remember watching all the ABC Saturday Morning Cartoons from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's

Explain to me how you managed to watch the cartoons during the 50's and 60's if you were born in the mid-70's.

In my case, having been born in the 40's and being a "cartoon geek" since age 8, I do remember most of these shows. ABC was only network to regularly offer a preview of their new Saturday Morning line-up, usually on the Friday evening before the Saturday debut. I started taping these prime time preview specials in 1983. I have the '83, and '85 thru 1999 specials. They featured different hosts and gave "snippettes" of the new Saturday morning shows. Interesting viewing.

That's all. THANX

Thats a huge list, considering 'Bandstand and the DC (Disney Channel) shows are live-action (Well, except part of Lizzie, since we have her animated counterpart)... and thanks for noding One Saturday Morning and Disney Saturdays shows in the list, 'Schoolhouse was also a fun show too...

We should think about doing a poster with all the charaters from said listed shows with the ABC logo with a huge banner saying "60 Years in Animation", now that would make my day...

Disney now controls ABC's Saturday morning line-up with its own programming, with The Power Rangers being an exception.

I think you forgot "Star Wars: Droids" and "Star Wars: Ewoks" in the 80's section.

EDIT: Nevermind, they are there.

Disney now controls Power Rangers - think it was part of the deal when they bought the Family Channel.

And you didn't mention the ABC Nutritional/Educational PSA's with "Time for Timer", "The Bod Squad", "Capt'n O.G. Readmore", "Dr. Henry", "Zack of All Trades", and "Computer Critters".

Hmm....

First of all, ABC's not 60 years old as a television network---its origins date to the late 40's, but didn't really get into animation until the mid-to-late 50s (with Saturday morning TV not truly taking off until the mid-1960s).

Your list is missing "Rocky and His Friends", which is probably ABC's first major cartoon (excluding the ones that aired on "Disneyland"/any various Walt Disney specials in the 50s)...

I don't get how "60 Years of ABC Saturday Morning Programming" is being celebrated when American Bandstand is just a tick over 50.

I mean, by that logic, I've been around in four different decades (the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s), but I'm only 29.

In my case, having been born in the 40's and being a "cartoon geek" since age 8, I do remember most of these shows. You've taped the Saturday Morning Preview Specials since 1983?!?

Amazing. Do you still have the tapes? I mean, my ABC affiliate didn't air the 1992 special because they broadcasted a live speech by President Bush (the first one) at the time. Ever considered archiving 'em on the net?

In the 1970's list, you missed Devlin (which goes in-between The New Adventures of Gilligan & Korg, 70,000 BC)!

:D - Oh man...you mentioned "Uncle Croc's Block"...that brings back memories. Charles Nelson Riley? Unlikely, but it happened and it was the cool "Pee-Wee Herman" like show which was better (in my humble opinion).

lol...Wacky and Packy, the M.A.S.H. parody and the unlucky cat (forgot the name).

Yeah. Too bad that no one got the reference, or cared, that it was supposed to be a 1950's style Uncle Nutzy's Clubhouse type show (Reference to both mad Magazine and UHF). I'd gather that was the best part of the show.

I was unfortunate enough to pick up a DVD of Wacky and Packy (one of those Discount dollar expired copywrite DVD's BTW) and I will say, it was one of the worst cartoons I've had the misfortune of witnessing ever. Did we really need another Caveman based off of Jackie Gleason? I bet MUSH was funny, though.

Anyway, I'll say what I said about the CBS thread (anyone surprised this said 60 years, when the other was 80 years, predating Television all together?). Long, rich history crushed to dust. Even early 2000's, they still had decent
programming. Now it's reruns of Emperor's new School and Replacements (which I wouldn't mind, if they showed more episodes) and the same Tween com garbage over and over. And it's kicking butt in the ratings too. That's the even sadder part.

Sadly sits in corner, remembering Bump in the Night, the "after these messages, we'll be right back" claymations (I met one of the animators), and various others.

lol...Wacky and Packy, the M.A.S.H. parody and the unlucky cat (forgot the name). The name of the unlucky cat was appropriately named Fraidy Cat. I'm glad I never saw Wacky & Packy. 2 cavemen in NYC? Puh-leez!

One thing I don't see in the 70's part of the list is...Captain Caveman & the Teen Angels. In 1979, after Scooby's All-Star Laff-a-Lympics ended, they decided to give them their own show with a few new eps. It may have lasted only 6 months, but was still enjoyable.:) My favorite cartoon is still "The Old Caveman & the Sea" which takes place at Miami Beach! I simply love seeing the Teen Angels in gorgeous bikinis!:anime:
