500 years ago, Sir Aaron saved the kingdom of Rota when two opposing armies nearly destoyed it in a war. Now, a festival is held every year in honor of Sir Aaron's deed. After winning a tournament competition, Ash is selected to be this year's Aura Guardian. When a mysterious woman by the name of Kidd tracks down Mew, Mew disappears and takes an injured Pikachu and Meowth to the Tree of Beginning. At the same time, Lucario is set free from the staff Ash holds, mistaking Ash for Aaron. Lucario reveals that Aaron was no hero and abandoned the queen, along with trapping him in the staff. Now, Ash must rely on Lucario's help if he's to make it to the Tree of Beginning and find Pikachu. Kidd tags along too, only wanting to learn Mew's connection to the tree. However, their adventure will cause more damage than intended, and the truth of the events of 500 years ago will finally be revealed!

Notes
Originally released on DVD September 19th, 2006. First television airing ever. I think all the movies have been aired now. Note, this comes BEFORE Pokemon Ranger, even though it aired AFTER it.
Final thing ever produced with the 4Kids Voice Cast. Enjoy.Let's Begin!

I saw this a few months ago.

It's not your typical PKMN movie.

Also, Lucario is made of win.

Finally, the best Pokemon movie comes to CN. I've only watched my DVD once, so I'm looking forward to watching it again.

Did anyone spot any commercials for this broadcast? I didn't see any commercials anywhere.

Yes, there has been a promo airing all week long.

4Kids VA Verionica Talyor stars in this film, and it will be her last PKMN film... b/c this was the final 4Kids PKMN film production before Nintendo (The Pokemon Company USA) took over...
so far, so good....
BTW: is 4Kids VA Lisa Kaplan in this film (since i watch her work on 4KidsTV's various shows...)
Anyways, Enjoy The Film

Wow, looking at it now, Ash's new voice sounds a lot more like the Japanese version.
I remember them promising it would sound more like the "original", so it seems they delivered!

I like the Japanese song for the battle more.

Also, Lucario is made of win.Not only does that fact apply to the movie but the games as well. That's why I have one on my Pearl Team. Hard to believe he's not a Legendary like we all initially thought.

That must be the infamous Bons-LEE mispronouncitation I've heard about. Yeah Bonsly is definately better sounding in my opinion. Not to mention that the 4Kids actor can't do that voice too well.

Is the script accurate and the original music kept?

I think the script's pretty accurate, but from what I remember, Brock's last line was added in the dub, and Ash's last line looking at the painting was taken out.

Besides the Pokemon battle opening, and the ending theme, the original music's the same.

Well now that it's over, let me just say next to the 5th and maybe the 2nd, the 8th is one of my favorites.

Already have the dvd but still worth watching the tv premiere.
This is probably the only time I've seen pokemon decked out in battle armor, aside from Mewtwo wayback in movie 1. The tournament at the begining works better with the original Op but atleast the music is still catchy.

I absolutely loved this movie!:D My other favorite pokemon movies are Destiny Deoxys and Pokemon Heroes, the one with Latios and Latias I think. Lucario was the third talking pokemon I've seen throughout all the other movies. It made me cry when he died....:crying:

WOW!!!!!

This was amazing. By far, the best movie yet in my opinion.
The storyline kept you guessing by misleading you. That’s what makes a great movie.
I kept thinking that Kidd was bad, then good, then bad again, then finally good.

The only thing holding me back was the fact, again, that they showed the movie out of order.

Despite all the confusion, it was all cleared up the second time I watched it.

Great movie.

Lucario and the Mystery of Mew- 11/10!

Edit: Is it just me, or did anyone else think of Brandon during this movie?

Well, there are two kinds of talking pokemon. The more common kind are the pokemon that talk psychicly. In the anime, if a pokemon learns Psychic attack it'll be able to talk this way. MewTwo, Lugia, Jirachi, and Lucario all talk this way, as well as Lapras from the Christmas episode.

Then there are the pokemon who talk physically. I.E. they use their mouths. Everyone knows Meowth, of course, who lost some of his ability to learn attacks in order to learn how to talk. SlowKing and I think Manaphy talk this way as well. An early episode had a Gastly that talked with its mouth, but the rules weren't well set in the earliest eps and so I don't count that.

