Sorry, kids. The schedule has misled you.

Inuyasha, not Voltron, will be airing at 5AM now.

LOL, AS can never make up their mind.

Hmm, so now Inuyasha is in the classic kiddie hour?

EDIT: Ooh, and apparently they're starting from episode one. Perhaps I'll finally give it a try.

Well, people always DID say that it felt more like a Toonami show... :p

Ah, thanks.

I think Voltron will be back next year. It might replace Astro Boy once it finishes it's run of episodes.

Most likely.

I didn't think the 5 AM hour needed a strong show though...but I guess IY fans will be IY fans.

It's my opinion that AS should give the 5am hour back to CN in exchange for CN putting Toonami back on weekday afternoons.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ADULT SWIM, NO MORE OF THIS UNGODLY LIVE-ACTION BULLCRAP!!!!!!!!

I think they should just debut a new classic anime. How many eps does "Astro Boy" have again? I doubt AS is gonna air anything past Lion Voltron just like Toonami did a decade ago. Even still, a classic show with lots of episodes is way too over-ambitious for a 5AM slot.

I'm guessing that Turner's rights to "Gigantor" have expired. If so, since when, and when did they get them to begin with?

A couple of months back on Sunday AS (the night they aired the RC episode with the Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets spoof) they aired a card concerning an AS boards member suggesting they bring in Gatchaman after Astro Boy's done, or something like that. AS's response?

"Yeah about that..............no"

They then plugged the RC Gatch spoof that aired later that night.

With that one response, my dreams for some form of Gatchaman (specifically "G-Force") to air on AS's retro timeslot were CRUSHED, and my efforts at lobbying over at the AS boards and here as well were for NUFFIN'. Guess it's back to searching for rare VHS recordings of G-Force eps..........

193 episodes were made. 104 episodes were dubbed. 52 episodes are being aired on AS at 5:30 a.m., then repeated. It's not known if they'll pick up the other 52 dubbed episodes after a rerun or two.

The series has turned up more than a few times on the channel over the last two decades in Cartoon Network's history. I don't think they'd lose the rights that easily.

Rhino Video did release some of the G-Force episodes on their BOTP DVDs as extras at one episode per disc, though I think they ended the line prematurely.

Nope. Sandy Frank Entertainment owns both "Battle of the Planets" AND "G-Force", and also holds all domestic rights to the first Gatchaman series. Turner produced "G-Force" for Sandy Frank and for a long while Turner and others involved in it's distribution/syndication (Hearst/King Features) had a stake in the show. All rights to "G-Force" reverted back to Sandy Frank in 2003, and now they are the sole owners of it.

Then there's also the rampant rumors of Sandy Frank's decades-long contract with Tatsunoko for the domestic rights to the first Gatchaman having run out earlier this year, which if true means that the original Gatchaman and all of it's variations are gone from the U.S for the forseeable future. I can't get to the bottom of that rumor for the life of me though.

And Rhino ceased all BotP/G-Force DVD releases over three years ago. No point in even following them anymore. Most BotP fans have sprung for the UK series boxset that's been out for years. Fans of "G-Force" (the handful of them) have no hope but having the show aired in it's entirety. Meh.

I'm kind of happy Inuyasha started on episode 1, I am going to try to get into Inuyasha. My girlfriend would make me watch an episode every once in a while
and I never knew what was happening.

I wasn't aware that G-Force's rights are now held by Sandy Frank. Thanks for clearing that up. CN used to use G-Force in the past as filler on Toonami Mid-night Run when Robotech stopped airing, so I thought they had owned it outright.
ADV also made a dub of Gatchaman, which was uncut and true to the Japanese version but I think their rights may have lapsed also since their DVD boxset went out of print.

Yup, it's brief TMR run was the last time "G-Force" aired in a large capacity in the U.S. But it's last full run in the U.S? Probably early 1997. It had long been airing just once a week on Saturday afternoons before it was finally canned on July 1997. I know this because I'm the author of the Wikipedia "G-Force" article, ahem not to toot my own horn :) :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-Force:_Guardians_of_Space

It's a good read.

But yeah, I'm worried about those rumors of Sandy Frank's license expiring. Not even ADV's uncut Gatchaman release was made possible without Sandy Frank's rights.
