I read in TV Shows On DVD that WB has acquired the rights to the KFS toons and plans to release them in the future. Sounds interesting. It would be great to compare those with the older Fleischer-Famous ones.

I'm assuming you're referring to the made-for-TV shorts from the 60's?
If so, then WB would have had to license those from Hearst Entertainment (King Features' TV distribution arm). If this is the case, perhaps we can also see The All-New Popeye Show from 1979, and perhaps even Popeye and Son from 1987 (both of which are also controlled by Hearst).
FYI: When BCI released Filmation's Flash Gordon series, they had to talk to Hearst Entertainment about it; that show isn't in Entertainment Rights' library. BCI also released Defenders of the Earth, which was made by Marvel Productions, but is also controlled by Hearst.

WHV had to license all of the Popeye series from Hearst as a part of the deal to get the rights to release the theatricals.

But don't expect 1978-1983 Hanna-Barbera Popeye to be rerun on CN or Boomerang soon!

I'm referring to the '60s toons.

I believe that WB plans on releasing every Popeye cartoon ever made in chronological order. I believe they are probably going to release the KFS TV shorts after they finish releasing the theatrical ones. Although it may take longer now that Warner is apparently releasing all their cartoons except for the Looney Tunes Golden Collection in two disc sets.

In addition to the chronological sets aimed at collector's, WB going to start releasing 2-disc sets of Popeye cartoons aimed at kids & families sometime this year culled from the color Famous theatrical shorts, the made-for-TV KFS Popeyes and the Hanna-Barbera Popeye TV shows (Popeye & Son, etc).

didn't they release the King Popeyes a few year back?

Yeah, it was about 75 cartoons, restored (sort of). In my opinion, restoration wouldn't matter for those toons. I think many of the 60's Popeye cartoons are awful. There are some exceptions ("Barbeque for Two"), but not many.

The first *family* release is going to be from The All New Popeye Hour:

Wether we'll get the original openings/closings is the selling point on this release for me.
I just wonder if we'll get a full release if WB's going in chronilogical order with the collectible releases.

That would have to include:
Jack Kinney/Herb Klynn Format (subcontract)
Paramount Animation
Gene Deitch (most subcontracted to Halas/Batcheldor)
TV Spots/Creston Studios Under Gerry Ray
Larry Harmon
That's a lot to keep-a track of.Arf! Arf!
