I was just wondering if anybody on here with any knowledge in the field (Matt, I'm looking in your direction) could comment on the possibility of DVD releases of Adult Swim shows. I'm aware that Cowboy Bebop is on DVD (in a freaking awesome box set no less), but I was wondering specifically about Space Ghost and Home Movies. I mean, Space Ghost is a cult favorite, in the grand scheme of things, it's a REALLY popular show. Imagine a DVD with some of the best episodes and some commentary- Snatch, Banjo, Kentucky Nightmare, Fire Ant... that would rock. Home Movies might seem a little too obscure for a DVD release, but the way I figure, if Clerks: The Animated Series can get one, well, so can Home Movies. Heck, it'd be great to see a box set of the first season (Squigglevision eps). Anyway, just curious...

I think Clerks got a box set because Kevin Smith was behind it. God, I would LOVE a box set of Home Movies. Any season, any amount of shows.... commentary would be a plus. It's a dream though. Perhaps Matt knows something...?

I think Matt said at one point that they want to do a SGC2C DVD, but they don't know if they want to release them by season (a la Simpsons, Sopranos), or a sort of Best Of (a la South Park).
Frankly, I'm glad that Samurai Jack is getting it's own DVD. Also, once I get money, I'm getting The Sifl and Olly Season 3 (http://www.sifl-n-olly.com) DVD. :)

Well, people could always make their own VCD's of stuff. Nero can make em. Im burning one with AS shows. YEAH

Whenever I ask about how to make VCDs, no one ever tells me -- so a few months ago I checked how to do so somewhere on the Internet... from what I've read it looked very confusing and would be in the end frustrating if you were having a very bad day. But I'd still give it a try, because I know HM is never going to be released on DVD anytime soon.
I'd love Home Movies DVDs...
And Brak Show, Aqua Teens, and everything but Birdman.

VCD's are very easy to make now. I use Nero (www.ahead.de) and All you do is click on video cd, and drag and drop the files. Its soo easy. But if you can't do that, then it is really hard. So many settings.

any AS DVDs would be pretty cool. i'd love it.

VCD's are cool and are but they're no better, really, than taping the show, which I already do. The reason you buy a DVD is for the packaging, extra features, better quality, and to support the makers. I mean, say you cut out every single Calvin and Hobbes strip, during the strip's whole ten year run. Chances are you'd still own some of the book collections. Look at it as an upgrade.

Video tapes wear after many, many viewings. So it's cool to keep it on a DVD so they can last forever.

I can't wait till you can record on DVD's from the TV. The source of laziness for the FUTURE!

You can do that today. Panasonic has a DVD recorder for about $1500:

I have about eight dollars in my pocket and 32 in the bank. I won't be able to get one until they in the price range of, oh, about FREE!

Yeah that's true. Plus, there's just something cool about owning a box set. Especially a Home Movies one. Not that I'd know what it feels like.... I guess I kind of see Soup2Nuts releasing Dr. Katz before Home Movies. And there's no doubt in my mind Space Ghost will receive a DVD release. It's too popular not to.

Ok, how about a petition to get Adult Swim DVD's going?
randomguy

Hate to say this, but online petitions do not work. Companies couldn't care less as to whether a couple of hundred fans sign an online petition, especially since online petitions take two seconds to sign and carry no real comittment.

You are very wrong. The reason why Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is in a widescreen format is because of a petiton.
AND, there is a petiton to get Blockbuster Video to stock widescreen movies (they have over 20,000 signatures) and Blockbuster is doing it. Want proof??? Go to http://www.thedigitalbits.com.
So don't doubt it if you don't try.

On line petitions were also insturmental in getting Star Wars Episode One on DVD sooner than Lucas had originally planned. Do not underestimate the power of petitions and letter writing campaigns. I believe it got us Batman Beyond Return of the Joker uncut, Cats and Dogs widescreen, Star Wars Episode One, and others. The studios pay attention to these because the signatures represent potential customers, which equates money for them, which is the language they speak. Yeah, if your petition only got ten signatures, it probably won't work, but there have been plenty of successful ones.

Thanks for agreeing. I'll go ahead and add another one. Due to its popularity, USA listened to their audience and aired the last season of Le Femme Nikita.

Since I could never adequately explain myself, hop on over to animejump.com and go to the columns session. There's an editorial there on online petetions which basically sums up how I feel. I don't agree with everything, but I think a lot of valid points are made.

Ok, this is not the same as getting gravy flavored jello.
In fact, if you read the second paragraph, it shows an example of an anime petiton of only 1,000 people that worked so that shoots down the rest of his theory.
He even mentiones that Babylon 5 kept going because of the fan base. Thus, the same could happen with Adult Swim (and the fact that Cartoon Network can make more money by producing DVD's is an even better reason for them to go through with Adult Swim DVD's).
The columnist even has a petition at the end of his column (that has 29 signatures only) so he's a hypocrite.

I didn't want this to incite some sort of heated debate. I'm just saying that I (that's me mind you) think a lot of the points are valid. And the last petition isn't hypocritical. It's clearly sarcasm. Just a joke to drive the point home- not meant to be taken seriously.

Ok then would you agree that if Cartoon Network had a chance to gain profit by making Adult Swim DVD's, then they would go for that opportunity??
randomguy
02-12-2002, 10:55 PM
No denying that. And I'm thinking that an online petition would probably carry some weight with a company as fan-related as Williams Street.

I still hold my opinions. Please, just let them be. Forget I said anything.

Hmm, it sounds like no one else besides you and me seems to care to comment. Maybe it was a bad idea to bring this topic up again.

I'm thinking so. It seems dumb to debate it into the ground anyway.

I think another reason I brought it up was because I was hoping to reply to other posts. So instead of waiting, I brought back an older topic. I have no idea how many threads I'm subscribed to,

It would be so cool to come out with AS DVDs and VHS's [I dont have a DVD player :( ] I'd be buyin like every AS show I could get a hold of at Suncoast or any good movie store! [I'll be more broke then ever!]

02-13-2002, 08:57 PM
Forget SunCoast. Best Buy would be the better choice.

Suncoast is a bit more expensive. Best Buy rules!
Sorry for not replying to you guys in this topic. I like this topic as well. Just been a bit sick lately... sleeping is constant... school is not needed... as of now I'm sick too. Oh well.
