I'm sensing a lot of blood in this episode, and I am positive about that.
Sheesh, normally kids dissect frogs in science lab.
That is one lousy French accent.
I smell US military coverup!
"Why don't we go to the American mall? I heard they have really good movies!" :D If she only knew...
This could be worse that telling her she's adopted.
I expected that dark-skinned bald guy to say "Ah'll be back."
Awww, not the puppy! Boooooooo!

wow... you know? it's not just the accent. i think i'm noticing more and more this dub is actually really bad. i mean with the exception of Crispin Freeman (as Haji), and Kari Wahlgren, a lot of the people sound like they're phoning it in. you can literally tell people are looking at the script. this chick playing Mao for example.

Usually in animes, it'll show a dog or something that might get killed or something, and then they run away. HE ATE THE FRIGGIN DOG! KILL THE BASTAGE! :(
I think that after airing the first episode, we got the new extra warning graphic. Besides, after putting the American Cowboys card on E7 after every ep after 26, we may not care for it.
The second episode justifies another new graphic: The following features inhumane acts on pets.

The one voice acting moment that I didn't like was when Kai was saying good-bye to his brother on the phone, and he said, "Talk to you...later." Only he said the "later" with the sort of inflection you'd normally use if you were just saying "later" rather than "talk to you later."
I know that's a really random nitpick, but it bothered me so much when I heard it.

WOW
Recap of teh bishi kiss!!
So much blood in this episode. It was really kind of cool, despite the puppy-eating. That was just  . So the blond guy vaguely reminds me of David Bowie for some reason, and Kai (sp?) looks like a good friend of mine.
Slightly creepy.
Crispin is doing an amazing job so far as well.
Blood + is getting an A+.

Erm, anyway... It was a watchable episode. It had its moments, but it acted more of a "recovery" from the previous episode.

They pulled an Elfen Lied with the dog.Yeah what was up with the dog? I thought all dogs have a good sense on things? Damn dog should have run away when he saw the guy transforming.
I thought the ep was good. I actually learned something, "nankurunaisa". Who knew.

You're not the only one who was bothered by that. I found it kind of weird, too. It just didn't flow right, in my opinion.
Oh well. The rest of the dub (aside from Jean ValJean or whatever the hell the Frenchman's name is) doesn't bother me that much.
I wish they'd show the full ED...I really, really like that song. :(
(Is the soundtrack released yet? Cuz I'll buy it just for that song...)
"Why don't we go to the American mall? I heard they have really good movies!" :D If she only knew...
You forget that Japanese people love American stuff. Even if we think it's crap.

Actually, I love the French accent. It's so delightfully cheesy. It doesn't mesh with the show at all, but it's just so hammy that I can ignore that.

"Kai, you're an ass!"
Ha, that was pretty funny.
Wow, that accent was so horrible he sounded german.
And why is it everyone on this show takes so long to respond to anything that happens?
Another funny moment with the guy calling at the end, only for his heavily intense breathing to be heard. Followed by his eating of a dog.

(Seriously, Dude, if you're going to make the ignorent dog breed jokes, you have to use "pomeranians", not "chihuahuas". </Walter>)

Remember kids: don't make obscene phone calls. People who make obscene phone calls eat dogs.
(There is a Korean food joke in here, I just know it)
...
Maybe the characters on this show suffer from high ping times?
...
Or maybe the long delays in dialogue are what is giving this show the irritatingly ponderous pace.
I don't know. All I do know, is that this show is now through its second episode, and it feels like it has been through many more. Not a lot has happened in what feels like an extended period.
...
or maybe the dub just sucks.

Well now we are getting someplace, last week while I overall like the episode the plot felt a bit disjointed. With this episode the story ran a lot smother concentrating more on two characters Saya and Kai, and a plot that was fairly straight. The action of the episode was short but intense and I look forward to longer action scenes in the future. Voice acting is still good but nothing that remarkable so far. The music came through a bit more prominently than last week, and I was able to detect some distinct Han Zimmer cues. And the animation was still one the best quality on television now. If I had any complaints it probably is that the atmosphere of the episode was not top notch as the first episode. Overall Blood+ has the potential for great things and I will keep watching.
Blood+ “Magic Words”
Overall grade- B+ Very Good

say what? In one episode of Elfen Lied, there was a flashback scene in which a young Lucy was forced to watch a group of boys beat a defenseless puppy to death, which eventually led to a very bloody moment in which the kids get pwn'ed by Lucy.
Speaking of the dog incident: what's up with vampires feasting on dogs in anime? I'm asking this because the same thing happened in an episode of Nightwalker (although they didn't actually show the vampire eating the dog).

That part where Saya freaked out and had flashbacks of her blood rampage was pretty cool.
I know it's only two episodes in but so far it's drawing my attention more than Trinity Blood did.

