Now, there's a good trade-off. Voltron replaces Cow & Chicken. Now, if they can just get Star Blazers to replace Johnny Bravo, we can officially expand Boomeraction to include the anime.:D

Mind you, I'm not the biggest fan of Cow & Chicken, but still, come on, guys. I get that some of us want classic anime on Boomerang, but why does it have to be at the expense of the Cartoon-Cartoons? Why are the Cartoon-Cartoons getting no love on the Boom? CN clearly has no plans to continue airing them, and for some reason TWT won't release these shows on DVD. What's wrong with Boomerang airing early Cartoon-Cartoons? Would you rather they just sit in the Time Warner vaults collecting dust?

Hmm...I have to say I'm not sure how I feel about Boomerang airing an anime series, classic or not. It starts with one, then another, then suddenly we have an entire block of anime shows on the Boom. It seems to much like opening Pandora's Box.

Boomerang could start running Megas XLR, but noooooo...

Mind you, Voltron is at least old enough to be considered classic. Is Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets/G-Force next?

Well, Boom did air classic Pokemon for a while, and that didn't seem to do any real harm. Or maybe that was just testing ground. (Dun dun dun....)

Boomerang could start running Megas XLR, but noooooo...

We can dream, bro, we can dream...

TWT doesn't own the acquisition rights for Gatchaman/G-Force anymore. I think it was a temporary acquisition deal, and G-Force's less-than-stellar reatings on CN basically ensure that TWT wouldn't be all to willing to try and snag it again.

I don't know why people are so opposed to classic anime on Boomerang. The network always billed itself as an outlet for classic and retro animation, so as long as it fits the bill, I say bring it on.

If anything, it fits the network better than the Cartoon Cartoons.

What I don't get is why so many people feel it must be one at the exclusion of the other. Why not both? Surely there's room for both classic anime and Cartoon-Cartoons on Boomerang.

I understand that a lot of people feel that the Cartoon-Cartoons are "too recent" to air on Boomerang, but really, where else can they go? CN has clearly washed their hands of them (except for Courage), and we're not getting DVDs of them, so why not air them on Boomerang? As long as the older classics don't get pushed off the channel in favor of them, I don't see the harm. JMPO, though.

In a perfect world, there'd be Cartoon-Cartoons running on CN instead of live-action shows and movies, but as we all know, it's not a perfect world.

I think the reason why some people don't want the Cartoon-Cartoon shows on Boomerang is because they could still run on CN. Courage has proven that a show older than five years and with no new episodes running can still bring in the ratings. CN brought back Scooby-Doo last year with that marathon and now its a regular staple of the network again. I think if CN did that with their older shows, we might see some more back on the network again. I mean, the Cartoon-Cartoon Show still airs episodes from shows that are Boomerang exclusive at the moment(Dexter, Johnny Bravo).

As for Voltron, that's good to hear. At least it'll be in a timeslot where people can watch it, unlike the 5 AM showings Adult Swim had it in. Maybe Gigantor and Astro Boy(when Adult Swim is done with it) will come next.

Remember what Jeff Harris has said about Time Warner. It is, and I quote, "the MOST POORLY RAN ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY ON THE PLANET." While Cow and Chicken may get the shaft, we still have Justice League, The Batman, Baby Looney Tunes, and the 2005 Gerald McBoing-Boing series on the net, all more recent than the Cartoon Cartoons on Boomerang.

As for Voltron, good for it. We now have 3 1/2 solid hours of action every weeknight. How awesome is that?

I'd like to see Gigantor and AstroBoy on Boomerang, too. After all, they were just as much part of our TV childhood as Bugs Bunny, Casper, and all the Hanna-Barbera cartoons.

Astroboy will probably get there in due time but it seems AS lost the rights to Gigantor so it probably isn't an option anymore.

Honestly... I think it's time to bring DBZ over. Run the whole dang thing in a consistant late night slot. Let's have CN trade The Batman for DBZ. Then have DBZ, Voltron, Thundercats (which Turner owns) and The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest (which as Jeff Harris mentioned recently... hasn't been seen since it left Toonami) and BAM, Boomeraction is a make-shift Retro Toonami.

Silverstar, what you need to understand is that adding more recent Cartoon Network originals: THAT is opening a Pandora's Box, if anything. For some time now, I have suspected that TOON, at some point, may or may not have had plans to reposition Boomerang as a more "Nicktoons Network" like entity, whereby it would be a gradual transition in which the classic H-B catalog gets phased out in favor of focusing more on TOON originals...

