Any ideas where I can take used batteries for recycling?

I'm refering to the AA/AAA Batteries used for household appliances. The recycling center in my area said that they do not recycle batteries, but the library does.

The library, however, only recycles the rechargable batteries.

So does anyone know of any place that recycles nonrechargable batteries?
