Psalms of Planets: Eureka Seven

Episode: 46

TV Rating: TV – 14 (on ASF)

Last time: Dominic and Jurgens decided to join Gekkostate after finding out the truth behind Dewey’s methods. Eureka pulling away from Renton and her kids caused Renton to bash his arm open with a rock, showing his devotion for her. Maurice on the other hand planned to do away with Renton believing he was keeping his mother away from him. All confusion was abolished when Eureka stated that she can love everyone the same amount! (:= Sadly, the happiness was destroyed when Renton passed out due to unknown reasons. ):=

Tonight: We find out the reason Renton passed out, What the Eureka groups’ next move is, and what the next move is of the Gekkostate? Will Dewey take this lying down or does he have a master plan waiting in the wings?

There are people in this world who are soldiers
There are sages and lifters and then
There are those who eat up propaganda
But I’ve never been one of them.

I’m a pious Vodarac
And have been since I first came to form
And with me, due respect for Coralions
Has since time began been the norm.

They don’t have to be sentient bipeds
They don’t have to have a big brain
They don’t have to be large amoebas
We love them the moment they came
Because…

Every scub is sacred
Every scub is great
If a scub is wasted
The planet gets irate

Every scub is sacred
Every scub is great
If a scub is wasted
The planet gets irate

Let Sir Dewey spill their
Fluids on the ground
He will surely pay for
Each scub that can’t be found.

Every scub is sacred
Every scub is good
Welcome teal-haired sisters
To your neighborhood

Dewey wants to smear their
Entrails everywhere
But we love those who treat their
Coralions with more care.

Every scub is sacred
Every scub is great
If a scub is wasted
The planet gets irate

Every scub is sacred
Every scub is good
Welcome strange-haired sisters
To your neighborhood

Every scub is awesome
Every scub is cool
Don’t blow them to pieces
That’s just bloody cruel.

Let the armies snuff them
On mountain, hill and plain
Antibodies smite them for
Scubs that die in vain.

Every scub is sacred
Every scub is good
Welcome strange-haired sisters
To your neighborhood

Every scub is sacred
Every scub is great
If a scub is wasted
The planet gets iraaaaaaaaate!

Just watched it on the Fix. I'm liking the butterfly Eureka (I think I see bone through her arm now) as the group-on-Earth plot finally becomes the focal point as the Gekkostate and Jurgen's forces have some down time before the final battle.

And, for the record, Dewey is still a ******bag. Once the battle begins, he may be upgraded to full-fleged a***ole.

This is what they call "The Last Transistion". It's when EVERYTHING that has been building up finishes it's topward acension and dives down, letting everything go and delving into the final episodes without fear, knowing that it will be able to answer everything or else not bother have risked it at all. Or it won't and blow up in everyone's face. Whatever it is makes at least the journey to this point interesting. Renton finally recovering from his self inflicted pain and Eureka growing wings and her arm finished glowing. It's a sign that they've put they're troubles behind them and now (as a family) are ready to move onto the place they need to go. And the one giving them answers is one of the most questionable characters in teh series it seems: Renton's older sister Diane. (It's been said his convos and messags to her over the eps pay off. Guess that's true). On the other hand everyone else gets ready for the big conflict. The miltary vs the rebel faction and Gekko state. Nothing really that interesting as it is build up but I did like Holland and Talho's scene about Talho telling him to worry about what happens later and focus on the now as well as Dominque standing firm his believe in Anenonme being able to forgive him for what he's done. Hope things go well for them. For now though this episode did well. It makes expecations high for the final four but hopefully with some more of the boring scenes out of the way we can get into the more nitty gritty next time around.

Thanks for the opening/ending links BTW Cloud. I wonder if it's too much to hope that Eureka Seven is the last anime to get it's intro shortened when airing on AS (well technically Trinity Blood is but I mean you know when the show ends wise).

My thoughts on the episode:

Love butterfly Eureka. :anime:
Hope Dewey dies a very painful death.
Eureka's wings didn't look solidified. More like Cartilage.
My sister gave a very funny line of the night: "She's a butterfly? Call me in when she grows antennas!" LOL

Next episode looks pretty fun.

I'm noticing that this show doesn't bother with the "OMG! Plot-twist!" and just decides to take it casually. I mean, his sister shows up and next episode looks like she's going to explain things at a leisurely pace.

Very nice C&C post Cloud, and I love seeing the op and ed links (I've seen them, but its nice to see them made available).

Every time I see this ep I just have to give two thumbs up to Renton for his perfect response to the butterfly look (its like redemption and then some for the bad makeup reaction ~10ish episodes ago). Now theres a young man who apparently has no problem at all with the concept of cross species love, even past the point of needing a standard humanoid body figure. "Wings? Hell yeah, that just makes you hotter!"

After watching this theme song being played so many times.
I just noticed that the opening theme has very little resemblense to the show itself, and is it American song that is playing in the background not Japanese.

