Avatar Contest Results!

First thing to report: 66 people participated in this contest. So how come I only got 28 ballots?

Second: Votes were spread out so evenly that the first place finisher got only 10% of the total votes cast. For awhile there, it looked like it would be a seven-way tie for first place, with every one of them getting 5 votes. :eek:

But a few people managed to pull away from the pack. In the end, The Guitar Slayer finished in first, with 15 votes. Right behind was Terminatah, with 12, and in third was Failure with 8. Lots of people scored 7 votess, 6 votes and 5 votes, too many to list as "honorable mentions."

If the three winners will be kind enough to mail their avatars to me at this address (jaallman@yahoo.com) I'll put them up in this thread.

I think we should make voting a requisite for contest entrants. It doesn't seem fair otherwise.

It really makes no sense to enter and not vote. I would say making voting mandatory if you want to enter the contest would be a good idea, but there would be no point in disqualifying people who didn't do this after the voting has already taken place. Oh well, I guess we just have to live with it for now.

And sorry to hear about Presidents Day. If it makes you feel any better, I didn't get Columbus Day off. :wakko:

I was thinking it would be "mandatory" in an honor system sort of way. We could cross-check votes with entries, but that's overkill for something so trivial. But I would think that maybe by specifically stating "voting is mandatory for all entrants" it would compel more people to vote, even if there wasn't a consequence for not following.

I'd say it's worth a shot. What do you say Maxie? I really am shocked not even half of the people voted, but I guess people just lost interest or didn't want to look through all 66 avatars. It kind of takes all the fun out it when only 28 people care enough to vote.

Well I'll confess I didn't vote. The last few have had my votes, this time it slipped my mind on the 'things to do' list in my head'.

I don't know what the usual turnout out, but perhaps the multitude of entry was a problem.

Perhaps a contest this big needs to have the threads to simply contain entries (a warning in the topic title?) and not comments. This would, IMO, make it easier for both posters to vote. Perhaps if you enter you automatically send the avatar to Maxie and he can keep the winning ones for the result threads rather than having to hunt about for peeps avatars...

Honestly, I didn't vote because I couldn't make a choice between everybody. I had my top three picked out (not including myself), but I couldn't decide first, second, or third. I also didn't want to seem like a self-serving schlemiel by voting for myself. So I abstained this time around.

Congradulations to Everyone! I think it'd be good if we had a 'you enter, you vote' rule. Although, I'm sorry to Maxie, because my votes were late. I think I mailed mine to him about 2 hours before he posted the results. Sorry, I've been busy. I usually make it a habit to send out my votes on the first day of voting. Oh well.
