What were some things they said in Cartoon Network shows that made you practically fall out of your seat. The best examples I can think of is the menopause referance in Billy & Mandy and how they said "crap" in the dodgeball episode of Dexter.

At one point in time they played good anime on Toonami. Before it was moved to Adult Swim, and then disapeared for all time, alot of it had thing's like hell, crap, and damn randomly blurted out.
I miss those days...
I remember hearing the word "freakin'" a couple of times in Cartoon Cartoons.
Johnny Bravo- "Great freakin' toadstools!"
Dexter's Lab- "How many times have I told you to get out of my freakin' laboratory??"
Probably more, but these are the only cases I can recall.

Is freakin even really a bad word, or is it in the same league as crap?

I would think that to most people who are required to concern themselves with such distinctions as a matter of course (writers, network people, etc), the words on their own aren't particularly vulgar, but rather the noted vulgarities of which they are clear analogues and the associations with said vulgarities are what typically keps them out of the dialogue in children-aimed programming.

On the first episode of Duel Masters a 'hell' snuck through.
Yuyu Hakusho's had multiple instances where 'crap' snuck through as well.

On an episode of Code Lyoko when they were all in Jeremy's room after bringing Aelita back from Sector 5, Odd was telling Aelita that if Sissi ever "bothered her again, tell her to go to....." At that part he was gonna say "go to hell" right before Sissi interupted them.

Were you expecting him to have something else down there?

Why would they need to sneak through crap? It's not a dirty word.

Oh, IGPX had some. That show owned.

Yeah not only was it not "snuck" in but it was several times a repacement for "bull" (from the original line in the uncut version on DVD).

Yeah, just tonight: the Campl Lazlo Invaded ep. Sampson said something after the aliens got through with their folk music wigging out scene, but for the life of me, I can't remember what word he said that made me think "Can they say that on kids' TV?" Anyone else see it?

No doubt the word invokes certain connotations that wouldn't fly in a kids' show, but just the same, "fetish" is also defined as "an object of unreasonably excessive attention or reverence" or "an abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment; a fixation." It isn't that shocking.

I'm pretty sure they used "bull" a few times on Yu Yu Hakusho. On Rurouni Kenshin, Shishio said "Hell", which was surprising to me at the time.

On Cartoon Network in the UK, that line was cut from that episode, with the gym teacher just saying "What's this?" and the word "crap" being a single, silent mouth-flap. However, regardless of this, when CN UK (along with Warner Home Video) released a compilation of Dexter's Laboratory episodes on VHS in 2000, they kept the line in and I still remember to this day feeling absolutely shocked but at the same time in bursts of laughter because of that!
