View Full Version : Foster's float in Macy's parade

I was watching the Macy's parade on NBC and there was a Foster's float.
The characters shown were: Wilt, Coco, Eduardo, Cheese and Bloo.
The characters were shown as puppets.
Cheese sang a song about how he loves Bloo along with a few of his other quirky sayings. Bloo didn't talk and everyone else was just back-up singers.I only thought to post this, 'cause it was seemed like a nice thing for them to do. :anime:

I missed the parade due to oversleepness, but this sounds very familiar to last year.

Cheese was there this year? Eh, don't really care for the guy too much, so I'm not too disappointed that I didn't see it.

I think "Bart Vs Thanksgiving" said it best.
HOMER: If they start building a balloon for every flash-in-the-pan cartoon character, you'll turn the parade into a FARCE.
And since Cheese is one of the worst characters from Foster's ever (and is by far one of the biggest defenitions of "flash in the pan" there's been latley) so obviously he's turned the parade into a farce by taking central attention in the Foster's parade (and to be fair he hasn't even appeared all to much latley. I guess if you count "The little Peas" he appeared in the latest ep even though that was just a repeat preformence, literally). I don't know why Cheese even took up so much attention on the parade over Bloo really since I'm sure Bloo songs would of at least been more interesting.

I liked the "Foster's" float they had last year with everybody singing "With a Little Help from My Friends" and Bloo interupting every chance he got. It was pretty cool, until the end when I noticed a Cheese puppet looking out the window. But at least he didn't do anything.

Herriman was there, too. I saw it as well. I'm not normally into the Macy's day Parade, but I caught enough of it just to see the float. Nice.

Yeah, I just saw that episode the other night, and that definition does kinda match this float LOL.
I wish they gave Naruto a float.
That'd be pretty awesome, maybe next year (it's gotta be more popular than Fosters, so why not...?).

I missed it. Darn it.
Cheese sang "You're My Best Friend" by Queen. It was cute but I'm really sick of Cheese. It would have been better if they just had Bloo sing a song again.

Because Naruto isn't a phenomenon or beloved children's icon. They won't just stick any popular float in the parade. If they did, you'd have seen me as a float years ago.

Last time I checked, Fosters wasn't a "phenomenon". But I guess since CN's not doing so good ratings, they'll take what they can get.

In my honest opinion, I just don't think Naruto would make a great fit. I'm sorry if that offends anyone but it's not that serious. I would like to have seen a few floats of my favorite cartoon characters but unfortunately they weren't in the parade, I can't do anything about it because it's not my parade, it's Macy's.

Agreed. Naruto's a really good show, but really, it shouldn't get that much treatment.

Hey, didn't Pikachu get a float a few years back? If Pikachu can get a float, Naruto should get a float. Hell, Foster's is way less well known than Pikachu, and that got a float. Seriously, I don't even know who Cheese is. Is he that weird bird thing?

Yeah, Pikachu has had a balloon every year since 2001.
But don't blame CN for not giving Naruto a spot in the parade. They only play the show. Viz would have to be the one to set up the whole thing, as PUSA does with the Pikachu balloon.

The idea of a "Foster's" float utilizing a song by Queen is one of the greatest things I've ever heard...and they ruined it by making Cheese the friggin' center of attention again. One more reason why I'm glad I held my own "Mystery Science Theater 3000" Turkey Day marathon instead of watching this year's parade.

I think that Viz would be very likely to suggest a Naruto float soon if it was up to them to make the decision. I mean their logo now has a Naruto-type sound effect with it:p , and there's no doubt they are in love with the show now.

The Pokemon franchise as a whole earned about $15 bill worldwide. Did Naruto garner even $1 bill?

A Chopper float (particularly Chopper-Man) would fit well with the other "cute" balloons... But that's never going to happen...

As an autistic person, you just offended me. Thanks.
Then allow me to offer my humblest and most sincere of apologies for doing so. But I have to ask; how is calling Cheese a freak and an overrated character offensive to you? Your name isn't Cheese, is it? When I said that, I meant that I'm not a fan of Cheese, period. I don't know you well enough to determine whether or not you are funny, and I certainly do not think that you are overrated by any means, but clearly, you are able to express your thoughts and opinions in a comprehensible, intelligent manner, therefore you are nothing like Cheese.
I'm truly sorry if I offended, that was not my intent. My statement was not directed at the expense of the autistic. It was a rip on Cheese, the fictional character from Foster's, nothing more.
Besides, you could find a much better character to represent the autistic than Cheese. I always just thought that Cheese had ADD or something. I figured that autistic people would find Cheese horribly offensive, not speaking in defense of such a character.

