Well, the iPhone is coming out in 6 days. And the question is, will you be getting one? My answer is maybe. Although probably not. Because I still have a contract with Verizon, and it'll be hard to convince them to switch to switch to AT&T, which has worse service them Verizon. The Price is also an issue. I don't think I'm getting one, but I want it.

I ain't paying over $100 for a phone, no matter how fancy-shmancy it might be.

When it gets cheaper, though (a LOT cheaper), I'll be all over that sexy thang.

Hell no. All I just want in a phone is to be able to call domestically and internationally and have space to put amusing themes for my ringtones.

I once heard a ringtone which was "Afro Gunsou", which is above all else awesome in more ways than one. Off-topic, but that needed to be said.

Probably not, I really havn't gotten any extended periods of enjoyment out of MP3 players, Cellphones, or portable video devices. Even though I allready have a cellphone i rarely use it.

I mean pretty much I just regularly use portable videogame handhelds which I don't tend to get bored with quickly unlike the other devices.

I mean the UI for the iPhone looks nice same with the device asthetics, but it really doesn't intrest because considering the media that it specializes in I will probably not use it on a regular baisis.

Heck no. I'm a college student; I don't have that kind of money to throw away even if I wanted to. Besides, I see this sort of thing as being the wave of the future so maybe when the price goes down I'll consider it. But until then I'm happy with my iPod and my cell phone. I don't need anything fancy.

I want one, but for the same price I would rather have a PS3.

And Spyro99 it isn't just a phone with an Ipod, it is a computer.

Way too expensive, for something I wouldn't get that much use out of. I've got a phone for making calls, and maybe to take a photo or play a game if I'm feeling bored and away from home. That's all I need one for, and even that other stuff is just extra that I could go without easily.

I'm all about phones being phones. Never saw the point in getting a camera in my phone - because then I've just got two half-assed products smushed into one.

However...

The iPhone makes of hypocrit out of me, that thing looks mighty neat. Still, as PHW noted for herself - I too am a college student and can barely afford anything, not to mention a fancy phone; despite the fact that I already have a working one.

There's also the AT&T issue - I don't have em' and I don't want them. More-so after they merged with that crappy other company which gave us endless headaches when we had them prior to T-mobile.

If I didnt drop $220 on a Blackberry 8700 before its announcement, I would have held out.

Ah well... at least with the Blackberry I can go to different carriers easily (for now anyway).

I'm not getting one, due to barely being able to afford my DS. I do want one, since I really do need an mp3 player and a new phone, and this takes care of both.
Really, it's just more convenient and cheeper for me that way, as opposed to buying a new iPod and razor seprately.

Also, the commercials won me over. I find them to be very... soothing.

JesusPhone? Been waiting since January 9th.

I'm also a college student. I've already given my dad my 30 Gig 5G iPod, and my Cingular contract ran out in January. My phone's camera no longer works, and I've been using this POS for half a year in anticipation of signing that two-year contract for the iPhone.

I'll admit theres something of the iPhone that has an allure to it. I've always had to wait to get stuff. I wish I had the money to just go out and buy something like this but it won't ever happen.

What is it-- $500-$600? That for the device alone is absurd. I don't use my cellphone at all-- I'm not a phone talker. Dropping $500 for a phone just wont happen for me.

Since I rarely talk on the phone, I'm definitely not going to get an iPhone. However, I've been thinking about trying to get an iPod sometime in the future.

Its without a doubt a great device, but I really just need a basic phone and I wouldn't get a phone that limits the kind of service I can get. With normal phones you have the freedom to pick the service you want. The iPod part is nice since I actually don't have one yet (*ducks*), but as far as pictures go I'll get a good digital camera when I want to start taking and storing good photos.

In time it'll be cheaper and more versatile, and that'll be the time to pick one up.

Chad Bonin

Get a Zune.
Or, you know, just wait for the inevitable yearly update, or, hell, iPod 6 Gen.

Multi-touch, wi-fi... hell, it could just be an iPhone without EDGE or any of the AT&T services... and the Phone.

But, yeah, I guess he COULD get the bulky, outdated at launch, Microsoft Zune.

(Sorry, did a whole presentation a few semesters ago about all the faults with the Zune from a business standpoint).

