View Full Version : Hey CN....remember your Gamera plans?

So I was having a conversation with a TZ member, and he brought up about how CN could potentially make more anime like PPGZ or even making new episodes of Bo-bobo like they did with Big O...

Then I remembered this (http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/7757.html). Cartoon Network had plans for a Gamera cartoon to air THIS PAST SPRING.

So, I'm curious. Whatever happened to their plans?

(Also, it's shocking, I know; me actually making a non-talkback topic.)

The Gamera movie they released last Spring bombed. Very, very badly. That probably has something to do with it.

Aw man. Gamera would have adapted very well to animation considering how over-the-top the movies are.

I've been wondering about that myself. I don't think Gamera has ever had an animated series before. If they scraped it, then that's a shame...it's been awhile since we've had a decent kaiju-based cartoon.
Here's hoping it's just in development or release limbo, I've noticed alot of shows have been coming out at a much slower pace in recent years.

They released a Gamera movie last spring?

Surely, the movie last spring was a failure absolutely NOT because it harkened back to something so corny as the 60's gamera movies, something which absolutely no one had nostalgia for to see again, rather than to continue from some of the best and most sucessful kaiju movies of all time, the 90's Gamera trilogy. SURELY that wasn`t the reason. -_-;;

SURELY that wasn`t the reason. -_-;;More succesful they may have been, but I think more people remember the older 60s-70s gamera rubber suit movies than the 90s trilogy.

In either case, I don't think those who remember ye olde Creature Feature movies or the Trilogy have anything to do with the success or failure of the CN Gamera movie (was it the ADV release? I forget)... more to do with the product and the audience not connecting.

OT: Gamera in Cloverfield?

This just in, Cloverfield will be a movie about Voltron, Godzilla, and Gamera's huge battle in New York City with Cthulhu monsters while the cast of Lost fight an alien only known as The Parasite.

Actually, that does sound like an awesome movie...

Awesome but highly unlikely.

I never responded to you PMs. Don't you dare derail this thread.

Everyone just ignore him.

Anyway, I doubt the CN Gamera series is ever going to happen. Interest in that sort of thing is at an all time low right now, and it doesn't help that the recent Gamera film was a box office failure. I'll admit the buzz around Cloverfield is pretty big, but it's not going to make much of an impact with regards to things like the Gamera cartoon or new Godzilla movies.