Oh, in the Third movie, "Entei" was actually an imaginary character created by the Unowns.

They've credited the Japanese staff from the very, very beginning of the dub. As in, when the episodes were first run in syndication, the Japanese staff was in the credits.

Well, if you want to be technical, most of the Japanese staff wasn't credited in the TV dub of Destiny Deoxys.

I suppose, but isn't that more due to Kids WB!'s squished credits than anything else? Guarantee if you pop the DVD in and watch the credits, you'll see the Japanese staff in there.

More like shortened. KWB showed the Dub Crew credits then cut off the rest. The DVD does have the full credits, but not the TV dub.

I always liked the credits during the first three dubs, since some of the credits were for things not used in the dub, such as crediting Shinji Miyazaki with music even though no Japanese music was used during those dubs.

Personally after PKMN 2, the PKMN movies have become to *yawns* for me. They do the same thing in every movie....Ash fights against a pkmn, ends up winning and off he goes to go find pkmn league (Jeez, has he even won the PKMN league yet?) They break the fourth wall too much, instead of The TEAM Rocket being shoot into the air tryin' kidnap PKMN...they should be own ash's team, and nothing has really changed in movies except new PKMN! (IS the even a qouta on how many pkmn's there's now?)

Duke
05-17-2007, 01:25 PM
Umm, Ash has NEVER defeated a Legendary Pokémon. Unless you count knocking Celebi back to normal in Movie 4 and turning the machine on in Movie 6. The only time Ash ever actually wins a battle in the movies is during the opening credit sequence.

Only Team Rocket breaks the fourth wall, and it's not like they don't do it every other episode in the series...

So I bought the dvd for this the other day and it was actually pretty decent. Really got me back into the series, my take on it had been less than great ever since the new cast.

However, the master of mirage pokemon special that comes double with it, sucks hard. I realize (if i'm correct) that it is the first project that was done by the new voice cast, so, maybe they got better, but, it was just terrible.

Dear God.

Anyways, Lucario much made up for the suckiness of the special, which btw, did anyone else seem to think that the Master special had some very poor animation in spots? Seriously, Mew looked deformed half the time. ANd dear god the opening and ending themes for it sucked. Please tell me that they don't use that opening for Diamond and Pearl TV.

The animation was done by a separate studio than OLM, the people who usually do the Pokémon series/movies. That's why the animation is so different and everybody's off-model.

While the opening theme isn't used in the series at all, the Mirage ending theme is used as the ending theme for the series as well. There's been two openings so far for PUSA's dub, "Battle Frontier" for...Battle Frontier, and "DP Rap" (or whatever it's called) for Diamond and Pearl.

I think Lucario was a very decent Pokémon movie. To me, it seems like the best, probably because of the action. The effects are great, but sometimes, it seems a little much. I think Team Rocket was great, as usual. The plot was all right, and I think it had a little more action than any other Pokémon movie. All in all, Lucario and the Mystery of Mew was a pretty good movie.
As for The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon, it would have been good, if it had the older voice actors. Misty sounds all right, but May, Max, Ash, and Brock sound terrible.

Personally, I think Movie 3 has more action than Movie 8. Heck, I think Charizard vs. Entei is more action-packed than all of Movie 8, since Lucario nor Ash had any real extended battles with anyone.

Actually, what you saw was the REDUB of MoMP. I suggest you never see the original version, which was the cast's first dub. You'll have a coronary.

Definitely. That battle still remains my favorite battle in the entire anime franchise. Unfortunately, my Pokemon movie watching experience has been affected due to that fight scene, because watching every movie thereafter I try to compare the action scenes to that one, and they never measure up. I suppose I shouldn't be doing that, but eh... :\

Anyway, I enjoy movie 8. It's certainly nice to have a talking Pokemon that isn't cutesy, something we haven't seen since movie 3...

See, there I go again! >_<

I just don't think 2 Pokemon jumping around using the same attack is cool. Heck I think the battles fought in the Hoenn league were cooler.
