Special Effects Question

I was wondering if anyone on this forum might have any idea of how to produce the removal of an appendage for film. I need to know how to do this on a low budget. If not, can anyone direct me to someone or some website that would know?

more like body part removal, like a finger or thumb.

a. create a two-sided rubber plastic mold.

b. skulp a appendage out of a wood/foam block, potato or large carrot, etc. then paint it.

honestly, i have no expertise on the matter, but it's not hard to figure out.

Thanx En Sabah, but Im trying to do it in a fashion where we actually see the body being cut off. Interesting suggestion though.
