Because the show isn't on CN's regular schedule.

It would have been the ideal time to give it a weekday slot but nope... Safe to say CN closed the book on TMNT. I'm personally hoping Toon Disney picks it up as soon as they can because I think it'd be great for Jetix.

I think TMNT might do well on Nick, if they gave it the Avatar treatment.

What do you mean "Avatar treatment"?
You mean replay it over and over until people get tired of watching?

Furthermore, hasn't Nickelodeon historically treated any show that they don't own or otherwise have a financial stake in like complete crap?

I know what you're talking about with the marathon, I watched some of it. It's a great series.
But as others said this was probably CN saying farewell to the show. I hope somebody does pick it up eventually. I think if CN aired the Lost Season I think it would give a minor boost to Miguzi's ratings and give the block a send-off.

If you want to enjoy some 2003 TMNT goodness then I highly recommend the Season 1 Part 1 set that should be available now.

The only reason they had a TMNT marathon awhile back was because that was when the new TMNT movie had just premiered and CN wanted to captalize on the movie coming out by showing some of the show that they still had the rights too. Thus airing a collection of episodes of something they really haven't aired for over a year. Unless they do it special for the DVD release of the TMNT Movie then we won't see the show on CN ever again. Kind of a shame really but hey at least they had the sense to air some of the better episodes of the run in the marathon. That's the best I can really say about it though, espically since it wasn't even promoted all that well.

From about 1982 until about the time Bob the Builder was cancelled, Nickelodeon actually treated shows they didn't own with some semblance of respect. Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, Spartacus, Noozles, Inspector Gadget, Heathcliff, David the Gnome, Li'l Bits, and a little show called You Can't Do That On Television were all treated with kid gloves at Nick.
Everything after Bob The Builder that they didn't own was treated abysmally.

Yeah, I wish the old Nick would come back for that reason alone, so there can be a wide variety of shows and maybe some anime on Nick as well right now.
I also wish that both the Teletoon and YTV brands were brought over to the USA, so that there can be a wide variety of children's TV outlets in the USA and maybe CN can also have some serious competition as well.

That would make no sense, given that a significant portion of YTV's programming is culled from Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney and the like. What purpose would such a network serve domestically, where all 3 and more are widely available?

Alright, what if there were a lot of shows that these 3 major children's TV networks never want to acquire at all or just lost the rights to sometime ago? That's why we need more children's TV outlets in the USA right now.

But you base that on the flawed assumption that a new network aimed towards a kid-centic demographic would automatically pick up that aforementioned other programming right away. Who says a new network wouldn't try and populate their lineup with new and exclusive programming instead?
Never mind that any such network would go on Satellite/Digital cable instead of basic cable.

It always puzzled my how 'TMNT' reruns never caught on that well on Cartoon Network, or why they never gave it a good time slot where you can see the episodes all week since it already has enough of them in the can.

I personally think it would be doable. Sure, YTV would lose all of its Nick programming, but it would be replaced by YTV's roster of original programming, plus a lot of cartoons, shows, and anime our networks don't have the rights to or lost the rights to. Who says that an American YTV wouldn't have the budget to purchase third-party replacements for the shows US networks have the rights to, anyway?
Back on topic: I'm a surprised as you are about the TMNT fiasco on CN. I really think it should have been more popular, but it never caught on at CN . . . or didn't receive the ratings necessary.