...and they would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for us meddling viewers (not to mention us meddling animation historians, enthusiasts and of course fans).

Indeed, various rumors had suggested either "Cartoon Network Too" (there is an actual channel by this name in Europe), or the "Cartoon Cartoon Network".

Anywho, many of these original shows can actually be seen on Cartoon Network Video. Now, while that is only available to the U.S., I reckon other countries like Canada have other ways of seeing them, like Teletoon, or something like that.

Going back on topic, 10:30 PM is pretty late, plus, I really want to wait for Media Blasters to release the original GoLion on DVD. After all, "GoLion" is the story of what "really" happened. Remember that Voltron was the result of WEP combining two completely unrelated shows (the "Galaxy Alliance" bit actually comes from Dairugger XV, the other show they used). Furthermore, WEP actually "cheated" at certain points. That crossover movie with the two Voltrons never existed in Japan, nor did "The New Adventures of Voltron". In fact, Toei (the original creators of the two shows in question) had nothing to do with it. WEP hired a Korean studio to emulate Toei's techniques. And don't get me started on Voltron 3D (sorry to start with a conjunction, but that was the only way I could express this).

Anyway, I might watch this once GoLion comes out so I can "compare" the two.

FYI: I understand Boomerang did air "Battle of the Planets" once.

One question: What's "TWT"? What does it stand for? My understanding is that "Battle of the Planets" is distributed by Sandy Frank Productions while "G-Force" was distributed by King Features Entertainment (now Hearst Entertainment).

TWT stands for Time Warner/Turner.

TWT stands for Turner/Time Warner. It just takes less time to type.

If Time Warner made more of a regular effort to acquire more outside properties for Boomerang, a lot of oldschool anime released in the US during the '90s could fit the bill for "classic".;)

"Battle of the Planets" has been owned, (mostly) produced and distributed by Sandy Frank Entertainment from the very beginning. "G-Force: Guardians of Space" was a co-production between Sandy Frank and Turner Broadcasting, in which Turner Broadcasting did all of the dubbing and producing by themselves with no input from Frank whatsoever. In other words, it was oursourced to Turner entirely. Turner and others like King Features Syndicate/Hearst (which distributed "G-Force" in some markets like here in the U.S) once had a stake in the show, but the finished product always was owned by Sandy Frank. In 2003, all third-party rights to "G-Force" (including those of Turner's and Hearst's) reverted back to Sandy Frank Entertainment which now owns "G-Force" lock, stock and barrel along with "Battle of the Planets".

Regardless, back in 2007 Sandy Frank's long term contract with Tatsunoko (owners of the "Gatchaman" franchise) for complete domestic rights of the first Gatch series (along with all spin-offs and dubs) elapsed, and now both BotP and "G-Force" are officially in limbo, with their future fates unknown for the time being...........at least BotP's fans got a series boxset.

My "G-Force" wiki will answer a lot of the confusion between BotP & G-Force and any other possible curiousity about "G-Force" as well :) :

.............Oh c'mon, you know I'm on a Gatchaman-related discussion like white on rice!

Lion.

I don't even think they have the rights to Vehicle anymore.

I'd rather it replaced The Batman than C&C. I don't think many people want The Batman on Boom anyway.

Actually, WEP still has the rights. Otherwise Media Blasters wouldn't be planning to release that on DVD as well.

Vehicle Team Voltron wasn't even really a Voltron show, not entirely. The U.S. distributors combined that series with an unrelated anime series, Dairugger XV, to fill out the running time.

Vehicle Team Voltron is Dairugger XV; it was combined with Go Lion King of Beasts (Lion Force Voltron) to fill up the then required number of episodes.

I do hope Boomerang shows the Vehicle Team as well as the Lion Force.

Otherwise, they would've shown it on AS after they finished Lion.

I want the batman on boomerang! I've seen voltron and I think it's a very annoying cartoon. I think they should have replaced it with Johnny bravo!
The batman helps me go to sleep at night because I like action right before I go to bed. But,Voltron is annoying.

Voltron didn't replace The Batman. It's still on Boomerang. Johnny Bravo is still on Boom also.

Also, Johnny Bravo was already on the Boom before it started airing Voltron. There's no way that JB could have replaced Voltron, especially since JB isn't part of Boomeraction.
