It wasn't great, but it was a little funny. And even though Flash hinders the animation, it still tries to be wacky.

I was confused by that too.
But in the original cartoon, the song lyrics was "Fella and Ursula stayed in step." Not "Maggie and Ursula".

Eh, I really was expecting something more...It just wasn't...Good.
I really did try to give it a chance, but it didn't get any laughs from me.

I liked it. It wasn't anything great, but it wasn't too bad either. It had a lively, colorful feel to it, like Chowder does. Though George and Ursula are kind of annoying. But I did like most of the jungle animals.
As for the episodes themselves, the first was "meh," but I thought the second one was pretty funny. Gotta love the Christmas goats. :D

I don't believe this is a CN originial production. It's a co-production between Studio B Productions and Teletoon.
There was humor - but it was just viciously generic in every single way. The flash animation actually hindered it even further.
There's virtually no personality in it either - you can tell the guy who made this was influenced more by cash then he was actually re-creating George.

Ok, I want to add something to my last post:
I actually liked the animation. It seemed pretty...loose, for lack of a better word.

Clearly they're not following the Jay Ward series to the letter. In this series, Ursula has been remade as a civilized girl from the city who has moved to the jungle with her doctor father, while the jungle girl of this show, Magnolia, is a completely separate (and apparently original) character.

I hate remakes of old memorable cartoons. And this remake right here I hated. They want this to appeal to kids. My ass. Somewhere in Heaven, Jay Ward is saying "Why? Just....Why?"
2 out of 5.

When I saw the ads for this, I was intrigued.
When I saw the show, I was appalled.
This is what CN is buying these days?
Note to Programming Department: Stop buying crap like this and save your money. Go buy the broadcast rights to the original George of the Jungle. Watch all of the episodes so you can see an example of a good show.

I can just see this happen in the future
"And to launch our new hit show George of the Jungle, we are gonna show the live action movies back to back!"

Things I didn't like:
-That smooth, stylized Flash-style animation that I don't like in general (but can get over if needed to)
-Generic, unfunny humour and story.
-The voices
-The original George of the Jungle and its movies, so a remake had pretty much no chance unless it really improved on the original, which this one didn't.
Things I did like:
-It ended

I try to give every new show an even break, even a remake of an old series, but I sat through the whole half hour of this and didn't laugh once. Not a good sign.

The writing wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it didn't actually make me laugh. I hated the voices and the new designs are ugly (why did they make look like George such a wimp?). It didn't capture the spirit or humor of the original or even the movie (which I actually really liked). It felt like a generic jungle guy show that ripped off some character concepts instead of a remake. And that narrator voice hurts my ears. :ack:

I liked it too. It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that good either. I did like the animation because of how it felt lively and kind of unique. The jungle animals were pretty nice. I didn't really mind George and Ursula that much, but I can see why they would be annoying to others.
As for the episodes themselves, the first was "meh," but I thought the second one was pretty funny. Gotta love the Christmas goats. :D
Same here. The first one was kind of bland, but the second one had better humor. I liked how George wanted to celebrate Christmas everyday and did so for a whole year. You would think that they would be tired of it within a couple of months, not a year later. I felt bad when George was walking alone and crying. No matter what, whenever I see any cartoon character cry, I always feel so sad for them. Anyway, I thought that their twist on A Christmas Carol was kind of unique, especially how they had the goat of Christmas Present before the goat of Christmas Past. Overall, I thought that the special was kind of cute and nice.
I'm not sure that this will be a bad show. I would give it more time and more episodes before writing it off as a failure. I barely remember any of the original George of the Jungle, but this doesn't look that bad of a show from this special.

It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. It was in-the-middle. It had a couple of amusing moments, but other than that it was a bit bland. But I definitely would've have kicked off a new series with a Christmas special. This just points towards disaster.

Completly Mediocre.
The animals now talk, the first christmas thing wasn't planned out and the 3 goats just proved that too much christmas was a bad thing. Just like the rest of the episode.