That would make no sense, given that a significant portion of YTV's programming is culled from Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney and the like. What purpose would such a network serve domestically, where all 3 and more are widely available?Truth be told, YTV could theoretically be formed here in the states without Nick and CN shows (and for the record, most of Disney's fare is seen on The Family Channel in Canada while a lot of Cartoon Network's properties, including the Canadian equivalent of Adult Swim [The Detour] are also seen on Teletoon).
They could take one of two routes:
1) Corus and Liberty Media could forge an alliance that would jettison the WAM brand with YTV and form a pseudo-premium digital children's network with limited to no commercial interruption, localized versions of YTV live programming, YTV original live-action programming, and utilizing the combined libraries of YTV, Nelvana, and Starz Media for live-action and animated programming.
2) KidsCo, the combined partnership of DiC, Nelvana/Corus, and Sparrowhawk Media, could launch a stand-alone digital and VOD channel with the YTV brand name stateside and utilize their combined libraries as well as continuing to acquire outside programming, as they're doing with their other network endeavors.
But back on topic. I find it frustrating that TMNT doesn't have quite the same love as a show like Pokemon does at Cartoon Network. The series didn't work on Miguzi because it was perceived to be girl-oriented. They didn't even try to place the series on the boy-oriented Toonami, where it could have (and should have) been a marquee series opening up the block every week.
TMNT should have been the North American series the block has been lacking since Justice League Unlimited's departure (and for the record, although Fantastic Four is of American origin, the series is a US/French co-production with most of the work done in France). It's an established franchise that has both the built-in audience and the quality not seen in other similar shows in recent years. Golly, I miss that show.

Indeed it should have been. It's exactly the American hero flavor Toonami needs right now. Given the block aired revivals on He-Man and Transformers and will probably play the new Transformers it makes no sense that CN never let TMNT get a shot on Toonami. But they've all but crushed my hopes and dreams of it ever joining Toonami so that's why I want it to join Jetix. They'd give it a good home.
I suppose making YTV wouldn't be too hard actually but perhaps the better choice would be Teletoon. It has far more exclusive series and we might finally have a teen animation venue. It would also let Teletoon not need Nick anymore.

TMNT probably would've been a good fit for Toonami. It probably takes the crown as the darkest Saturday-morning show ever made, and possibly the most violent one as well.
CN probably wanted it to be the marquee show on Miguzi, but Miguzi was mismarketed and/or lacked an identity. I had troubles distinguishing what the block was supposed to be. Was it supposed to be a kiddie Toonami or a girls' block? I couldn't really tell the difference.
It's a shame, really. Maybe Jetix will pick TMNT up (how they'll be able to negotiate with 4kids is another story). If Nick stops neglecting third-party cartoons and wants an action block (really big IFs here) maybe they'll take a look, too. But for now it'll rerun on the 4kids block as a little slice of half-hour Toonami on a kids' block, alongside its dumbed down (but still okay) counterpart Fast Forward.

I always thought that 'TMNT' should've been given a slot on Toonami alongside 'Teen Titans', and 'Justice League Unlimited'. Now there's 90 minutes of comic book action right there. Too bad that never happened. Oh well.

I think it was right before Karai showed up. I'd obviously never wake up that early on a Saturday, but I wouldn't mind giving my new DVD recorder a work out.

Oh, cool. But, uhhh...what season are these episodes from? I'm a little bit confused as to what order these episodes are in. I'm having a difficult time figuring out what episodes I need to watch. Oh, okay, the first episode is the one on the bottom, right? So, these are all first season episodes then? Is there any way to watch the other seasons?
No, wait, Membership Drive is on the bottom, and that isn't the first episode, is it? I thought Things Change was the first episode? It would be a lot easier if they numbered the episodes.

Batman:TASI don't know about that. TMNT had at least 2 murders partially shown. Bishop impaling himself on a hook. A creature cut in half by machine gunfire (with entrails spilling out). Not to mention, the amount of carnage during the "Hun on the Run" ep. BTAS simply alluded to murder (Bruce's parents, Tim's Dad). I'd say TMNT has BTAS beat in terms of graphic violence.

And yet people still treat it like it's inferior to the cheesy 80's cartoon and think TMNT can't be "mature". Sigh...
Batman: TAS is without question one of the best cartoons ever made (the whole DCAU basically is) but TMNT 2003 certainly was very bold. I wouldn't say it was darker than Batman neccessarily but well let's put it this way. TMNT has a banned episode. Batman doesn't.
