 Why am I not surprised?

I would of posted this yesterday, when it WAS my B-Day, but I was MGM Studios all day, so that wasn't an option. Have some birthday cake. Sorry it's from the fridge, but it's still good.

Here's the thing- Birthday threads aren't made for everybody, and they're not made randomly just for the sake of it. There was an issue about that awhile back. The threads that are made nowadays are mostly made by friends of the person celebrating. If you have a friend on TZ, but they didn't make you a thread, don't boohoo over it, and certainly don't make a thread about it. At least you get that lovely default e-mail from TZ. I've always found it to be pretty desperate for people to make their own birthday thread, but that's just me. Of course, I've always had people wanting to make my birthday thread.

This isn't the first time in the last month or so that someone has whined about not getting a thread. I have no issues with the main concept of birthday threads, but when they get to a level like this- I get a little upset. They're not a default thing, the threads have meaning. And before you get too upset, think about how many moderators there are that don't even get a thread. I'll probably link to this post the next time this comes up, just because I'm tired of this stuff.

Happy Birthday. What kind of cake did you have?

i think the last time i got a birthday thread was in 2004... wow, that was a long time ago. i'm never too upset about it, though. that year i got like 3 of them on the various boards around here. lol

happy birthday, first person to post in this thread!

Sorry man, I didn't even check the birthday list yesterday. Happy belated birthday, though!

It's my birthday today, but I don't particularly make a big deal out of having a thread for it. Honestly, the Sonic in Brawl news made my day as far as the Internet is concerned.

The funny thing about the topic creator's complaint is that his birth date isn't even registered into the Toon Zone database, so no one would've known anyways.

Really, if you wanted a birthday thread that badly, you should really put it in your profile.

I knew that yesterday was your birthday (via Cartoon Boom), and was even gonna make a thread, but didn't know what to say.

Happy belated birthday Darklordavaitor!

Wow, yeah, that's true.

You can't really expect people to notice if they have no way of knowing.

Hmm, usually if I want to wish someone a happy birthday, and I don't see a birthday thread, I'll PM them instead.

Anyway, Happy Belated Birthday, Darklordavaitor. Go kill some Pokemon or something.

It's funny that you say that, becuase one of my work supervisors said that his friend invented the "Gotta Kill 'em All" T-shirt with a picture of Pikachu's head on it.

At least you get that lovely default e-mail from TZ. I've always found it to be pretty desperate for people to make their own birthday thread, but that's just me. Of course, I've always had people wanting to make my birthday thread. Meh. I even managed to survive my birthday a month back without even getting the automatic TZ-Birthday e-mail. That's not to say I don't see where people complaining about the lack of recognition are coming from - it's nice to be recognized in a community. Everyone wants that, everyone wants to feel important by someone. It makes you feel noticed, wanted, and accepted - even on the internet where it seems silly.

...then again I always find it kinda hilarious that the people complaining about the complainers, people such as yourself who find it 'desperate' and silly for people to comment on such things - are the popular people who get them every year to begin with...

Regardless -happy belated birthday DarkLordAviator. It's a slightly empty sentiment since I honestly am not too familiar with your presence around the boards - but it's a sentiment all the same. You spent your B-day at MGM so it couldn't have been that bad among all the forgotteness of a single online community.

Happy belated birthday. Seems we have the same birthday. I'm born on the 10 of october as well but I like to keep low. You should be happy with spending your birthday offline with family and friends rather than complaining that no one online wished you a happy birthday. Glad you had fuin at MGM

Toodles!

Personally, I find it a bit silly to be so public about it, and it's not like I fall in that 'popular people who get threads every year' category. Prior to this year, almost no one on this forum would ever acknowledge my birthday, much less make a thread.

Yeah, it'd be a little disappointing when I'd refresh several times on my birthday to see if I got one, but I felt like making a public 'complaint' would just seem juvenile.

But that's just my two cents.

Funny that, I didn't get a b-day email from TZ this year, and I know I've gotten them in the past. I don't mind not getting b-day threads, but I do get miffed when an automated machine forgets. :p

I agree with it, even though I made my own birthday thread this year
But yeah...
Anyways, happy belated birthday! :D

I'd say Discloner has a valid point. It's easy to critcise a situation which isn't all that relevant to yourself. I don't think anyone would disagree that there are certain groups that stick togethor here.

At the same time, it is true to say that you have to keep in mind that birthday threads aren't just a given and that getting one depends on having impacted on someone enough for them to start one. I've only had 2 threads in all my time here and one of those was started when my birthday was nearly over.
Personally, I try and keep tabs on the dates for people I enjoy talking to. Since I live in an earlier time zone, I see it as a duty to start a thread for them.

I don't want to me misunderstood, it's definitely silly to think that out of over 8,000 active members throughout the number of different forums here - you'll be remembered. That's just unrealistic.

However it's not silly to WANT to be remembered, liked, or to stand out in that number. It may or may not be juvenile to complain about that; I'm not trying to make that judgment here. Yet when you consider the theme of the board and expansiveness of the community it's unsurprising that people are actively calling for that attention; either through young age or just through personality. Even outside a gated community of fans - in the real world, people have varying levels of modesty...that's life; not a cry for help or something to belittled for.

People who get that attention have little to no ground to sit in their corner and cast judgment over those who feel their lacking it. Cries for attention might not be something to encourage - god knows they ruffle my feathers; but when those who DO bask in that glow popularity start trying to knock others down for wanting it too...that's kinda insulting from my angle.

I agree with you, I'm just saying that I don't like the concept of making a thread to point all this out.

I've been on both sides of this issue. I know how it feels to not have a birthday thread. Yeah, if you're looking forward to one, as I did, it sucks. But there are worse problems in life than not getting a birthday thread on TZ. And I don't see what making a whole thread about it does. It just makes people think you're a whiner. I'm not trying to judge, I'm just trying to explain.

As far as the 'popular members' theory goes, I'm not sure how much credit there is to that.

I've seen mods, well-liked members, people will 5,000+ posts, etc, not get birthday threads.

And I've seen plenty of members who are far from popular get birthday threads, as well. Some of it really is up to chance.

I certainly don't think we should point fingers.

I'm sure that everyone posting on an online forum for discussing cartoons knows what it's like to be ignored and feel neglected. We're all in the same boat here, regardless of if some members feel more left out than others.

Let's not try and drive each other away.

Time for a group hug, everyone.
