Hey Folks, Check it out! A new Tom and Jerry movie with story by Joe Barbera, his final masterpiece. Even the cover looks like the Original Tom and Jerry. I was actually able to see a preview of this in advance thanks to a couple of friends at Warner Bros. I am so glad that it's getting a little press since being completed a while back. Heres a link to get a little more info

I do want to see this, but I'm not going to buy it, I'll just wait for CN to air it instead.

So good ol' Joe did this one, making it his last work, huh? Sounds like a reason if any to buy it. Sounds like a good story line. I have been watching Tom and Jerry tales and I found it pretty good. I haven't seen the other movies (the 1993 one were they talked left a bad taste in my mouth), so I wonder how this one is going to be.

Here's what I wrote about the DVD over at the GAC forum:
So uhhh...has anyone picked this up?
I did, unfortunately. I can't resist anything featuring Tom and Jerry. And sadly this is a title I should have avoided.
The movie looks nice, I suppose. Spike Brandt's T&J designs looked great in The Karateguard, and that style also works in the new Tom and Jerry Tales episodes. But after staring at the designs for almost 49 minutes (that's right, this "feature length" film is only 49 minutes long) I started to get repulsed by how Jerry and Tuffy looked. Tom doesn't look so bad, though. Everyone is just...busy in the details. It didn't sit right for me.
This "movie" just crams way too many talky characters into it, especially the nausiating toy elf, horse and ballerina. There's very little of the Tom and Jerry slapstick. The film is more of a childish fantasy than anything resembling Tom and Jerry. Then again, the story was by Joe Barbera himself and he created the characters. So what do I know.
Why can't someone just put these two characters in a traditional T&J situation, break loose with the violence and just let the characters act natural. It's not that hard. Why do we have to keep getting subjected to stuff like space travel, reality TV, pirates and toys come to life?
Avoid it.

I'll just wait for it to air on CN then. If this is Joe's last contribution to the animation world, I have to see this no matter how painstakingly awful.
Man...too bad it sucks. I was just gonna post that everybody should buy the DVD in support of Joe Barbera and his legacy in animation.
Oh well...

Give it a chance. I myself am a huge tom and jerry fan and found it fantastic. The animation is good, the movie itself looks like tom and jerry unlike the magic ring and so forth. You can see Joe's influence in this movie. Joe wrote this and you can tell. Never let someone else influence your judgement before you see it. One guy says its bad on the forum and everybody starts complaining before they see it.

Check out this link. Some beautiful animation from Joe Barbera's last Tom and Jerry project. Hopefully many of you aren't too picky to enjoy this.

Well they posted one of the better scenes from the movie. Try sitting through the whole movie.
I'll admit that Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone definitely know these characters well, and the drawings and animation never looked better. Tom finally looks and acts like Tom. But the story still stinks.

Warning: Minor Spoilers
What don't you particularly care for as far as the story goes? Overall I felt it was pretty good. I mean this is for a kid audience but I think it was made for everybody to enjoy. I felt that Joe did a good job writing this, I mean the whole we have to find the star with "a chase" does somewhat stay true to the original shorts. The new characters were charming and each had their own story. Say for example Paulie wanting to be a real toy(reminiscent or Pinocchio I guess) instead of an ornament or Nelly wanting to be a hero.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I totally respect that, but what don't you like? I'm just curious.

Thanks for the link!! While there, I saw the whole His Mouse Friday, and the uncut Mily Waif, which I've never seen before! (Last time I tried to watch that, they had the edited version, and then they started taking all this stuff down as copyright/TOS violations.)
I wish in this new Christmas movie they didn't have Tom being so mean. Maybe it will end something like "The Night Before Christmas"?