Yeah so far, Blood+ is a lot more entertaining than Trinity Blood. I found those Saya flashbacks pretty cool aswell. As a whole, I found the 1st episode better than the 2nd.

Yeah, I'm wondering in my head if the script is americanized.
Cause it sounds like one of those movies you see in a theater.

whats all this talk over how the word "later" was said. who caries about nitpicking such a little line. It was one sentence for crying out loud. How could that bug people so much?
And am I the only one that enjoy the puppy eating? That scene alone makes this better then Trinity Blood. In fact I think that scene could have used a lot more blood  I mean the shows called blood+ so we should have tons and tons of blood not some girl who I can aready see going all emo over the fact that shes a vampire.
Also, did any one else notice the old picture with the volin man and a women. I wonder who that is though it is probably going to turn out to the little vamp girl and the mysterious guy ends up being her old vamp flame. Its how these vampire stories always turn out, like clock work.

I did notice that, but for some reason I think he's more like her servant/guardian than her former lover. It was the way she told him to stop fighting with Kai, and his response, something along of the lines of "if it is your wish" (ugh I can't really remember the exact wording) seemed so formal and deferential to me.
But then again, I could be wrong.
bigdeath
03-18-2007, 03:11 PM
Don't be confused by that guy's sumissive attuide. Thats just more proves that they're former lovers. You see, in vampire stories when there is a guy who looks like a noble and seems to know the vamp girl and seems sumissive to that girl it means only one thing. They were former lovers. Aparently, obeying your mistress's every command is the hip thing to do for vampires.
I know it's only two episodes in but so far it's drawing my attention more than Trinity Blood did.
I'm having pretty much the exact opposite opinion. So far, Blood+ is only at "Eh, it's decent, I guess" level.

I agree with Captain Zechs. In fact, the dog getting eatin was my favorite part of the episode. Now I'm off to get a clip of the scene so I can watch that dog getting eatin over and over again
I also agree with Captain Zechs. Cruel? Yes. But, since it is a cartoon, it's funny because it's not real. Like the Elfen Lied scene (esp. in the context of AMV Hell). :) :D

It's hard to say good about an anime in which you can count on a few notable things and that's about it. That still puts Blood+ in a better position after two episodes than Trinity Blood... but TB gained a lot of ground when Esther first appeared. I don't suppose someone of her character type is coming in this week on B+, huh?
Don't you just love it when someone slices a monster in half and then doesn't the heck remember it? It was cool to look at all, but I'm just sayin'...
The conversation between Kai and his 'girlfriend' was the best part. There's gotta be more to it... she's a good-looking girl, and he walks off to have fun without her. Maybe he deserved to be called an ass.
And I have to say the guy in the phone booth suddenly deciding to eat that dog alive... creepy and weird.
"Magic Words": 3/5.

I read your comment, and when I came to this point, all I could think of was:
Did you notice what went wrong in that scene? Ordinarily, Billy would work hard to make money from his paper route. Then he'd use the money to buy dinner for Mavis, thus earning the slim chance to perform the reproductive act. But in a world where teens can date robots, why should he bother? Why should anyone bother?

you can literally tell people are looking at the script. this chick playing Mao for example.
That'd be Olivia Hack. Among other roles she also plays Ty Lee on Avatar, so it was kind of weird to see her say ass like that at least IMHO.
Okay let's see. We got one team creating "mouses" (aka baddie monsters that look like those freaky black japanese demons that are good are cutting up side and regular characters quite easily but always fail at ending a mainer's life 98% of the time) that is part of a conspiracy hatched by the goverment, we got another side that is using "Saya" as a weapon who was probably made to kill these beasties. However she went "out of control" in Vietnam and they probably put a hold on the project till now and erased her old memories and now want to reinstate them so she'll fight again. And her "dad" is in on this conspiracy and wants her to be normal but knows that can't be. Then we got this mysterious guy with a claw who appears to be helping Saya and based on a photograph may of once tried to marry her but now wants her to fight again but is seperate from this second faction. And then we got Saya and (the "brother") caught in the middle of all this with them asking questions that we too want to know the answers to. In addition to that we got info on Kai's backstory (and more on how he changed after meeting Saya), a very bloody fight (seriously Trinity Blood may of been bloody but this looks to throw bathtub fulls of blood compared to Trinity's buckets) and an emotional beach scene where Kai repats Yoh's advice from Shaman King about it all working out. So what does that equal? It actually equals a pretty good ep. Yeah I've got questions but not as much as I thought I would. It's all piecing together decently and it's actually interesting putting the little pieces together. Hope it stays interesting as we go on now but for now I'll keep tuning in. Killed puppy or not.