Can someone please explain to me the meaning of Cherry Blossom? I know that it connects with love, and the series itself deals with love. First there is love between Renton and Eureka, then Dominic and Anemone, Holand and Talho, Charles and Ray.
Is there any other group that I have left out?
The closing theme shows Renton and his sister when they were young, or is it Dominic (at least I think that the little girl is his sister, she could be Maeter.) There hardly was any episodes focusing on Diane when she was little or when Renton, especially Dominic was little. Why show them in the closing dialogue (theme song)?
To confuse viewers?

I wonder if there is a hidden message between all the opening and closing songs on Eureka Seven as well as other Japanese shows like FMA?

I not surprzied that the Gekko State and Dewey's army are not getting along. Looks like Talho is smart by trying to fix that.
It's nice to see Eureka's kids behaving, and all of them working together to try to make Renton feel better. :anime: The oldest one of them remembers that she was the one that killed all of their parents, but the kids still love her because Eureka was the one taking care of the them, no matter what she did she's still their adoptive mother, the only mother Linck and Maeter possibly remember.. Yes it was wrong of Eureka to do what she did, but she can't bring those people she killed back. :(
What's operation Nenokatasu?
Does Dewey know that his men are joined up with the Gekko?
Holand questioning himself if it was right to kill Charles and later Ray.
Dominic definetly needs to put Anemone's pet on a diet.
Eureka is cute with those wings.
She is just like a Butterfly or a Fairy! :D
So Eureka is changing back into her corrallian form?
Renton and the kids love Eureka. It's what on the inside of you that matters anyway. Except, I never saw Renton and Eureka kissing each other.
Looks like Nirvash is feeling better too.
Anemone is being forced into this battle, right?
Are Gekko state going to try to re-program Eureka by using that disc/cd?
Renton sees his sister a the end. Looks like she didn't die, but was left here on Earth, maybe Renton's father is here too.
I'm looking forward to Renton's reunion and introduction of Eureka to his family, or at least his sister! ;)

The theme songs are also in super high quality on the Toonami Digital Arsenal's sister site, http://asfdotcom.net/ . The song Sakura (Cherry Blossom) samples for its background music is none other than the church hymn "Amazing Grace", complete with wicked sounding choirt vocals. My fav opening out of the four.

Ahh. Nice post with the full versions of "sakura" and "Canvas". I personally love both, though "sakura" is definitely my favorite out of the openings while "Canvas" rates second behind "Tip Taps Tip".

Either way, good episode building up to the final episodes. Can't wait can't wait.

Dominic is such a pretty boy. I love it.:anime:
Yet, at the same time i'm feeling sad for Holland and the pain he must be going through. Renton as well.
-->
Eureka's wings really are amazing. I was almost wondering if the scene where they bursted out would be like Haibane Renmei, though there was deffinatly not as much blood, or any compared to Haibane.
Some one find Dewy a friend his OWN age. Hanging with little children cannot be good for his health.

Kitschensyngk
03-25-2007, 01:28 AM
Izumo and Gekko just can't get along
Unless Talho's around to keep soldiers in line
Dom's girl's catatonic, and everything's wrong
At least they've nobody who's not grown a spine
They've a madman to stop, and they're figuring how
And Holland is taking this duty so rough
Dewey's one step away from apocalypse now
The writers can't kill off this jerk soon enough.

Meanwhile, back on Old Earth, morale starts to drain
Even further with Linck flashing back on the beach
As they set up a medico tent in the rain
The Scub Control Cluster (and Sis?!) within reach
Renton's temperature's high from his arm injury
He brought on himself in a moment of rage
Eureka's metamorphosis comes to a tee
Thank goodness she skipped past the chrysalis stage!

At the same moment far away:

ROFL. Yeah, when he said that in the subbed version, I was like.. "Wtf.. and that's romantic" but you have to admit, he grew up a bit right there. Didn't go "What the hell is up with you woman" or anything.

I hope this show doesn't pull a "Gundam" and suddenly start randomly killing off main characters in the upcoming battle.

A nice episode. Though, it just seems surprising that they're still trying to cement the fact that those two will just stay together no matter what by throwing all these "troubles" at them. I mean, it's cute and all, but make out already:sweat: .

Renton: "Can I touch them?"

At the same moment far away:

Holand: "Protective paternal sences... tingling!"

Yeah.... that scene kinda came off a little perverted. Especially if you weren't really paying attention.

I dunno, the whole butterfly metamorphosis struck me as a very intensional metaphor, especially after the "can I touch them?" line. I'm probably reading too much into it (especially since my screwed up schedule means I've missed a lot of the show - good thing I'm buying the DVDs,) but it struck me a nice layer ontogenetic metaphor, specifically in relation to kids/teens growing up into adults. Atleast given the writing staff on the show, I wouldn't put it past them to try to layer that in.

