making a new King of the Hill thread each week so it's nice to have someone picking up the slack.
Ed Liu for his mad reporting skills. I am not worthy. But seriously, you rock at keeping the news page fresh with new stuff.
Blackstar, Silverstar, and DarthGonzo, for bringing a dose of reality to the forums when it's sorely needed. Also interesting to hear their opinions on various subjects.
Desensitized, whose posts always seem to get my attention. And I mean that in a good way! Nice to have you here.
As for new members, I've been impressed with ensatsu-ken. He seems very level-headed and thoughtful when it comes to addressing other opinions and I always appreciate that. A little tact never hurts.

I am truly thankful for having found Toon Zone (actually, I've visited the site a couple of times in the past, but didn't join on to the forums until last year). Toon Zone is only forum besides The Big Cartoon Database that I look forward to visiting almost every day, because I know that there will be something interesting to read or to talk about. And I'm also thankful to the members here, who somehow managed to learn how to put up with an opinionated loudmouth like myself. :D
Thanks go out the the moderators here, espeically Speedy Boris, who's always upbeat and never unfriendly, James Harvey, who made me feel welcome from day 1, and also Jave (he knows why ;)).
I enjoy coming here to state my own opinions and insights about things, and also just to hear from some of the colorful personalities that inhabit Toon Zone, Martianinvader, Jeff Harris, Ed Liu, tb4000, peterG, The Tednut!, Cheddar, Light Lucario and mine and Silverstar's long lost spiritual brother, DarthGonzo.
Thanks to all who make Toon Zone a fun place to be. No sarcasm there.
Silverstar
12-12-2008, 12:03 PM
Wow, I'm posting right after Blackstar. That's never happened before.
Anywho, I'm greatly appreciative of ToonZone. Coming here when I can has been one of my greatest pleasures this past year. The only other forum I'm active on is The Big Cartoon Database, which is still a great place, but lately the threads there aren't as interesting and the members there aren't as interested, so it's good to know there's still a lively haven where I can come and discuss my favorite subject of all: cartoons.
There are a lot of people I'd like to give props (aoplogies in advance to anybody I inadvertently leave out):
First and foremost, James Harvey, who's extended the welcome mat from my first day here, and has been an invaluable ally ever since.
Speedy Boris and Ed Liu, among the coolest mods on the internet. Smart, funny, fair, insightful, never rude, never mean, never abuse the badge. Class acts all the way.
Mynd Hed, Jave and Toddman, for laying down the law, keeping the peace and keeping me in check whenever I start to act like a petulant child. I know I'm not the easiest person to deal with, so I commend these guys for doing what they do, even if I don't act like it.
Light Lucario, one of the nicest people you'll ever run into in cyberpsace. Not only smart and with a good head on her shoulder, but she'll never flame you, ever. I don't see how she does it, and I can't help but admire that.
Cheddar, The Tednut!, tb4000, peterg14, Martianinvader, great guys whose posts and insights I look forward to reading whenever I'm on.
James, Jeff Harris, John Dorian, insightful posters and top-notch over-thinkers whose posts I'm consistently envious of. These guys can crytsalize a point better than most people I know. I haven't seen too much of these guys lately, but I hope to hear from them soon.
Darklordaviator, for always lurking in the shadows and popping in at the right moment with something interesting to say.
Mugen and D Dubbs, for bringing the facts and making the talkbacks.
DarthGonzo, just a great, intelligent guy. No nonsense, no crap, but always fun and friendly. A poster in a class all by himself.
Kudos to all here at ToonZone. Thanks for putting up with me.

I don't really want to specifically point anyone out as the post would go on too long, but if you're a poster who always has something interesting to say or add (sometimes just to quip) or is just a walking database of info (Jeebus, some of you guys), then I'm probably a fan of your posts.

Seconded. Toon Zone is a wonderful forum.
This place is packed with so many respectful members (The list runs long...too long...) The debates on issues are interesting to read, the topics vary to a lot of tastes like Mike mentioned and jokes between members are on a friendly level where as on other boards, it's all replying with internet memes to the point where it's obnoxious.

Darklordaviator, for always lurking in the shadows and popping in at the right moment with something interesting to say.
Kind of creepy, but I guess you're right. I am sort of random, aren't I?

Except tell a few certain people how I feel about them. Or keep a serious relationship. Or write my next review.
I'd like to say what I was appreciative of this past year on the site, but I think everything else has been covered. Toon Zone as a whole is one of the greatest things on the internet, and I'm glad I found a good place to waste my life for the past year-and-a-half.

James Harvey: The reason 'm here, thanks to World's Finest

The Cartoon: As the people here know, we get along great. Yes, thanks to Nessie and Bigfoot.;) Seriously though, he's a really great guy.
Harley: The creator of this site, and she does one heck of a job of maintaining it.
AlgeaX: We had our differences, but we get along well now.

So many others, I'll update. Seriously though, these are just the ones that jump to mind, I like everyone.

Thought it might be nice to give a shout out to members we miss. Either folks that chose to leave or just flat out vanished.
(This is NOT an open invitation for axe grinding or trotting out of past members that some have turned into memes. Thank you).
Azelma- Used to post here in the early part of the decade before moving on. She seemed to really be going places (including some political/environmental protesting). I hope she got somewhere with her writing ambitions.
Duke- Hasn't been seen for the last few months but was always a nice and friendly guy. When last we spoke he was swamped with work so I imagine that's still the case. Hopefully he comes back some day. A real nice guy who watched my back :)
Neo-Era- A cool, funny guy and something of a personal mentor. He didn't post here much but he seems to have gone quiet in general since closing Gunota Headlines and finishing his studies. Hopefully we haven't seen the last of him, his rare insight is appreciated.
William C. Maune- Vanished when he was starting up married life with his wife. His career also sounded quite demanding. He was always an excellent example of authourity; people did what he said because they respected him :)

I like you guys oh so much.
At the very least, Toon Zone has become my new home ever since the Fungi Forums became a gigantic pile of boring and self-worship and every other board I joined degenerated into garbage. Here, it never feels like anyone can get away with stupid crap because they are friends with the staff or whatever and with the exception of a couple boards, hiveminds do not run the place.

Y'know, while Matt Wilson could be rude (and indeed, I got annoyed with him at times), I do kind of miss the sense of reason he brought to topics where they were sorely needed. He was also quite knowledgeable about cartoons. And he created quite a few TZ memes that are still used to this day by some (brb lunch, anyone?).

Highly agreed, he was my Ben Kenobi and his departure now a full year (or two?) ago has left me quite disheartened. Always called the man 'Chief', too.

And while his criticism of certain shows might have been brutal and scathing, it was always honest and apt (containing none of the snarkiness that plagues so many other animation reviewers and critics)
Toon Zone is also the only major animation site that's not beholden to any specific bias, especially not for John K. and Spumco.

I'll agree 100% with that. Some of his opinions have proven remarkably prescient, and while he often made criticisms that I felt were too harsh I also appreciate his high standards.
I badly miss William C. Maune. He is/was a great mod and a consistent voice of reason. In fact, and this is completely honest, his example motivated me to improve my posting style & writing around here way back when. If I were asked to point out one TZ person to emulate, it's him. Nuff said.
Duke was a guy who posted good things all the time and now doesn't seem to be around. Other excellent oldies that are currently absent include Sampo, Artimus Gigan, and Riza Hawkeye (she was here in August, though). And that shouldn't be taken as anything close to a comprehensive list of apparently absent TZ vets that I enjoyed reading from 2003 - 2008, because it's most definitely not.

YES.
Sadly, reason is lost on the young, and the young know how to report posts.
