Volume 2 has been reduced to a 2-disc release w/ 31 shorts (30 B&W, 1 color). The John K. commentary/interview seems to have been scrapped as well. WHV claims the original episode count would not have been ready in time for the release date. Oh well, I'm still working through Volume 1. I should be done by the time Vol 2 streets. I'm hoping they continue the tin casings.

Guess that means they will finish up the Fleischer Cartoons before releasing the Famous Studios ones.

...What does a Spongebob AMV have to do with ANYTHING related to Popeye?

He probably linked to the wrong thing on accident. That video is hilarious, though. The song from the start of the aqua teen movie + random spongebob concert=awesome.

That's what I'm hoping as well. I like Popeye, but I don't like him in excess of fifty dollars.
By the by, is that first set any good? You never know if the first outings of a series are any good or if the creators of the toons haven't hit their stride yet.

The stride of the Fleischer Popeyes is met pretty early on in the first set. It shouldn't be too hard to find the set under $50. It's price is very similar to that of the Looney Tunes Golden Collections. The presentation of the set is on par with those Golden Collections as well.
Most tend to agree that the quality dips a bit around 1940 due to the production staff moving from New York to Miami and losing some of the talented artists in the process. It picks up around the war-time cartoons of 1942 and the early "Famous Studios" cartoons shortly afterward later.

if you're a serious animation buff than the answer is a profund YES.
As a child of syndication, my exposure to Popeye was exclusively the late, color shorts. I was unaware of the o.g. B&W shorts until CN began broadcasting them.
I recommend watching them in spurts as too much of the same thing can get stale through one sitting. I play "PopeyeMeets Sinbad the Sailor" about once a month. I just love Bluto's braggart theme song!

The 2-Disc format sounds all right, but that means that we won't be seeing the Famous cartoons for quite a while…
Well, we still have the Fleischer cartoons, but the set doesn't even end at the last cartoon of the Fleischer era! Still, 31 Popeye's are better then none :D
Definitely a yes. My personal preference for Popeye's peak is the war cartoons and very early Famous which will probably be spread across the next two sets. These are the bread and butter of Popeye - though I must admit that my first exposure to the character was the KFS and Hanna Barbera shorts in reruns. It wasn't until much later on CN that I discovered the bulk of Fliescher and Famous. Either way, I would agree with not watching it all in one sitting, but as it continues you do see them get better and better over time.
