O_o I just noticed this a few days ago, Cartoonnetwork is still using the third opening and its wayyy past the exams. Do they hate GO now or something >_>?

I noticed that! I wonder what happened since it's way past a forgetful mistake now. O_o

Shouldn't this be on the Toonami board instead of the CN board?

Well, the Naruto reruns being discussed air on regular Cartoon Network. Toonami only airs new episodes.

Anyway...yeah this is odd. I wonder if Viz lost the rights to the opening...or something?

More likely, unlike the Toonami and Adult Swim blocks, the OP and actual episode are on separate tapes (recalling the "Ruroni Hamtaro" incident).

In this age of digital technology. Shouldn't the opening be a part of the tape itself?

Just more of CN's incompetence, is all.

I wonder why they used the 3rd opening. I thought the the openings were part of the episode, and I never thought something like this could happen.

I forgot. What was this incident about? I'm guessing "Freckles" accidently was on the Hamtaro tape?

Well... it could be worse. They could still be using Rise (which fits their time constraints better). But I haven't been watching the reruns lately so I didn't know they were doing that. Being "japanese" shouldn't be the problem given the 3rd opening was Haruka Kanata and IIRC didn't even have subtitles. But man... I'm going to get tired of Haruka Kanata if they use it for all reruns beyond season 2.

When does the rating appear? During the opening or after the opening?

On Toonami, Naruto's rating appears as soon as the opening song begins rolling.

Yeah, I noticed this too, I was wondering if anyone was going to mention it or not:p It's kind of annoying, but I don't really care, as long as the DVD's get the original openings/closings!;)

**On an off topic question:

Is there a Naruto's New Year's Eve Marathon this year does anybody know?

I don't think so. I think that D Dubbs confirmed that CN won't have a Naruto New Year's Eve Marathon this year. Maybe they're burned out from Naruto marathons, espeically after Hundo.

Then I guess the episode is on a seperate tape from the opening, which is odd, since when the episodes play for the first time on Toonami, the rating appears on the opening, indicating that the opening and the episode is on the same tape. So, basically, someone must have gone through the trouble of removing the opening from the tape of the episodes. Maybe it's because they plan on doing that annoying "play opening during credits of previous show" thing.

Because the opening is cool. Out of all the openings they've played on Cartoon Network, opening 4 is probably the best.

That's a bummer, it doesn't look like they're going for ratings this year at all, because all they have is their usual day showing of Lazlo etc. plus a few lackluster movies.

It is a shame that CN doesn't seem to have any kind of special countdown on New Year's Eve. It could be that they didn't go for another Naruto marathon since they had that huge one with Hundo. Maybe they just didn't want to burn out the marathons. At least they seem to have a movie marathon on New Year's Day. I'll probably only watch the Lucario movie since I love it so much and it looks like the best movie that they'll show that day.

Apparently, CN took a step back with the openings using the dub theme instead in last night's episode.

Yeah, it kind of scared me because I thought they were starting from the first episode again. I missed a few of the episodes with Idate and tonights episode too (since they were kind of boring/a taste of the filler that will be coming up soon). Yeah, it's strange what they are doing though....

Hit that right on the head MM. Just like how they cut the Foster Intro down, they're airing "Rise" opening for Naruto instead of where it would be it's other intros (like "Go" and then "Seishun Kyosokyoku" when episode 104 starts getting rerun) would air. That way they can have more "ad space" and whatever dumb reason CN has for doing that.

It's not surprising really that they'd get rid of the other long intros after cutting the Foster one. I mean really, we might as well get use to only seeing the long intros air on Toonami now and then get chopped when they get into the weekday rerun. Which like most things CN done latley, is pretty sad and very stupid.

The Ben 10 intro was also cut down.

So, if One Piece ever gets a weekday slot, does that mean they will use the 4K!ds rap for all of the episodes?

Still, at least this is only affecting the shows in prime time. Shows that air in the mornings and afternoons still have their openings intact.

I...do not think they can do that. 4Kids produced that opening so if anything 'Towards the Light' will be shortened or something.

Yes, they can do that. CN is using two completely different tapes for the opening and the episodes, and CN still has the rights to the 4Kids episodes, so there's no reason why they couldn't.

RomanMack
12-28-2007, 04:02 PM
Yeah. Remember, One Piece is One Piece to CN. They could use the 4Kids opening since it's the first One Piece opening that'd appear in reruns... so they'd use it... 'Cause they're incompetent or something. XD

I seriously doubt that FUNimation would press charges for something as trivial as a theme song. And even if they wanted to, they wouldn't get anywhere. As long as CN owns the rights to the shows, they can air whatever they want to.

EscaflownePilot
12-28-2007, 05:07 PM
It wouldn't make sense for any legal issues to be involved, period. So long as CN owns the broadcast rights to everything they air, they should be able to play the 4Kids One Piece opening followed by part one of episode 10 of Ben 10 followed by the second half of Naruto episode 89 within the same half hour if they wanted to. The only possible legal obligations involved would be showing the proper credits in some form for everything aired.

I'm speaking of 4Kids as they are the ones that produced it and I just cannot see them not making some sort of fuss but this is all the worse case scenario.

It's not like it'd be any shorter. The 4Kids rap is a minute and 30 seconds long, while Toward the Light is a minute and 50 seconds long. That's an extra 20 seconds of ad space that'd be achieved just as easily by cutting the preview or something.

They could just as easily cut the Naruto preview, so I don't really see your point.

But the thing is, the Rise! opening is significantly shorter than the standard Japanese openings. Rise! is only 30 seconds, but the One Piece rap is 1 minutes and 30 seconds.

I was watching the Kakashi's mask episode today with my sister on CN's On Demand setup and the Opening GO! did air. D:

I think this leans the problem towards them cutting the OP's during the nightly broadcast 'cause of commercial time. Because, the VOD didn't have any.