Don't Get 'Hung up' On Buying An iPhone (http://www.nypost.com/seven/06262007/news/columnists/dont_get_hung_up_on_buying_an_iphone_columnists_glenn_fleishman.htm)

June 26, 2007 -- Tens of thousands of people are expected to line up this Friday for the most hyped gadget of the decade - the iPhone. Don't be one of them.

Oh, it's a technological marvel. But Apple's all-in-one handheld isn't the best cellphone - or even the best iPhone - that will be sold in the next year.

The iPhone crams so many different features into its slightly bulky form that it can only excel at one, and compromise on the rest. After spending some time, albeit briefly, with the iPhone, it's clear to me that Internet and e-mail are the parts that suffered.

The Web browser has fancy zoom and pan features that let you drag and pinch the screen with your fingers. The iPhone I tested performed those tasks well, and it's sexy to flick your digits instead of pressing too-tiny keys.

But the reality is that the iPhone has a very small screen compared to even the tiniest laptop. You can't read much of an article on a Web page without panning back and forth across. This is true of word-processing, too; at a size comfortable enough to read, you can't see either the full length or width of a document.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs was right when he said it's the best iPod the company has ever made. The screen quality is fantastic, and the movies pivot automatically as you rotate the phone.

But it's not an iPod. It's a $500 or $600 communicator that requires a two-year calling commitment. Monthly charges haven't been announced, but judging by comparable offerings from AT&T and other carriers, it should run you at least $50 per month in voice service and $40 per month in data service. That adds more than $2,000 to the iPhone's price tag over two years even before buying music or movies!

Consider also that Apple engineers already are hard at work on iPhone 2.0.

Modern cell networks use third-generation (3G) standards that are five to 20 times faster than that in the iPhone. Jobs said the chips to make a 3G iPhone weren't available when they designed the iPhone; but they are now, and are in some competitors' less-featured but faster phones.

It also skimps on storage. The $600 iPhone comes with 8 gigabytes of storage, enough for 2,000 songs or 16 episodes of "Heroes." A $250 video iPod can handle 7,500 songs or about 25 hours of movies.

You can bet that iPhone 2.0, probably available within the next year, will be faster and have more storage - probably for the same price.

Tech geeks and some business travelers will wait in line Friday (or pay someone else). You should wait for the next version.

I just learned from CNN Headline News that you can activate your iPhone and service through iTunes. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the future.

On another note, I want an iPhone. Sure, I don't talk that much (450 minutes with rollover cost $60/month), but I love the whole iPod integration, the full Safari web browser, and the touch screen. Now, only if the iPhone had Sprint's mobile broadband network (I have Nextel), I would get one eventually.

While it may be "rumor", it's many of the things that can easily, and logically, come to the OS. Hell, there's some digital evidence that ringtones will be available soon, if not Monday.

And you expect these upgrades to all be free? This is the same company that has a new OS upgrade every few years. Sure, some small ones might come around, but I highly doubt something incredibly significant is going to show up one day on your update screen.

Given that, since I got my Macbook around a year ago, I've not to pay for any of the OS upgrades...

EDIT- Although, yeah, ringtone creation is rumored to cost a buck, but that's a music industry thing.

Have you not been an Apple user for long or something? I've been with them for a while, and the fact is the OS upgrades come a little too fast when they don't bring much to the table. Panther was the best upgrade out of OS X, and Leopard isn't looking all that great when you break it down. Just because you don't buy the upgrade doesn't mean you don't get hosed... A lot of developers end up working on an OS X 10.X version of their app and all other versions get unsupported and stuck at an older version while people who did upgrade get to continue enjoying said product. And as for your Macbook specifically, of which I own the same revision, we bought them at a transition period between the next upgrade. You'd be a fool not to upgrade to Leopard merely because developers, and of course Apple, tend to stick their support onto the "latest and greatest."

Oh, hell yeah I'm buying Leopard. Already sorta got it on my phone...

But that's a general OS Megaupdate. What you were saying implied that, like, iChat would cost money to download to the iPhone.

Not single application updates like iChat, but I mean an entire overhaul. And those will certainly cost money. If the iPhone were $200 cheaper then I would probably think it's a better deal mainly because of the camera and the screen, but at its current price-point it's overpriced and lacking in features compared to other Windows Mobile devices. Or even Palm devices...

I don't even use a cellular phone at all. I've never needed to. All the other crap it has might be cool, but I don't travel much either. I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I had to have a computer, television, music or radio while I was out.
