It can be done! I just had my cable taken out this week (something about not paying my cable bill lately), but I can still get Cartoon Network (as well as E!) with an indoor TV antenna (an amplified one), and a plastic wastepaper basket. The reception may not be crystal-clear, and there's a little noise, but I was still able to watch my favorite 'toons.
I can also get a few stations on UHF, like a WB affiliate (don't know if it's Binghamton or Wilkes-Barre), two PBS stations, two Fox stations, an NBC station, and a CBS station, either from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton or Binghamton.
Has anyone ever tried this?

Monticello, eh? Been there, done that (just kidding, I love the Catskills! although Callicoon leaves a bit to be desired). And let's just say that Unnamed Sources Out Here tell me that in certain apartment buildings when the wind is right, you can do the same trick to get HBO. Just don't try that at any hour when all your neighbors are awake!
As for your WB and CBS stations, with your neighboring mountains and valleys as they are, I'd wager on Scranton for either or both (but I'd probably be more successful in this year's office Super Bowl pool).