It wasn't terrible, wasn't good either. BTW the animals talked in the original, at least the ape talked in the orignal, I am not sure about the others animals.
The plot is very much like the Fairly Odd Parents Christmas episode. Starting a series with a Christmas doesn't spell disator, because the Simpsons premered with a Christmas special.
It is not as good as the original. But to tell the truth, the original cartoon was not as good as Super Chicken, that was the best cartoon of the old George Of The Jungle show.

Oh yes. Every character appearing, wished happening, crocker's horrible plot with a near failure rate.
Regular Episode None-the-less. Above Comment.

I can't judge this show on this episode, because I hate Christmas specials and find them to have different tones from the rest of the series (especially one that takes place in a jungle)
When they air some normal episodes, then I can accurately judge it.

Speaking of which, the official series premiere is set for January 18th at 7:30 PM, so it looks like the show will most likely be Chowder's midseason replacement...

I already explained earlier: it's not a CN original production.

I'd say calling it crap after just one Christmas special is a little harsh.
The general consensus here seems to be "It's alright, but it's really nothing special."

Yeah, that's how I felt about this new George of the Jungle. Not great, not crap.
I saw the CN.com page (thank God it hasn't infested the UK yet) and promptly thought, This isn't the George of the Jungle I grew up with!
The crap kids are raised on these days...

Alright I've seen this and I have to say Jay Ward and Bill Scott are definitely spinning in their graves..and frankly for a Christmas Episode? This one was more like giving Coal in the stockings of your best friend.. or more like giving someone a bunch of McDonald's Gift Certificates for Christmas...
Now even though I loved the original show, This one really lacks the ideas of the original George.. and I think that thanks to Disney we've "Devolved" George and Ursula to their base components..and believe me, if this is the case.. I'll give it 3 tries when it airs.. and if it doesn't swing? Well I'll be sure to plant a forest full of Fast Growing Trees. and by fast I mean The stuff pops up in 3 seconds.. so George can slam into everyone!
Believe me I give this one show a really low mark. a 2. and I blame it on the fact that it's a Christmas episode. After all why have a Jungleman deal with Christmas? It's like Having Penelope Pitstop deal with Supercuts..
Like I said, "AHH AHH EEE EEE TOOKIE TOOKIE!!!"
Translation?
This one is gonna die fast Trust me..
Nuff Said..

Well it doesn't appear George and Ursula are couple just yet. In the first episode, George really wanted to give Ursula the Christmas she wanted, so there is a hint of something there of Ursula having a special place in George's heart.
I am probably giving them too much credit, but I would think they would tease something in the future. They better show some George and Ursula shipping moments in the Valentine's Day episode (assuming they have one). I at least want them to show jealous, if they other one is dating someone else.

George/Ursula shippiness? Hmm. Maybe I'm wrong, but from I saw, it looked like Ursula was a kid on this show (she didn't seem any older than 13-15 here) and it looked like George and Magnolia were an item. But of course, I could be mistaken.

To me, that looked like more for a brother / sister relationship, but like yourself I could be wrong. But if that is the case, that is just spitting in the face of Jay Ward.

I don't know yet, they seemed like a couple because a brother and sister would be illogical without any parental supervision.

The main nitpicks that I have concerning the new George of the Jungle series are as follows:
1) The character designs. Why is George so skinny and wimpy looking? I remember him being more buff in Jay Ward's version.
2) I'm not a huge fan of flash animation, but then the original series didn't have great animation either, so I'm willing to let that one slide.
3) Ape didn't seem all that sophisticated in this version. Sure, he could still talk, but he didn't seem as cultured and refined as he was in the original series.
4) Both Ursula and Magnolia appear to only have fathers and no mothers, which doesn't sit too well with me. Kind of smacks of anti-female tokenism (or anit-mom tokenism at the very least). I could see the creators doing the single parent thing for 1 of the girls, but not for both of them. But it's only been 1 special/pilot episode so far. It's far too early to be making assumptions. At least 1 of the girls' mothers may turn up in a future episode.
5) This is the most important: I didn't find the show to be that funny. However, as previously stated, I've only seen the pilot episode, which doubled as the shows' Christmas episode. I'll try to wait until after I've seen some more eps before passing judgment on the shows' humor (or the lack of it).
