Although livingfruitvirus mentioned it in the Anything Else thread, I felt it needed a separate thread for this.

At Anime Expo, FUNimation mentioned that AS picked up more episodes, bringing the total count to 52 episodes.

Excellent news. It's nice to know one show with -Chan in the name doesn't bomb in the ratings.

Milk turns sour, but Shin is forever.

Just curious, what show with -Chan in the name have failed before?

Super Milk-Chan.

Ah, right. But were people actually expecting Super Milk-Chan to get good ratings? Shin Chan actually has thought-out humor, while Milk-Chan is just WTF.

Well, AS aired the straight dub for Milk-Chan instead of the Americanized dub for the show. I don't know if it would have changed the ratings but it would have had a better chance.

Super Milk-chan is a rare instance where an Americanization of a dub actually IMPROVES the show.

So, if Shin Chan is a success, is there any chance that they'd put it on Sundays?

Possible, but not probable. It actually has to get good ratings first. And since it hasn't been in the top three on Saturdays, I doubt we'll see Shin Chan on Sundays any time soon.

Ratings sure doesn't prevent The Oblongs from going back to Sundays.

For roughly four episodes. Then it gets tiring.

Good point. It is a bit strange that The Oblongs are moving back to Sundays after it kinda failed on Saturdays.

I'm glad they're going to air more Shin-chan. I'm tired of weekdays being reduced to ALL repeats.

32 more episodes? Great news.

I hope the show goes to Sunday at a nice time slot though - or failing that, weekdays. I still think this is a show with great mainstream potential but putting it on freaking Saturday night obviously kills any chance of that. I consider myself a pretty hardcore geek but there is NO chance I am going to watch TV on a Saturday night ... come on AS.

It's actually 52 more episodes. [adult swim] has ordered 52 new episodes in addition to the 20 they already have, so you know it's doing well.

No, he was right. Thanks for playing though.
