One of the holiest days of the year for those practicing Judaism starts at sundown tonight. Though I am not Jewish, through all the religions I have studied, Judaism is a favourite of mine. I think that Yom Kippur is one of the coolest religious holidays, for some reason. Not exactly sure why.
Since this thread wasn't made, I thought I would show a little support for TZ's coolest Jewish folk. Happy fasting and repentance.

No, there isn't, really. Yom Kippur is by defintion "a day of atonement" in which Jews reflect upon their misdeeds from the previous year and ask for forgiveness; it's not really a "happy" holiday. We wish each other a good holiday, of course, but you don't typically hear Jewish people wishing each other a "happy" Yom Kippur. If you wish someone a "happy Yom Kippur", they'll generally get the meaning - you're wishing them a safe and healthy holiday - but again, one doesn't normally wish someone a "happy" Yom Kippur.
Also, if you can find an upside to no food for an entire day, let me know because I'm still searching. :p

I was never 100% clear on this myself. I think it's a means of cleansing one's self of any misdeeds from the previous year and starting anew.

Well, seeing as Cloud is Jewish, evidently at least one Jewish person does it. So maybe we've learned a lesson about making generalizations?

I think you ought to be proud of your faith and your determination in sticking to fasting. That is what I meant by 'happy fasting'. It wasn't meant as a, 'lolfasting' comment, and I don't really appreciate it being taken in such a poor context.

I take this opportunity to, naturally, echo Kury's sentiments. Have a good one.

I apologize for however it sounded; I meant it to be deadpan humor. Whatever well wishes you were sending out, I appreciate them.

"I know Weinstein's parents were upset, uh, superintendent, but, but, but I was -sure- it was a phony excuse. I mean, it sounds so made up: "yom kip pur"."
Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

There is no such thing as a happy fast because food rocks...
Anyway, we fast because of what was previously said, to wipe our sins clean. We only have to do it once a year though. We don't have confession or the like.
It's called an "easy fast" Kury. :)
