View Full Version : Baby Blues

Throughout the last week or so, I have heard about how terrible the "Baby Blues" cartoon. I feel that the biggest problem with it is that the humor in the show is different than the humor in the comic strip. In the three episodes I have seen, they only have one kid (Zoe). In the strip, the have two (Zoe and Hammie), with a third on the way. Whereas the comic relies on Zoe and Hammie for the bulk of it's jokes, the show relies on their stupid neighbor Rodney and marital problems. The comic comes off as parody of such "family comics" like senoir citizen favorites "Family Circus" and "Hi and Lois". The show comes off as just another cookie cutter sitcom, which just happens to be animated. If the show was actually like the comic, we'd be a whole lot happier.

i happen to love this series but i agree it would be better if zoe was older and hammie was there
I think the comic strip started out like the show is now... but i'm not too sure...

1st of all, I didn't know this was a comic strip but i'm not surprised because the worst jokes in the world can be found in newspaper comic strips.
Secondly, this cartoon is god-awful and I pray for it's quick death. And I get a few chuckles out of Home Movies but mostly I fast forward through it. Thank you Tivo!

What is this? "The Baby Blues is Evil" thread? I think it's not that bad.

By supporting Tivo, you support the death of Adult Swim.
THEREFORE, YOU MUST DIE.
........eh, I'm just joshin' ya.
You still support the death of Adult Swim.
..but I won't kill you.
I already know when you die.
It's not pretty.

I think I'm missing an important leap of logic but how does supporting Tivo support the death of Adult Swim?
Just curious since I'm in the market for one and Adult Swim is one of the reasons I'm looking at one

Because Tivo skips over the advertisements when it records shows, thus causing advertisement revenue to cheapen, much like you see on the internet these days as people programmed pop-up killers and javascript code to remove banners.
You may not think it matters but it does. Especially because most of the people that get Tivo are the ones that have Neilson boxes already..

If I remember right Tivo records the commercials but a button on the remote lets you skip ahead 30 seconds quickly. I'm not a Neilsen (sp?) family and I'm thinking of getting a Tivo so I don't know how much overlap there is.
Just checked Tivo's site and here's the FAQ about commercials:
Does TiVo allow me to fast forward through commercials?
The TiVo remote control has three-speeds of fast forward and rewind that enable you to easily skim through any program you've recorded at 3,18, or 60x normal speeds. You can speed through 1 hour of programming in about 1 minute

I like Baby Blues. I like the humor. I espeically like the theme song. Is there something wrong with me?

I don't think so. Different strokes for different folks. And I think the reason some people like the theme song is because they didn't get exposed to it (or is that over exposed to it). Honestly, when that song was a "hit" you could not turn on the radio without hearing it. That makes people get sick of a song real fast.

No, but there is something wrong with the show.

Well actually I hear the song all the time, it's on my jukebox. Maybe because i like the group?
Also i really liek the show, and it got me interested in the strip which I am liking also.

Somehow I think it's different when you're the one chosing to listen to it all the time at your own free will and volition. It's another thing entirely when a radio station forces it upon you against your will. There have been many a song I loved at first but grew to despise because the radio stations never knew when enough was enough.

I think i actually know the feeling you speak of, i get it when i put the jukebox on randomizer and it starts playing stuff from a few months ago. I get so frustrated i delete the song. The i put it back on the playlist a few months later as brand new

I thought the episode where Wanda kept injuring Zoe was hilarious... The rest have kinda left me cold, though. I still check it out on occasion, and it's kinda funny, but I don't find it as entertaining as Home Movies or ATHF.

I guess the different strokes thing is true, because I hate ATHF, and I've just gotten around to likeing Home Movies.

btw does anybody know if there are going to be new episodes of Baby Blues in the future? Possibly another season or two? I would love to see Hammie brought into the mix.