All in all this was a good episode and leads right into what will probably be an amazing conclusion.

I'm still not digging the "Jelly Roll Sack" lyrics, but I do like the beginning of the song. Opening 3 is definitely the best opening, though.

Oh and was anyone else freaked out a bit when Renton looked back and BAM there is the Nirvash standing up. I dunno, it was late, I was tired and it definately made me jump, he/it looks weird.

It freaked me out too. I should be used to him being "alive", but I'm not, especially since in the last few eps he was just laying there. Those emotionless robot eyes don't help either.

*stretches* ahh feels good to actually register and not just lurk like I have for ages...but this show was just too good to let it go by without posting a time or two about it :)

I really do hope that insane Dewey meets a fittingly horrible end, he is definately one of my most disliked villains in an anime, he's just so.. parent-killing, pedophile, deranged psycho-ish, you know?

And I agree Renton handled the whole seeing Eureka with wings situation very well, I was almost expecting him to screw it up like usual, he's definately maturing fast lately!

I'm paraphrasing it from somewhere (Teen Titans?) but: "If you control the youth, you control the future." The show does have a theme of children's influences - from The Great Hero Thurston being taught in the schools, to the Gekko State's counter-culture following. I think it's just more of Dewey fashioning himself as a messianic leader molding the world as he wants...

ok, i understand that part, but with the exception of dominque (sp), who i don't think is a kid like those girls are, he surrounds himself with nothing but little girls. i don't know, maybe it is just me, but that was a little disturbing, how all these little girls are so intent on not just doing a good job, but doing the job and getting the results that please dewey the most. Just look at the extreme in anemone (sp). like i said, for me, it is disturbing.

"Can I touch them?"

Ha ha! Renton wins AS line of the week for sure! If TZ had such a thing...

I know long odds are a commonality in anime... heck, maybe even TV in general. But how often do you get actual numbers? 13,000 vs. 2? I wonder if our heroes have anything that can take out hundreds at a time... 'cause they'll need that just to stand a chance.

Or Jurgens convinces a large enough amount of the opposition to mutiny... which is what I'm betting on at this point...

Meanwhile, everyone's growing up. Eureka is sprouting butterfly wings, Renton's digging them, and Maeter's finally come to the same realization of Eureka as Maurice did two episodes ago... or processing it, at least.

And oh... so that's where sister Diane ran off too...

"Planet Rock": 4/5.

what i meant was those who seem to be personally assisting him. the one's who are wearing the 'dewey' uniforms (blue and white) have all been females from what i have seen. The only males i have seen who come close to even interacting with dewey have been regular military officers, and they only speak to him like extras hired for a movie, limited lines.

While I think his legions of little kids are creepy in their own way, I don't see anything sexual about the whole thing. I think it's more about raising them so they become just the kind of cold-blooded killers he needs or brainwashing someone who's young enough to follow him completely (I don't remember if it was ever explained where all the kids came from in that one episode where Dewey introduced them to the Sage). When Anemone was his "date" at the dance, I think it was a means of showing off the pilot of The End rather than any desire to be close to Anemone. Not that I don't find Dewey vile and dispicable like everyone else, but I don't think going after little girls and/or boys is part of his evil genius bag of tricks.

Ok, First, ladies, don't scream at me, for the terms I will be using are only for trying to make my point.
Now, I don't think that Dewey has surrounded himself with little girls on some perv satisfaction thing. In fact, I think his whole mind set is one of control (duh) and for someone who wants to be a meglomaniac, he has surrounded himself with what he thinks are the perfect followers.
Now, here is where I don't want the ladies to get mad, but think about some of the bad stereotypes that would apply in this situation; Dewey has working for him adolecent girls, who are seen as having a hero worshipping persona, and are always happy for his attention, let alone his his approval. The bad stereotypes would also include complete loyalty, down to the emotional level (Anemone would be a good example of this), an ego stroke for Dewey (assuming controlling women is just another extension of his control freak nature), as well as forming a long standing army of followers in the grand scheme of things, or was I the only one to notice that he seems to get more 'assistants as the series goes on?

In closing, I think Dewey chooses the young ladies, not out of some sick sexual need, but instead, out of some sick need of control and power, which is right in line with his character that we have seen him become as the series goes on.....:D

Big shouts to all the lovely ladies on the forum and all over the world..........Please don't try to beat me up when you see me on the street, it is only a forum:crying:

It pains me knowing that secretly ....I'm actually Dewy fan...even after my trash talking and knowledge of his bastardness.... *slaps self*
why is it that the women always goes for the guy with the long hair and brooding eyes, lol.

anyways, sorry for dragging this part of the talkback on so long. last question, how many more eps are left, and what is going to be shown after this is done??? anything new?

Edit: I meant after this show is done, what new shows are planned. Sorry for not being clearer
