This is the talkback thread for Help Control the Stupid Kid Population: Don't Let Them Watch "Ghostbusters" (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=15561).
In case you might not have figured it out: This series sucks royally.

Ha ha ha! I remember the show, and figured buying the DVD would be a waste of time since every episode was the same and had that long, long, long "suitting up" sequence.
Don't be so hard on the illogicalities of the series--when you're a kid there's a lot you'll accept without question. I didn't hate the show, but I can't exactly defend it.

I think it's a good time killer when there's nothing else to do.
But, never, EVER, watch the 5 part pilot in one sitting. That was the absolute longest 2 hours of my life when I got the VHS of it a few years ago. It didn't help that the company cut out the title cards, opening, and ending credits inbetween the episodes to make it look like a movie.

Great review Duke. I always hated that show myself. It looked so incredibly tacky compared to the "Real" Ghostbusters.

ESPNEWS and CNN are better options.

I was wonder why movie based cartoon was call The Real GhostBusters.
I did use to watch this show.
Filmation's GhostBuster was suppose be a follow to Filmation live action series The Ghost Busters in 1975.

I never liked this show. The Real Ghostbusters blew Filmation's Fake GhostBusters right out of the water--BANG with a capital B!
BTW, does anyone out there remember if Filmation tried to sue DiC/CTV (at the time called Coca-Cola Communications) to stop TRG from being made?

"Follow-up" is the wrong word. The only things the two series share are the name, the logo (though the cartoon got rid of the arms and made it look a bit less like Boo Berry), the main character names, and Tracy the Gorilla (who changed his beanie to an Indiana Jones hat). Not even Ghost Command is the same. In the cartoon its a rundown, 2-story wooden house in between the World Trade Centers in New York (BTW, it doesn't change at all in The Future, despite every other building being completely different). In the live-action series it was an apartment office like in the old film noir detective stories.

Lou Scheimer addressed this in his brief interview. He said that the one big mistake he made in the court case against Columbia Pictures for the rights of the movies was to not secure full rights for an animated series. Hence, he had to settle with a name change.

This review actually makes me want to watch it, if only for laughing at how horrible it is. It's more the thing I'de watch on Youtube when I'm bored rather than buy the DVD.

Watching a test pattern is a better option. :D

The two are the sons of GhostBusters Jake Kong and Eddie Spenser. Both did appear cartoon. Maybe if Filmation has use the element of the live action live the self destruct tape.
The thing I didn't get is robot ghost. When are ghosts robotic.

I know that. But apparently even the actors themselves were embarrassed by this, as the fathers look NOTHING like the live-action versions. Instead, they look like grown-up versions of Jake & Eddie (and their weights have shifted, as Jake Sr. was heavier than Eddie Sr. in the live-action version).

Very few of the ghosts in the show are actually ghosts. Most are monsters or demons.

It's funny, that he says a good word for the animation, which is what Filmation is usually slammed for. But then finds all of this other stuff wrong with it. Because people can breathe in outer space? How many other cartoons, including serious action-adventure, does that occur in?
Anyway; I felt when the legal dispute erupted, Filmation hould have simply syndicated the live action show, instead of making a new show. That would have shown who the original "Ghostbusters" really were.
Here is an excellent fanfic pairing both Ghostbusters teams; revealing that they in fact had a common origin! I always wished they would have made a special like this. http://archive.ghostbusters.net/fanfictionstory/132/ghn/

I'm just waiting for the original Ghostbusters with Forrest Tucker and Larry Storch to come out on video this April.

Aw, I remember the days when I'd catch this show. I'd always look forward to watching Ghostbusters, and then this show came on and I was like "What the hell!?", why's this called Ghostbusters!?

Well, it's still worse than most of the bigger cartoons like TRG, ThunderCats, etc. It's just good by Filmation standards and it looks better than it has a right to thanks to BCI's excellent restoration.

Here's my reccomendation: Don't pay money to watch it.

If your library or local video rental store is fortunate(?) enough to have the DVD in storck, I'd definitely rent it.

I actaully like this one a bit more than the RGB. Weird I know but you know both GB toons had really great voice casts, the Filmation one had Brad Garrett in it, who went on to win a Emmy for Everybody Loves Raymond and being in Pixar movies, what can RGB show in terms of that?

Lorenzo "Garfield" Music, Dave "Uncle Joey" Coulier, Maurice "The Brain" Lamarche, Arsenio Hall, and the always great Frank Welker.

1) If all cartoons were as good as their voice casts, then The Wacky World of Tex Avery would be one of the greatest cartoons ever made.
2) See Tobias' post.
3) RGB had way superior animation, more mature and complex writing, decent villains...the list goes on.

Prime Evil's design actually looks pretty interesting, at least, based on the pictures. He's got that.
Kudos to the DVD guys for getting the pilot right. Outside of that, is there any continuity in this train wreck?

The problem is he's essentially a re-colored Skeletor. Even if Skeletor never existed though, I've seen better designs.

Some, as Jake continues to woo both Jessica and Futura. And there are some reoccuring characters like Big Evil, Madam Why, and Morrow. Though Big Evil is always trapped or imprisoned whenever he appears and then the next time he appears no mention is ever made as to how he escaped.
