That's interesting.

Also, it's airing at 2 AM, so it looks like the special 5 AM hour is going to end. I thought it was just an error in the schedule when they put Voltron at 2 AM for next week, and had the repeat block carry over until 6 AM, but now it looks like there was a purpose behind it.

Wait, what? I wasn't paying attention, but AS is airing Astro Boy? That's awesome, I never thought I'd see that show back on air. Of course, it's in the middle of the night, but, hell, this is why I have a DVD recorder.

Edit: Which series?

MeggieMay

Yeah, which series is a good question. If it's the one Toonami didn't ever finish running, then that's cool for the people who were following that. However, if they picked up the original series I have to wonder when and where they are going to air that (and isn't having Voltron and Gigantor enough?).

Gee, I would have thought that Futurama would have boosted the ratings a lot more considered the marathon got over 700,000. Why is it that marathons do so much better than a single episode? Maybe 11:00 is just too early for people to be home. The highest rated episodes in the marathon were the later episodes, after all.

Well though it isn't going to happen... they could give 11-12AM to Toonami and start ASA with Bleach. If they want to keep Futurama around play it later and it'll do fine. Given Toonami has at least 3 shows it could be airing but isn't and several movies it could rerun. But like I said, I don't see it happening.

Quite admirable for Bleach to best Futurama two weeks in a row. It might crack Inuyasha 600k's afterall.

I would expect that their Astroboy is the oldest series or the 80s series not the Sony one.

It's not really all that admirable when you consider that the ratings for the Futurama marathon were twice as high as Bleach.

Wait, did you say two weeks in a row? Did they show the ratings for the 9th too? Rabi only posted the ratings for the 16th.

Toonami doesn't deserve 11-12. They don't even use their normal timeslots wisely. I mean, come on, 4 year old Teen Titans reruns? 7 year old DBZ reruns? I mean, I like DBZ, but if they really wanted to show Prince of Tennis or MAR or Zatch or whatever show you want back on the air, they'd just drop Titans and DBZ.

And it seems like people are really getting sick of Futurama. It's not doing as well as it used to.

my review of Home Movies: Identifying a Body

I thought the scene where Brendon was on the blind guy's corner. Paula's boss was funny.

best lines:

Teacher: who are doing this for (referring to the walk-a-thon)
class: ... You (i like the line because it reminds me of a walk-a-thon i was in. it was for the school and they always made sure you knew it (The one i was in)

Homeless person: this movie sucks

Lawyer:so is Brendon your son?
McGuirk: no. if he was i'd kill myself
Brendon: (talking to McGuirk) I'd probably kill you too
McGuirk: shut up
Brendon: you shut up

If it's the original black-and-white Astroboy that's airing, then thank you AS!

...But if it's just the hackdub Sony made of the 2003 show, then booo!!

AS has made negotiations with Manga Ent. in the past for the Read or Die movie (owners of the '80s Astroboy), but have aired black-and-white '60s Gigantor so making a deal with Rightstuf (owners of the '60s Astroboy) or Manga Ent. is not out of possibility. Then again, Gigantor could have just aired on AS because Turner may already own its broadcast rights since it aired on CN in years past. I dunno...

You know, I didn't notice this last night, but in that Inuyasha bump, [as] revealed their current scheduling plans for weeknights up until September.

It's all here (http://boards.adultswim.com/adultswim/board/message?board.id=3&message.id=591959#M591959), but to summarize: Futurama, Family Guy and the hour of IY all stay.

12:00 switches to Harvey Birdman/Frisky Dingo, then later to Harvey/Saul.

12:30 goes from Bleach to Blood+ in August then back to Bleach in September.

1:00 goes from FMA to Cowboy Bebop in September.

Then again, I'll be surprised if they don't change things up again before then.

Yeah, seriously, has AS ever kept the same schedule for 3 months? Plus I don't see Bebop returning to weekdays since they've already stuck it in the 5 a.m. slot on Saturdays.

Also, anyone notice that the Robot Chicken Star Wars special is replacing Family Guy next Sunday? Come on Adult Swim, you've already aired it 8 times and have it online with Interactive Video. What makes you think it can get better ratings than FG this time around?

