b) We aren't supposed to actually hear what Ichigo says the first time. Hence why Zangetsu says "I can't hear you"

c) Ichigo's "Just surviving is meaningless. Just fighting is meaningless. I want to win!" is so powerful because he came up with it on his own. In the dub, Zangetsu gives him that option from the start, so Ichigo loses all cool points.

Argh, this dub pains me. The script is so lackluster.

Zangetsu shouldn't have to baby Ichigo. Besides, the dialogue in the Japanese version was cool. The dialogue in the dub completely changes the feeling of the scene.

Seriously, if you're asked: would like to fight, live or win? anyone would say 'win'. There's nothing to it in the dub. It's completely screwed up.

I didn't really notice any dub errors, since I haven't seen the original, but I didn't like this episode much anyway. This show is just getting lethargic in how drawn out its battles are. We should not have to see Ichigo face the same opponent three episodes in a row (or is it four? I've lost track). Surely this could've been done in less time. The arrival of Zangetsu was kind of cool, though.

But... holding on. Because episode 41 is coming up, and... :D

I'm not a big fan of the Ichigo vs. Kenpachi fight, AT ALL. I really watched this episode for Ichigo's other half. He's awesome.

This episode was compleatly eeee worthy. I was fangirling.
Kenpachi is a sadistic crazy lunatic, but we love him anyways. His attitude toward fighting is just.. insane. Very awesome, and once again it's nice to see clashing of powers on my Tv screen instead of on some AMV with subtitles screwing up the moment. Ichigo fighting himself was neat, and I liked the voice for the other him, or what ever you want to call it. Alter physco ego.
I found it ironic though, how after Ichigo falls at the end of the episode, a happy little upbeat tune comes on saying 'Happy People':sweat: .

Okay so Ichigo gets called back into his own mental world of the weirdly tilted buildings, gets chalelnged by a freaky white version of himself and learns that he needs to fully trust in his Zanpaktu in order to awaken it's true powers and become strong enough to win. It's this that gives him a super boost of power and allows him to actually truely cut Kenpachi who then reveals how his eyepatch was a device that signfically weakened his power. After a fearsome clash, Ichigo... has shown to be defeated yet again. Really, can't say I saw that coming. I do like that in Bleach despite second chance miracle powerup dosen't mean that the main hero automiatlcally wins (like when Ichigo was cut down the first time in the human world by the sixth captain) and that it shows despite Kenpachi not callign out his Zanpaku he's still too powerful an opponent to be beat. Still made for a pretty good ep (even the little scene of the two other 11th squad members sensing Kenpachi's battle). Guess next time we focus away from Ichigo and more on Yamado and Gantu finally in the process of rescuing Ruika. Let's hope she dosen't "go all emo on them' or something like she seems to do in the preview.

I think it's better Kenpachi winning than Ichigo, despite how determined he is. Kenpachi is a captain for a reason, and to be beaten by Ichigo this quickly JUST because he suddenly felt a burst of energy would be like saying 'no matter what the hero always wins and is always stronger.' It would seem as if the Captains arent really that amazing. At least Ichigo is feeling the pain for awhile.

I was actually pretty dulled out during the whole bit of Ichigo fighting with his inner self and to trust in Zangetsu. It took that funny bit with those two Squad 11 underlings, Yachiru yelling at the mailman, and Zaraki powering up to full power.

Now that I think about, I guess I don't like the Ichigo-Kenpachi fight as much as I thought I did. But boy, the ending's still great. Ha, Ichigo learned to work with Zangetsu against the solo Kenpachi, and the Squad Captain still won anyway! I love it, but it kinda makes the first half of this episode useless.

Oh, and I can tell 'Happy People' is a great toe-tapper. But starting in an episode were Ichigo is supposedly 'defeated?' Yeah... great timing... :shrug:

It's still Bosch. His voice is just more high-toned and playful. Which is what I was hoping for (instead of getting a new voice). The dubbing even matched the voice effect; it really does sound like the original.

