I will be putting up more reviews once I get screencaps of the episodes that aired last week, so don't worry. I have them on tape, so it shouldn't take long.
And I knew the Patriots would win. The Patriots died 100 years ago.

Great episode all around. Except for Walter and Perry...not funny at all, just disturbing. Melissa and Jason's interactions were hilarious, especially the bit about the m+m's being his babies. I love McGuirk. Besides the beer at the party, I loved how he took care of Fenton. A.

I'm still laughing, this is easily the best episode of the new season.
The entire thing was hilarious, this episode definatly ranks up there as one of the best.

Wow, I been kinda busy lately so I haven't been able to see any of the new episodes of Home Movies. After watching the Critic's online episodes I've become a fan of flash animation, not to mention any thing in flash Matt Wilson created. It was very funny, it made me laugh a lot of times, something Home Movie's never pulled off that much. McGuirk is the man, but he's also voiced by one of my favorite VA's Just sound's so realistic, like Stu on Rugrats.
And about the Patriots, I could have made $50 today, cause I was rootin for em and my friend offered me a bet, damn me, I could have had FFX. Oh well, back to GTA3.

"The Party" - In comparison to last week's episode, this was so-so.
Hits-
-The Crouching Tiger spoof in the beginning, where Jason was clinging to Brendon.
-McGuirk's entrance into Fenton's party, the brew made the bit complete.
-Melissa calling Jason a cab, then Jason returning.
-Brendon's Harpo Marx references.
-The entire plot revolving around the party.
-McGuirk's lecture to Fenton.
Misses-
-Brendon's birthday suit routine.
-Fenton.
-Trudy and McGuirk.
-Lots of the side characters' dialogues. The scene in the kitchen with Fenton, Trudy, and the two hugging kids was so annoying, I nearly changed the channel for a second.
Total grade: B, not the greatest, however the good out weighs the bad. "Honk honk."

Amazing. I'm convinced I might have just witnessed the singular best episode of this series. Be forewarned, this is going to be a long review; there was a LOT that was done right this time around (In fact, I'm only listing good points- I can't think of anything that was so wrong with this episode that it should be mentioned).
This is what a rocked about "The Party" (Spoilers):
-The Opening Movie- a Crouching Tiger spoof, it was really funny. Looking over this and the Jazz fight from Hiatus, with their costumes and lighting, I think we can all agree that Brendan has progressed a lot from "Dark Side of the Law"
-Josie. She's alive and eating. Thank God.
-Walter and Perry. Some might find them annoying but I think they're a great addition to the series. Their interactions are hilarious- stemming no doubt from the improv technique, they play great off of each other. The romance angle between the two is hilarious. For two background characters who don't get a bunch of screentime, they do a nice job of adding a few laughs.
-Jason's candy problem. This thinly veiled metaphor for a drug problem was so gut-bustingly funny it's unbelievable. It was so cliched (purposefully) that it was great. Seeing Jason begging for just "One More Gummy Bear" was awesome. His talks with Melissa were good too, as well as, I belive, being the first Home Movies character to utter b***ch (Do I have to censor myself on an AS board), leading into....
-Mellisa's increased amount of screentime. She played really well off of both Jason and Brendan, be it talking about the movie or begging Jason to stop his bad habits. Further cementing my theory that she's a great character.
-McGuirk. 'Nuff Said, y'know? Having him barge into the party with beer was so random and unexpected. Even better, McGuirk (With Brendan's re-inforcement) finally showed some backbone, yelling down that snobby punk just as he deserved, and getting the partygoers the apology they deserved.
-The Annoying Kid (Already forgotten his name). He was great because he was SUPPPOSED to be irratating. Watching him get his commupannce was suitably satisfying.
-Voice acting. I know I'm being random here, but I'd like to give the Home Movies cast props. They render the characters with just the right timing and emotion. Home Movies would be a pale shadow of what it is without such a great cast.
-The Ending. Pure and simple, this ending was great. The strength of Flash is really showing itself here, because the ending had the first shot ever in Home Movies to take my breath away. Up until this point, the animation has been a means to end, but that lost shot, cornball it might sound, was beautiful. First showing Walter and Perry walking away, shadows moving across their faces, to having Brendan, Melissa, and Jason strolling into an awesome sunset was one hell of an ending. Their dialogue here was great as well. Having them walk into the sunset talking about their next movie would have been a great way to end the whole series. Their was development here, actual growth, and it was really sweet, in a way. It proved to me that Home Movies and its central characters were deeper then I first gave them credit for. This was all complemented by a superb musical track, "Sunset Theme".
What really made this episode was the character interaction. Be it Walt off Perry, Jason off Melissa, Brendan off McGuirk, it was the dialogue that made this episode worth watching. All great shows have one thing in common, and that's characters. They're important to any good piece of work, and Soup2Nuts knows it. This whole episode was, more or less, the "Ballad of Fallen Angels" of Home Movies- everything was that spot on. I think it's clear, at the very least, that Home Movies has come a long from "Get Away From My Mom". I'm gonna watch it again Thursday, it's just so well-done. If Home Movies had ended here, I would have died a happy man. And that's saying something.

