View Full Version : Okay, I am now officially afraid of crows

Yeah, they never used to bother me, in fact I usually didn't think much of them until a couple weeks ago. Two of the crows aparently have nests with eggs, and they have gotten VERY territorial and protective of their trees. Everytime I go outside, these dang crows keep swooping down past my noggin (sometimes, merely inches away), ans squawking up a storm. Always makes me jump, and make me take cover under the nearest staircase. This is starting to happen everytime I go outside.
I wouldn't be turning so chickenfeed, but the thing is, the crows only seem to be going after ME! I've watched from my window, and have seen other people walking around the parking lot in the same places that I do, and the crows don't go after them! But when I go outside, they go after me for whatever reason.
Now, when I'm somewhere else, whether it be the local park, if I hear a crow caw I get really jumpy, and even the sight of a crow makes me nervous.
I realize a crow probably can't do much harm to me if it tried, but I'm still jittery about crows now.
What's weird is I've never witnessed crows being so protective of their trees up until now. I wonder what the deal is.

Meanwhile, I have an American Robin following me around the back yard begging for worms because my neighbor keeps feeding it bait. At first I thought it was going to attack me, but now I find it cute.

Something's up with crows, all right.
Two nights ago, about fifty crows gathered on our roof at about 5:30 in the morning and all began cawing loudly. That's never happened before, and they tried it again this morning at 7:30.
We did something to the crows and now they want revenge.

What do crows eat? Maybe you can carry some around with you and then chuck it a couple feet away to distract them while you make your getaway. Wait, you say they mostly eat garbage and carrion? Never mind then. (-:

I've been hearing an awful lot of Geese up here...me thinks the birds are getting organized. <.<

My advice to you woulld be either dont or do watch the birds by alfred hitchcock, it will either conquer your fear of them or make you even more scared of crows.
But my other alternative would be buying an air rifle.

Really? that is so cute, you're a momma [/lol] Actually, the books I've read, crows magpies and bluejays are tamable as pets if you imprint early enough. Crows are big and will be disconcerting, but when their babies move on, so will they. They really aren't likely to hit you as that would ruin their flight pattern and they'd fall to the ground. If you want to be proactive, find their nest and remove it or carry a tennis racket. otherwise just think of it as harmless fun.
I always liked the killdeers that pretended to have broken wings because I was too close to their nest. I'd find it then move on to make them happy. I didn't want to step on it accidentally.

I saw "The Birds" years ago. Good movie. Didn't make me afraid of birds at all. It helps that the bloody seagulls were obvious puppets.
But, it's a whole different experience when you get dive-bombed by the real thing. I still don't get what those damn crows have against me. I'm afraid to leave my house (well, actually I'm not, but I'm now frequently using my back porch to exit).

Hm. I'm creeped out by pigeons. Especially the more plump ones that make that "froo" sound, which I also find to be creepy.
I don't like being close to birds for some reason. I also don't like the idea of being in a room where a bird is flying around freely.

Birds just freak me out in general. Their sudden movements make me cringe and that beak looks lethal.
And crows are crazy and brave, they seem to know how to handle things no matter how dangerous it looks. I was actually driving home one day and saw a crow dive bomb a red tailed hawk that was standing around in the grass. It must have had a nest somewhere but man that hawk could have taken him down.
Perhaps you have a strange scent on you that they don't like or they could just be kicking you out of the house so they can take over.

Those crows that bother you, should kill them. Shouldn't be difficult and who would give you any problems.
Load thyself with a club or a paintball/potato gun next time they come to greet you.
I don't think all crows are like this, I was never attacked. These are bad ones.

They all must have watched "Chicken Run" this weekend.
It's kind of the opposite with the crows around my house. There are several Mockingbirds that live in or around my subdivision, and they seem to pretty much control the skies. I frequently see them fighting each other, or beating the pulp out of any crow dumb enough to go near them. The crows, being much bigger and slower than the mockingbirds, don't have a prayer. It looks like they're standing still while the mockingbirds circle around them and peck them until they leave.
The other day, my brother happened to look out the living room window and saw a gray squirrel walking along the neighbor's fence. He pointed it out to me, and, as soon as I looked out at it, a mockingbird dive-bombed it and knocked it off the fence.
While we're on the subject of birds, about six or seven years back, this ridiculously huge flock of blackbirds (which we have come to call "The Swarm") came past our house. My youngest brother, who was one or two at the time, referred to birds as 'bees'. He was playing in the living room one day, and suddenly looked out the window and screamed "BEE!" We looked out to see what he was yelling about, and saw (at least) a few dozen blackbirds fly over. We thought that was all, until we happened to look out a few minutes later to find that most of the sky had turned black. There is a large wildlife preserve across the street from our house, and what had to be thousands of birds were pouring out of the trees like smoke from a fire. It took them at least an hour to pass by. They were all over the ground too, eating all of the grass seed everyone had recently put down. Out of curiosity, we let our half-Siamese cat Darby out of the garage, where he usually lived, to see how he'd respond. He was terrifed. The second he saw the birds, he turned around and started trying to tear his way through the garage door. Unfortunately, The Swarm has has never come by since. I hope it does again someday, though.

Crows are evil bastards. Get them before they get you.

See, this is why i belive its good to have a BB Gun/Airsoft Gun. Hey, we gotta protect ourselves when worse comes to worse...

I have noticed recently that other residents near me have been getting pestered by these crows, so I'm glad I'm not the only one being annoyed. That would have really made me paranoid.