Other than that, yeah, I don't care for Kenpachi either, so the rest of the show was meh.

In most anime, the big strong brute is usually shock when hurt and goes into a beserked mindless rage but not Kenpachi. He just laughs outloud like his having the time of his life. Which, of course, he is and thats why I love him. :anime: I want to be apart of his squad.

and anyone else notice how his kiddy 2nd in command seems to have far more power than a kid should have? :eek: She sacred that ninja ups guy after all. :eek:

Interestingly, like Sketch, this was the episode where I realized the show was going to be DBZ padding a lot of the time. What saves it, IMO, is that Kubo Tite can seriously think up plot twists and it is becoming clearer and clearer he really had this story plotted out in detail before the first chapter was ever published :D.

As to my favorite part of tonights episode - that would have to go to Kenpachi's pink hair Lt. whose name I never can remember. So what I tend to do is call both of them (as a unit) "Kenny and Tinkerbell" :anime: Calling them this is meant to be amusing and not as a dig at them in any way (I like these two characters quite a bit).

Anyway, what I thought was a great moment tonight was when the messenger showed up and Tink lost her temper. Obviously she's quite a powerful piece of work in her own right, as well as being the chibi comedy relief in this part of the series :sweat:

I didn't really notice any dub errors...It's not that there are dub errors, exactly... (well, ok, so there are) but even more frequently, it's just a poor choice of wording. You can have a more or less accurate translation while still botching the dialog somehow. Bleach's scripts continue to be awkward, if you ask me.

I really wish characters would stop dying at the end of each episode (only to come back in the next episode). It's starting to get old.

Happy People, eh? Don't really like it that much. Then again, maybe it'll grow on me. And I think it would've been better to play this ending from episodes 25-38 and then have the squads' individual endings from 39-51, since at this point I have a better understanding of the squads.

I enjoyed this episode even though it was too DBZ-ish for me. I have to say that Johnny did a wonderful job as Ogichi, the official name for the other Ichigo. He really captured the animalistic nature and the laugh was perfect. The Kenpachi fight was okay until the spirtual auras started creating skulls and Hollows. It was not that necessary to do that at all. Plus, I thought this episode ended with the first few minutes of the next episode. I can blame that on my first Bleach viewings being 9+ back-to-back episodes a day.

Ichigo fighting against "himself"....loved the echoing effect on the other Ichigo's voice...

Yachiru getting mad at the guy delivering the news for interrupting her viewing of Kenpachi's fight (I like the English translated manga's dialogue a bit more.... "DON'T BOTHER ME WHEN KENNY'S FIGHTING!!!")...

The scene with Ikkaku and Yumachika (we finally learn the effect of Ganju's bomb....Yumachika has an afro now....)

The next episode preview.... Ikkaku and Yumachika trying to recruit people for Squad 11...

From viewing next week's preview, looks like Hanataro and Ganju have gotten to Rukia....and we learn some more about Kenpachi and Yachiru...

Well I finally watched this episode of Bleach, and I thought it wasn't bad. Much better than the slow paced ep from the week before. I liked the scenes with Ichigo, Zangetsu and Ichigo's alter ego. It was nice to finally see Ichigo and Kenpachi finally finish their fight, and what a bloodbath it was. I found it funny how Kenpachi's Lt. yelled at that other person to leave her alone. Happy Feet is a nice ending, although I prefer Houki Boshi, and I already miss it.:crying: I'll be at Anime Next this weekend, so I won't be able to watch the new ep when it airs, but I'll tape it.

Normally I'd let you get away with your dub bashing, but this time I'm calling you out.

Zangetsu says the same thing in the manga: "Do you want to fight? Do you want to win? Or do you want to live?"

I even checked the fansub (and I never watch fansubs) and it's the same three questions in the same order. Ichigo replies softly "I want to win" and Zangetsu says "I can't hear you."

So I ask you: what is your source for Zangetsu only asking Ichigo "Do you want to fight or do you want to live?" ?
