If so is there any reason to upgrade?
Or any reason to not?

Internet Explorer 6?
Funny story time!
I applied to Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and I received a package from them a few days ago. Apparently my acceptance depends not only on my academic abilities, but also on filling out a Personal Information File about things like leadership qualities, community involvement and extracurricular activities. I could do this online or in the sheet that's enclosed with the package, according to the letter. There was no sheet enclosed with the package.
What does this have to do with anything? Read on and learn, grasshoppah.
So I decide to fill out this form online. I go to Queen's website, as per instructions. It won't let me access the page unless I download Internet Explorer 6.
Seeing as how I really do want to go to Queen's, I download and install IE6, and reboot.
And now my start button on my toolbar doesn't work.
I press it, nothing happens.
(And no, this isn't one of the problems fixable by rebooting or reinstalling).
It's not fatal- but it is annoying to hunt down my programs every time I want to use them.
My friend tells me that IE6 was made with Windows XP in mind, and may not be compatible with an OS lower than that.
Moral of the story?
Queen's sucks.
No.
Don't get IE6 unless you have Windows XP or higher (I think Windows ME is okay too).

my brief stint with ie6.....back when I used Windows as my primary OS....was not happy..
I think I uninstalled it in record time..it's ugly, it's newly released, so it's buggy...and 5.5 is the best you're gonna do for a while.

I'm using IE6 (on Windows XP) and haven't had any trouble with it. I had to turn off the automatic image resizing thing though, cause it was very annoying.

There, see, Windows XP.
On another note, it seems to load pages a lot slower than whatever I had before (I think it was 5.5). You know, when you click on a link and nothing happens for a few minutes....that's annoying. I thought it was my connection, but it didn't happen as often or as long when I had what I had before.

I talked about this in a thread in Feedback which no one probably read. When I cleared out some of the temporary files, IE6 didn't display a lot of the boards little envelope and arrow icons. I did everything to try to fix it, and finally downgraded and everything worked fine. Going back up to IE6 brought the problem back too. I honestly can't tell any difference between IE5 and 6, other than 6's little mistakes.
I DL IE6 just to upgarde and all my cookies were gone and there was no way I could make it accept cookies...

I have IE6 with Windows ME right now, I used to have it on Windows 98. No big problems.
There's no big special features that would make IE 6 a must-have upgrade, a little thing with blocking certain cookies, auto image resizing, bunch of minor stuff.

I guess I'll just avoid it until I'm forced Nightflower style to get it.

You need IE5.5 with service pack 2 or IE 6.0. There's too many security holes in 5.01 and earlier, mostly scripting holes which the Nimda worm takes advantage of. I'm running IE 6 on Win98SE with no problems.
naraht- You were probably using the MSN version of IE. The Windows IE 6 version looks the same as IE 5.0.

Is it just me or does anyone else see "XP" as the screw-up-face-and-stick-out-your-tongue emoticon instead of the letters? Every time Windows XP comes up in a conversation (verbal, not on the computer! :p) between my friends, I say it as "Windows *screws up face and sticks out tongue*"
Did that make sense? Blargh.