That's how I feel. At another site I told people that Fred Fredburger was better and they said he was a copycat of Cheese, sure he came out after Cheese but to say he's a cheap knockoff is so wrong in so many ways.

Not exactly. Many members of Wrong Planet (meant for those with Asperger syndrome, but others on the autism spectrum are welcome too) think Cheese is awesome because he is just like them.

I've also had a stressful week which resulted in me nearly attempting suicide. Forgive me.

I actually didn't think that Chesse is autistic. While I don't normally watch Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, whenever I did see it and Chesse was there, I always thought that he was just hyperactive. I only have Asperger syndrome, one of the forms of autism, but I do not act anything like Cheese. Of course, there is different levels on the autism spectrum of where some people could have similar behavior to Chesse's actions. I usually think of being socially uncomfortable when I think of autism more than the personality traits, depending on the situation.
Dr. Worm, I'm sorry that you had a stressful week and I hope that it becomes better for you. I'm glad that you didn't committ suicide, but I hope that you'll be able to talk to someone about nearly attempting it. Like Mr. Ralph said, I'm sure that there are people both here and in your home life that would be so depressed if you left this world. I hope that everything works out fine for you.
As for the float, I thought that it was cute. I always enjoy the parade and puppets are always cute to me. I did find it a bit odd that they were singing about Bloo and he didn't interupt like he did last year. Like I said, I don't normally watch Foster's, but I do know that Bloo is pretty self-centered. Of course, he proabably enjoyed his friends singing about him. Besides that, I prefered how they were singing about friends in general last year, not just about one of their friends. But that's just me.

Let's clear some air here:
Officially, the character of Cheese is neither autistic nor mentally challenged. I'm sure that Craig McCracken did not have either condition in mind when he created the character, and it's highly doubtful that any character who poked fun at either group would be allowed on kids' TV, what with Political Correctness being what it is and all. For those who wish to view the character as a spokescreature for autism or whatever, if identifying with a character helps you to feel good about yourself and gives you someone to identify with, then there's certainly nothing wrong with that, but honestly, I don't think Cheese is supposed to be anything but crazy and random.
That said, I personally don't care for the Cheese character. However, my disdain for the character has nothing to do with his allegedly being autistic or whatever (since as previously stated, Cheese is not supposed to be autistic); I simply don't find him funny. IMO Cheese is nothing more than random and annoying, and the fact that CN's publicity team has now taken to portraying Cheese as one of the shows' leading lights sicken me, quite frankly, as I find him to be a dimension short of being one-dimensional and as irritating as nails screeching across a blackboard.
I didn't see the parade float in question (I saw last year's, with Bloo and other FHFIF characters singing "With a Little Help from My Friends", and I had mixed feelings about that; I wasn't thrilled that they used a Beatles song for it, but "With a Little Help from My Friends" was never one of my favorite Beatles' tunes), but this year's float sounded like an attempt to cash in on a "flash-in-the-pan" character who's hot this week. Cheese has no lasting appeal, IMO; his annoying-as-all-get-out shtick got old real fast for me, and I hope that by next year, CN's Cheese fetish will have worn off so I won't have to see that awful character plastered all over the place. But that's just my opinion.

OK, folks. I understand that autism is a sensitive subject and no one (myself included) wants to offend anyone and we all want to be on the right side of this, but let's face it, Cheese really is an annoyingly bad character (IMHO). I could understand going to the mat over Goofy or Bullwinkle or Dopey, but not smegging Cheese.
Let's go back to discussing the parade float, shall we?

Okay. A couple things. I did like the float better last year, when they were doing that Beatles song (and the Beatles version, not the Joe Cocker/ opening to the Wonder Years version). But all and all, when any cartoon character sings Queen, that's an automatic A in my book. I even liked that old Mickey Mouse cover of "We Will Rock You/ We are the Champions."
I pretty much only watch Fosters whenever I'm somewhere that has Cable, and I haven't seen too many Cheese episodes, so I can't vouche for his annoying-ness. So, tell me... is he more or less annoying than another similar character- Ralph Wiggum?
Now, as far as Pikachu and all the other flash in the pans are concerned... did anyone else besides me remember the "Ask Jeeves" Balloon? I'm so glad they finally moved out of too many commercial characters. Seriously, Jeeves and Cheesasuarus Rex as Balloons? You're scraping at the bottom of the advertising mascot barrle with stuff like that. I was half expecting the Nazonex Bee to show up at one point.
That said, off topic... Disney... you have access to the most famous cartoon characters in the world. mickey, Goofy, Donald.... why in Frog's name do you have to keep sponsering a JoJo's circus balloon? That's like going into an expensive restaraunt that's famous for a signature dish, and getting just a garden Salad with no dressing.