This episode has a lot of awkward humor here and there -- Jason gets "drunk" but eating a lot of candy, and in a rather uncomfortable moment, he tries to kiss Melissa, er, "drunkenely." But the fact is that it's all funny. The awkwardness evokes laughter. "The Party" is about a party (surprised?) where Brendon, Melissa, Jason, practically the whole soccer team, and Coach McGuirk (eventually) go to a birthday party of Fenton Mewler, another student at their school. You have to laugh when Fenton's mom continually says "Video-film" and vice versa. You also have to laugh when Jason gets shoved in a cab while on a sugar high (or down). Brendon gets good jokes in; Paula does as well. She wasn't used to great effect like she could of been, but whenever she was on screen, it was time of value. This episode was probably the most "adult" episode of Home Movies so far -- Coach McGuirk brings beer to the kid's birthday party; Jason actually says a bad word; and Jason acts drunk (did I say this yet?). But we got to know all of the characters more, and in the end, you realize that this little party will probably be a good memory of our favorite characters -- Jason, Melissa, and Brendon -- as they grow up. It was a good episode, handled in a gentle and actually caring way. It ended, what can I say... perfectly. Grade: A

I give it an A. I thought it was great when Jason called Melissa a Rich ***** and then said "help me!". I am glad I wasnt the only one worried about Josie, she seems to have developed a few new skills as well.

A good episode, but didn't quite reach the bar that Home Movies has set in the past few episodes. Side stories from the main plot involving people like Walter and Perry were done horribly, and seemed to drag on. I liked Brendan's birthday videos and Jason's addiction to candy, with Melissa only trying to help. I jumped with surprise, but laughed quickly after when Jason commented on Melissa's "Rich B***h" outfit. Invlovement from the regular main characters saved this episode from being a total disaster. I give it a B-.

This was one of the best episodes this season. Anything where McGurk sets things right in the end is okay by me. Highlights: the opening movie, Jason's struggle against sugar addiction, Fenton as the stereotype of an only child (trust me, I know this one), and McGurk single-handedly saving the party. The hugging kids are okay, but only in small doses--the kitchen scene was a little tedious. Overall, though, excellent. A

By far my favorite of the new season. Brendan learns a lesson in staying true to his original vision when commissioned to make a birthday video for the (appropriately named) Fenton Mewly. The kid is a rude, obnoxious, hateful, selfish, abusive little a-hole. Brendan feels guilty because his mother is such a sweet woam and he wants to make Fenton look good for her sake, so he puts off playing the tape at the party, insisting it needs reediting. However, after observing him mistreating the guests, he decides not to sugarcoat it--he might have even edited it to be even more scathing.
Wow! McGirk stands up to the little monster. Oddly enough, he might make a great father figure--if you can forgive him bringing beer to a kid's party. Watch him make goo-goo eyes at Trudy Mewly--think she'll be in any more eps this season? She might be good for the coach.
Jason eating too much candy and behaving like an alcoholic--insisting he can stop whenever he wants, passing out, making a pass at Melissa--was hilarious. But how'd he get back to the party after Melissa shoved him into a cab?
Those two gay Jewish kids, Walter and Perry, creep me out. I swear they get scarier every week.
Fenton is eight? He looked about thirteen to me. Trudy must be a very weak woman to let him boss her around--I was hoping, with McGirk's help, she'd sprout a backbone and slap his head backwards.
Also loved the walking-into-the-sunset ending, and Jason's movie pitch. "Why does everything bad alsways happen to me?" "Because it's funnier when it happens to the girl." Anyone else worry a bit about Jas when he said that?
I'd have to say that this was my favorite Home Movies episode so far, tied with last weeks. :)
As an only child myself - Fenton Mewley is the stereotype of EVERYTHING I DESPISE so it was good to see the little snotwad get his just desserts from McGuirk :)
I actually thought the ending was very good and poignant too. Not all endings have to be silly.
The kitchen scene with Walter and Perry however was FRIGHTENING :D Youre right - they DO get scarier by every episode :D
Oveall I give it an A
Only one more episode until "Dad"....

The episode was great.
The Crouching tiger opening as perfect even before Melissa kicked Brendon below hte belt.
"Melissa I need to you jump hihg in this next scene"
"How high"
"18 feet"
(Sorry if it's not hte exact wording so sue me I forgot)
The birthday party was pretty funny but Walter and Perry oh dear god those kids are fruits (And I use the term very liberaly) but don' forget they are just very young kids and they don't know what they are saying and what some people think of it in the real world.
All in all A episode with a C- going to the parts with Walter and Perry

That episode was GREAT.. I have nothing to say.. I think the ending would of better if they would of had McGirk having Sex with fenton's Mom.... I mean atleast thats what I expected but HM did the opposite i have to commend them for that.
This was an all around A-Plus Episode..and i'm definetly taping it...Thursday...

