View Full Version : So do the people at Cartoon Network have something against DC Comics?

I'm just saying cause while they air Teen Titans, they don't seem to be willing to air DC toons as much. Yeah I know that DC Comic properties cost them money, but why are they willing to show more interest in Marvel (which I imagine would be more costly)?
I'm refering of course to the decision to add The Batman to Boomerang rather than CN. For the following reasons, it doesn't even make sense business wise:
1. They seem willing to air Mucha Lucha and Xiaolin Showdown. Nothing against those show, but they have 52 episodes each, whereas The Batman has 52 episode plus 13 more episodes to come.
2. The fact that there's an upcoming movie to plug into the cartoon.
3. Recognizable characters/franchise.
I mean, if the show performed poorly on the KidsWB airing, I'd understand the choice to move it to Boomerang. Heck, Legion Of Superheroes will probably get the B treatment after it gets more episodes.

Well ,Legion was announced to airSaturdays on CN last year, but no more word of course..
CN has to pay to air DC shows, which is retarded since they are sister networks..

Yes, they have to pay for DC shows, but then why are they willing to pay for Marvel programs?

That's because when you work for Turner, Time Warner always slaps you in the face.

So the decision is a result of personal disputes between the the companies right. Sheesh, between Time Warner and Turner, Marvel and DC (Editor problems I'm told), these bigshots need to own up and get some therapy.

Isn't it WB & Turner who have issues not Time Warner & Turner since Time Warner is the dad of WB & Turner?

Well, dads can't spawn children... so, TWX would be the mother. But, you're correct.

WB & Turner are sisters, but Turner has been adopted since September 1995. Turner is the parent of its companies, like CNN, Cartoon Network (I'm just putting that particular name here only once), Court TV, Adult Swim, TBS, TNT, Boomerang, CNN Airport Network, Headline News, and the soon-to-be-bought NBA TV network, You can say Court TV and TBS are sisters because there part of Turner and they're networks (TBS is the oldest sister (1976) and NBA TV is the youngest (2002)). The "auntie" is Turner Broadcasting System.
Whew, that was fun!

Turner Broadcasting System IS Turner... but what is strange about this thing is that Time Warner is also the mother of Cartoon Network, CNN, et al; by some strange reasoning.

I know TBS is Turner, but like I said on Turner's wing, they have their networks (nieces) and Turner was formerly a parent until 1995 when Turner became a auntie in law after Time Warner bought it, and WB and Turner are sisters, and Kids' WB! and CN are cousins, and......I can't think anymore.

I dont think they dont like DC. In fact, they air more DC then Marvel. Yes, they air the movies (Like Iron Man, Ultimate Avengers I & II, Spider-Man, etc). But, while they air Marvel movies more then DC, they air more DC shows. I haven't seen a Marvel show on CN in years (If they even ever aired them).
Also, DC doesn't have many movies.

What about Fantastic Four?

What about Fantastic Four?
And X-Men Evolution?

Also, they at least give the Marvel toons a rerun, whereas JLU only got a brief encore for the first 26 episodes. Season 3 never got an chance to rerun.
Do they have any professional reason to move The Batman to Boomerang? Or is it the Warner/Turner dispute as has been said.

Well, F4 really doesn't count. ;)
Still, the DC shows out number Marvel's (On CN).
It's the money, I guess. Then again that's the only explanation I've ever been given about it. That and that interview about "concentrating more on original properties." Then again they do seem to be leaning more towards Marvel lately.
My guess is that CN is only airing the Fantastic Four series to help promote the movies (seeing as the series did disappear until word of the sequel got out, yes?). So maybe they're getting a good deal from it....
/conspiracy theory ;)

Except that:
A. Batman and Superman even without movies are household names. If you were to strike a conversation with a non comic fan, whom do you suppose they'd be familar with: Fantastic Four or Superman & Batman. Does a character become a company icon by lacking familiarity and profit in merchandise?
B. They have movies coming out anyway, so sending The Batman to Boomerang makes no sense in a business sense. Legion Of Super Heroes is definately going to be sharing TB's same fate.

I'm not exactly sure what you're objecting to in my original post.
Fantastic Four is definitely not as well known. That's why I think CN may be getting a good deal from Marvel in helping to promote it. Then again I'm just speculating.
As for the Batman sequel, maybe CN will actually air something Batman related early 2008 to coincide with it. Who knows.

Umm, no..
CN said it'll be airing Saturdays at lat year's upfront. Even CN isn't stupid enough to not give it a chance. The Batman got two chances, and i guess they didn't try for a third..
Probably The Batman will be brought up, or we'll get Batman and Robin, which i still haven't seen..

I wasn't objecting to anything really, just using your post to point out the problem with CN Network's method.
That being, that they'll pay money for a comic based shows that requires a movie to draw in ratings VS comic based shows that are mainstream and can only improve in ratings with a movie tie in. It makes no sense given that they go for easy ratings. You don't get any easier than Batman and Superman.
