Which pet do you prefer? I used to be a dog-lover, but cats have grown on me recently, due to my past abundance of pet cats, but I'm still going with both.

I love them both and would gladly have either one, but I'm a slightly bigger dog fan just because they're always more playful and willing to spend time with you more than cats do.

Yeah I love them both, but dogs are a lot more active than cats when it comes to running around a park.

Cat. Cats are awesome. I like dogs too, but I just wouldn't be able to take care of one properly. Taking it out for walks, paying lots and lots of attention to it etc., I'd either be too lazy or not have the time. Now a cat is perfectly happy to live indoors and be left to it's own devices most of the time, all you have to do is feed it sometimes, maybe play with it a little bit if it's in the mood, and it'll be happy.

I like dogs better because they actually listen to you

Well, I would say I prefer cats to dogs just because dogs usually tend to smell. I mean, sure if you wash your dog every day they'll smell okay, but so many people just have stinky dogs. I don't know how they can stand to live with something that smells so bad. At least cats don't usually smell bad. Well, their breath smells bad, but they usually keep their mouths closed.

Honestly, though, I really don't want any pets. Both animals shed, and even though you can potty train both animals, they still both have the occasional accident. I would just go crazy if I found a piece of pet crap on the floor. Besides, I'm allergic to both, cats moreso than dogs. Though, I don't want to choose I hate both, because I really hate neither. I like petting both when I'm around other people's pets, I just really wouldn't want to own either.

I've always preferred dogs to cats. I even have a pet dog.

I've always preferred dogs to cats because dogs are just so friendly and playful, but I've recently developed an allergy to cats so that's just another reason not to like them.

Dogs, by far. I like cats, but they are too aloof, and they make me sneeze.

I'd say dogs, since I've spent most of my life time with them. I do like cats as well. (Even if I am slightly allergic to them...)

I realize now how many people form a strong opinion of something because they're/are not allergic to it. There's nobody here who said they're allergic to dogs yet love dogs and hate cats, nor oposite. Yeah one is allergic to both but has a preference that's besides the point.

I don't have any allergies so I can make my opinion freely. Maybe if one of those made me sneeze I would come on the internet and say that I 'hate' those animals.

Ever since I was little, I loved cats. Dogs are nice and I do like them, but they have to be well behaved. I've been around dogs that were crazy friendly, jumping on you and not happy with anything but licking your face, and the opposite, so aggressive as to make me think "yea, you growl at me now, but I go get my gun and you'll wish you hadn't". Never met a cat I didn't like.

Well, I own seven dogs (two beagles and five bloodhounds) and somewhere in the vicinity of fifteen cats. It's been a while since I've been sure about that. They all live outside, as I'm allergic to them and my brother has asthma. They require virtually no work, so I mostly don't mind the cats, unless they have kittens. Which happens all-too frequently. When this happens, we bring them into the garage or basement, and put them in cages with litterboxes and newspaper. The problem is that we have what must be The World's Most Disgusting Cats, who are totally incapable of using a litterbox properly (or are simply too lazy to bother). I'll spare you the horriffic details, but suffice it to say that it makes taking care of them extremely unpleasant. And then we ususally end up keeping one or more of the kittens from each litter, which explains why we have so many cats. In conclusion, I don't mind them unless they're in the house, in which case I loathe them.

As for the dogs, I don't have any real problems with them. The beagles used to bark incessently at nothing, but are very gradually improving. The only one of our dogs that I really like, though, is the youngest bloodhound, Red. He's considerably smaller than the others, and much better behaved. I often take him for walks, and he generally does everything I tell him to and gives me no trouble.

If I had to pick a favorite, I'd go with dogs, specifically Red. A dog can be trained to do what you want it to, a cat can (mostly) only be tolerated or shot. (Yes, the 'shot' part was a joke.)

Fortunately, I have had the pleasure of raising both dogs and cats, and I must say that although I love both species, however, I find cats easier to raise.

I like both. Dogs are great because they'll just hang around next to you while your relaxing or guard you while your in the pool. Thats what my friends dog does, she'll also beg to play fetch while I'm in the pool which is cool too because its fun to get a tennis ball wet and then see it spray all over when it lands.

Cats are fun too but they get bored quickly you kind of have to make up games as you go along or they will ignore you after a while. Though their litterboxes do stink.

That's completely irresponsible. You're supposed to get your cats spayed or neutered so they don't have kittens. I realize it may seem cruel to force a kitten to have a part of its body removed, but by letting them have kittens you're contributing to the overpopulation of cats and more cats will end up getting put to death by pounds because of it.

As for the litterbox problem, you don't by any chance declaw your cats, do you? Also, how often do you clean their litterbox?

I definetly prefer cats to dogs - Dogs are just a wee bit too high maintenance for me. They constantly want to play and will often make noise when they're not getting that attention. You've got to take them for walks and give them baths and such...

Cats, or at least our cats, will sit or sleep on you when you're just chilling; rarely demand attention for us (sometimes more than others), and have learned to scratch at the door when they want to use the facilities which means no litterbox for us!

Sure they shed, but it's not that big a deal; and since they're cats they come with that deliciously evil personality which results on the occasional "You want me to come to you? HA!" look...but I think that's hilarious and adds to their already wonderful evilness.

No, we sell the kittens. That's why we have so many of them, we raise them and sell them to people. I just happen to find them annoying, is all.

As for the litterboxes, we change them at least twice a week. Some of the cats don't use them, not because they don't know how, just because they're clumsy. Several of the others spill the boxes everywhere.

Then let me be the first. I am horribly allergic to cats but love everything about them. Dogs don't bother my sinuses at all, but I could never enjoy owning one.

Playing with other people's dogs is nice if they're intelligent and well-behaved, but I much prefer the laid-back, free-thinking attitude of cats. They consider themselves our equals, and I have way more respect for that than the canine pack mentality.

Dogs most definitely. Cats are way too independent and unfriendly to me. I prefer my pet to be loyal and be my companion so a dog is most suited to me than a cat.

Given a choice, I'd have to say that I'm a cat person.

That's mostly because, from what I understand, they're easier to cook.

I love both. I currently have 2 cats and live in a 1 bedroom apartment. I do want to have dogs someday...but I refuse to get one when I live in such a small living space. They need room to run and play.