Ah, Home Sweet Movies. I remember when I first heard of a new show from the creators of "Dr. Katz" (and anyone else watch "Science Court"?) I was v. excited, especially after hearing that H.J. Benjamin was in tow. I taped all the episodes I could until the Lowest Common Denominator factor kicked in and the show was canned. Grim times followed. For awhile I looked for tapes of eps I'd missed to no avail. And then it was back (w/o me hearing about Adult Swim for a month or two [don't have cable]), and they were making new episodes. Oh frubjous day! I am v. glad this show exists. The humor is right up my alley. Now on to this week: Always glad to see it, but I have a few criticisms on it. 1. I realize the adults getting drunk is an ongoing theme, but if they use it every week it becomes obvious and an easy laff (which I consider them to be above). They already had the Jason substance abuse subplot, so McGuirk bringing the beer was a li'l overkill (tho still hilarious in depicting his utter tactlessness). 2. Walter & Perry: Great kids, but I fear they'll suffer from Ralph Wiggum Syndrome (beloved supporting character used more to less effect, becoming a poor caricature of itself [can a 'toon do that?]). Keep these two fresh. Them playing w/ Jason in "Hiatus" was priceless. Not so much with this ep. I don't find them controversial as some seem to. They're innocents, if you're creeped out by them it's all you. 3. I thot Melissa deserved better treatment. The "rich byotch" comment was pretty rough, as well as in the end w/ the diff. ways she could die on film. Glad she had more screen time tho. Anywho, sorry for the grand entrance. This show is a rare gem IMHO. T.T.F.F'N.N.
yeah I felt this was the best season 2 episode.I didn't even get to enjoy it as much I was still excited over the superbowl.

[COLOR=orange] Awsome show. But,that kid (I forgot his name :( ) Just had to complain about the color of the corn chips. Jason eating all that candy...probably more fat then Carl (from the ATHF) BRENDON HAD TO DO THAT VIDEO! That vid was so funny (1st version of the movie) He had nothing on! The homeade "Cencored" magiggy was pure genius! And Clever.[COLOR=orange]

This was my favourite from the earlier half of the second season. Glad you liked Walter & Perry - I think they're hilarious. Their relationship builds to a wonderful "climax" at the end of the season :) Shame other folks on the board find them annoying. Hopefully they grow to love them as I do

If they were to make the characters older every season and the show went on for about ten years, what would Walter and Perry be like?O_o
Oh yeah, this was THE best season 2 episode yet! Can't wait for Dad episode.

After last week's unpleasantness, the show has returned to greener pastures.
Brendon's attempt at a film about Fenton the first time was a riot. IMO, this is perhaps the best episode with McGuirk. I almost died laughing when he showed up at the party with beer and I cheered when he yelled at Fenton. What a jerk. The bits with Melissa and Jason were also good; sure Jason is still psycho, but it's a funny kind of psychosis. The only parts I disliked were the bits with those creepy kids. In this one episode, they have worn out their welcome with me.
Also, just how did Jason get back from that cab ride so quickly?
Grade: A-

I was wondering how Jason got back myself.
How could this episode not be awesome it has lines like:
Then Melissa can jump off the telphone line on to a helicopter and get chopped in half.

This episode was way better than last weeks. I liked the annoying kid Fenton at first, but then he just got annoying. But since Mcgurk came in to save the daY, I'm happy. This is my second favorite episode with the first being the episode with Mcqurk in Mexico.

I just noticed that I didn't give a grade for it. A- (the ninja opening was great;a good laugh from watching the very disappointing Mission Impossible 2).
That was probably one of the best Home Movies yet! :D
Jolly Jeepers, ain't it great?

you guys got it all. A from me. the only thing that kept it from A+ Was walter and perry. i couldnt stand the kitchen scene. When i watched it again (From my tape) I had to turn around because of how horribly tedious it was, but all in all it was a great episode. Coach Mcgurk had the funniest parts and the brendon/melissa scenes were the funniest.

Easily one of (if not "the") best Home Movies episode. I missed the 1st few min but it was hilarious!!! Since there were no real bad parts i'll just point out the good ones...
Jason's addiction and bender-like after math for soda and candy. I especially liked..."No, Melissa! They're staring at you and your rich ***** dress!" and "I want the old Jason back!"
McGuirk; whenever he was in this episode it was memorable. Especially the invite, when he kicked the door open with the beer ("Jolly jeepers! This sucks.") and his discipling Fenton (typo?).
Brendon's video. Perfect momentum for the birthday suit censor and the honking was great.
Fenton was pretty good too as we all know a Fenton in our lives.
My favorite episode beating out "The Art of the Sucker Punch".

I wasn't crazy about this episode, simply because it focused too much on Fenton and his mother. Okay, so they're disfunctional, get over it. Also, I agree that Walter and Perry are becoming annoying. I liked them when they appeared in The Art of the Suckerpunch, but they don't have enough depth to be truly comic characters. The final word: Bo-oring.

Actually, after a second viewing, this episode kind of grows on you ...