I doubt Bebop will be airing at 5 AM anymore. With the news of Astroboy airing in a few weeks at 2 AM, this means that the repeat block on Saturday will now end the block. The special 5 AM hour will be gone.

That's most likely why Bebop gets 1 AM on weekdays. Besides, this is the second time its return has been pushed back.

As for the Sunday issue, I'm sure they aren't worried too much. The special didn't do much worse than FG usually does, and plus, there's going to be a FG marathon that Friday, which will more than likely make up the ratings and then some for not airing on Sunday.

I really hope it's the 60's series, since that's the only Astro Boy series I don't have on DVD.

Then again, if it's the 80's version, that'd be awesome too. That version needs more respect, since it only aired briefly in syndication, and 75% of it was about human genocide, with humans getting killed left and right.

That seems rather strange. I always thought AS didn't want more Lupin. It only lasted three or four episodes when they brought it back on Saturdays this year, so they don't really have any initiative to get more episodes. Plus I believe they mentioned in a bump earlier this year that Lupin was as likely to get new episodes as a third season of The Big O, so it looks like they've pretty much given up on Lupin.

I heard Tezuka himself preferred the '80s version over the '60s one.

Probably because the 80's series was like the manga (a serious story about robots trying to become accepted in a racist society), while the 60's series was a comedy.

Also, the 80's series was the only of the three Astro series that didn't have it's production controlled by a strict company (the 60's series was produced by NBC, and the 03' series was produced by Sony).

According to the Geneon rep I see at every Sakura Con, Lupin sold very poorly so they stopped dubbing episodes. Perhaps they see no merrit in giving AS more episodes if they can't sell DVDs as well. Though I'm not sure if the show has DVDs or ever will have DVDs in Canada.

Well, I have a DVD recorder too, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to set it to record over a disc. The only way I can record over a disc is by actually hitting the record button. So, in other words, if I want to record something at 5 in the morning and I don't have any blank discs I need to actually wake up at 5 in the morning to hit record. And there's no way I'm going to do that.

Obviously, I can use the timer recording to record on a blank disc, but with no practical way to record over it, you end up with a lot of discs lying around.

Obviously, I can use the timer recording to record on a blank disc, but with no practical way to record over it, you end up with a lot of discs lying around.

Hmm. Well, I don't use rewritable DVDs. Since non-reusable DVDs are so cheap, I don't have that much of a problem buying them in mass quantities. I just throw them out when I'm done watching them, unless it's something I really want to keep.

I typically just delete the stuff on my disks once I'm done watching it, unless it's something I'm going to keep. I've got a bunch of Samurai Jack recordings somewhere... Maybe I should record Astro Boy, since it'll probably never air again once AS gets rid of it.

Shin-chan was so much fun I didn't have to smack the bunny today.

Yeah, I'm probably just gonna end up throwing them out, but it seems like such a waste. All that plastic just taking up landfill space.

There's a way to delete the stuff on the discs? How do I do this?

Okay, so this is how I see it. There are three main types of recordable DVDs: DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD-RAM. With DVD-R, you can't record over it. With DVD-RW, you can record over it, except you have to delete everything on it first. With DVD-RAM, you can do lots of editing, and choose what you want to delete and/or save. (Don't ask me about the specifics on that one, because I've never used it before. Try looking in you DVD instruction manual for specific instructions.) It goes without saying that RAM is much more expensive then the other two, and in my personal opinion it's not worth the high cost.

Now, back on topic. I'm liking these new Action bumps. IMO, they're better then the previous ones.

I have -RW disks and they don't really seem to have any problems. It has a list of things you've recorded, and you can delete them, or edit them, or whatever.

The thing is, I'm sure they want to dub more episodes, since otherwise this property they own is doing nothing for them. And from everything I've seen from Adult Swim, I'm sure they'd like to run more Lupin, too. If only the ratings weren't so low. Though I can't imagine Gigantor or Astro Boy doing any better. More TV exposure would help Geneon move more DVDs, though I understand if they'd rather focus on something else than beat a dead horse, sadly. Still, I've been hearing about Lupin going on various download and on-demand services, not to mention the 52-episode run on G4 Canada (a block Geneon basically programs themselves) - so Geneon is clearly still interested in promoting the series wherever they can.

(And, uh, yeah Sketch, Canada gets the same DVDs you do. That's the nature of Region 1.)
