I was surfing the net tonight and I came across an interesting article..basically summed up like this

Turner Broadcasting System Inc..the company that owns cartoon Network has purchased the GI JOE television broadcast rights..

Can anyone with any sources within CN verify this fact?

Toon Zone News will try to get this verified. We've heard rumors about this a few weeks back.

Sunbow produced both GI Joe and Transformers..could you also find out if there is any chance that they also purchased the television broadcast rights to the old G1 cartoons as well?

Considering the huge success that Image has had with the G.I. Joe comic, I wouldn't be surprised if TBS acquired the rights. G.I. Joe is Xer central, and now that we Xers actually have spare money to spend, this would be an ad magnet.

As for Transformers:G1, I couldn't imagine one without the other. Supposedly, Pat Lee's Dreamwave Productions has picked up the comic rights to the G1 characters. Since Hasbro has split the comic licenses, they might be willing to split broadcast licenses, too. Can't imagine who else might be interested, though...

BTW, is this just the broadcast rights? Or will TBS/CN get possible developmental rights as well? Anyone?

Oops. Wait. Hold that last thought of mine. "Transformers:Armada" is the next show in the pipeline for this fall, with animation less like Beast Wars and more in the style of the original show.

In other words, cheap. :D

Whoa...just yesterday me and couple of other guys were throwing the idea of putting the Transformers movie (which I own :D :D :D ) on to the In-Flight Movies section of Toonami, as well as the G.I. Joe movie. This...is very sweet.

Go Gen X-ers!
