View Full Version : Miguzi could be the Saturday morning block

If you've been following my posts lately then you've probably already noticed that I'm very much hoping Toonami can take back it's weekday slot of 5-7PM some time this year (preferably sooner than later). The Miguzi brand has weakened to the extent that the bumpers don't even include the whole name anymore and the current Miguzi is 1.5 hours of "almost Toonami" followed by Naruto.
I don't believe Miguzi should bite the big one though. Instead, much like Toonami did 3 years ago, I believe Miguzi should become a Saturday only attraction and build it's identity as a premiere block. Currently CN Saturday morning premieres episodes of shows that suit Miguzi just fine so the transition would be pretty much seemless.
Here's an example of a possible Miguzi Saturday schedule.
09:00 AM - Robot Boy
09:30 AM - Pokemon Diamond and Pearl
10:00 AM - Ben 10
10:30 AM - Power Puff Girls Z
11:00 AM - Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
11:30 AM - Team Galaxy
12:00 PM - Code LYOKO
12:30 PM - Teen Titans
You probably noticed I included PPGZ here. I think pairing it with Ben 10 in the 10 hour would be a good move for that property when it comes to the US. The property suits Miguzi quite well and following Ben 10 should help it get some decent ratings.
I also moved GX to Saturday mornings. It still works for YGO afterall? Baring 4kids having a contract limitation that doesn't allow it to air Saturday mornings (and they just might given that's when they air YGO on their block) I think moving GX to Saturday mornings for premieres is an obvious choice. (also my way of getting it off Toonami Saturday... heh).
Pokemon is there for obvious reasons.
This might be a good time to air new episodes of other Saturday morning shows CN has been playing like Team Galaxy and Robot Boy (if they have any more, I haven't been paying attention).
Finally I finish the block with reruns of Miguzi regulars Teen Titans and Code LYOKO. When new episodes of LYOKO become available the choice can be made as to where they want to premiere them (maybe on Toonami in this case, maybe on Saturday mornings... it's a wait and see kind of thing IMO).
I'd like to give Dragon Hunters another chance as well but I honestly can't say I expect that to happen.
I suppose a little comedy would be nice but since CN is usually airing comedy programing when it isn't airing a block, I don't think a lack of comedy heavy programing will hurt this Miguzi but much like the Australian Miguzi (which was on weekend mornings) they could air CN original comedies in it besides original action shows and suitable aquisitions.
So, what do you think?

Hmm, There's only one problem.
What will fill the void left by Miguzi?
If Miguzi leaves weekdays, Then it will be populated with Cartoon Network reruns.

That's actually pretty cool. Miguzi would work very well as a Saturday morning block.
It may also help the brand more if it actually becomes a premeire block.

Well Naruto sure isn't going to leave if it's doing as well at 5:30PM and some other block's 10th anniversary could be full of interesting surprises. :anime:
Though in all honesty I wouldn't be surprise if they could put together a group of action shows unblocked rather than having Toonami or Miguzi. But I'm opting for Toonami (which wouldn't mean the block would leave Saturday night mind you).

Well, it might fill the way for a Toonami Weekdays block, and maybe a Toonami Flashback block on Adult Swim, early in the morning.

I'd like it very much if Miguzi went to Saturday mornings and Toonami went back to weekdays!

I like that schedule but I hate waking up at 8:30 to see pokemon on saturday (in my timezone atleast)

Team Galazy has 2 seasons of 26 episodes ordered, 52 overall, and they've aired 13, so they should have at least 13 more already ready to go.

Meh
At the moment, they seem to have the blocks hopelessly screwed up. I'd prefer the four blocks where they are and just keep them better defined.
Toonami works great for Saturday evening. I generally have the evening free and there isn't much else on. It gives them the 6:00-8:00pm slots to fill with the light anime I won't watch like Yugio and Pokemon, and leaves the pimetime for the more mature themes like Naruto, PoT, and if we're lucky, Legion of Superheroes. Putting some of the crossover shows like Zatch Bell and PPGZ between them. It makes a great runup to the good Actn anime on [AS].
Miguzi, running each weekday early afternoon, I like the lighter action shows because their high humour content makes them more watchable over and over. Great spot for Xiaolin Showdown, CodeLyoko, JuniperLee, and Ben10.
Fridays should be the new show block
Now that I've lost Witch, Oban, KimPossible, GetEd, and DragonBooster. My Saturday Morning are pretty much dead till LoSH comes on WB/CW. After to obligatory CC's, reruns from Friday's or shows like Team Galaxy, Juniper Lee and RobotBoy that aren't likely to get on Miguzi, would be nice there. Giving me a chance to see a show that may conflict with Avatar tLAb or LoSH
The weekday evenings seem to be the domain of EE&E, Fosters and Billy and Mandy. That's fine because I'm not likely to be able to watch evenings anyway.

I agree almost 100% with this. I'd rather CN gets what they have right before screwing up something brand new.

its not a bad suggestion, however what would air on saturday evenings? I want to see toonami back just as much as the next person, and I hope it dos return to weekdays.
But I would like to see saturdays devoted to the stuff that's airing on jetstream...that would actually be cool...

A Jetstream block on TV, eh? Might be a good ratings grabber, with Hikaru no Go on basic cable. Or it could go one step further, and do a Shonen Jump block, with shows synonymous to the Shonen Jump name!

It's a pretty good schedule, but i don't get why they would go 12-1 versus 8-9. I think PPGZ is really early at this point, and Team Galaxy needs to be after Pokeman or Ben 10(Thoguh it failed when it was reruns), so it can try and grab an audience for thhe rest of the year. I think since they've aired Teen Titans 1000s of times, i think Xialon Showdown should be the only rerun, if neccessary. The basics should be on it, satam regulars and still premiring current miguzi shows. Add itaden jump for a little spice in the mornin
This seems a little more likely(except for maybe 7-8.5)
7:00 Xialon Showdown(Reruns)
7:30 Itaden Jump(Encore)
8:00 Itaden Jump(New)
8:30 Pokeman(Encore)
9:00 Pokeman(New)
9:30 Team Galaxy(New)
10:00 Ben 10(New)
10:30 Code Lyoko(New)
11:00 Yu-Gi-Oh GX(New)
11:30 Robot Boy(New)
PPGZ and unnamed come in 07-08, and stuff is moved off
Here could be a possible 07-08 schedule
7:00 Xialon Showdown(Rerun)
7:30 Team Galaxy(New)
8:00 Robot Boy(New)
8:30 Pokeman(Encore)
9:00 Pokeman(New)
9:30 PPGZ(new)
10:00 Ben 10(New)
10:30 NEW PROPERTY(New)
11:00 Yu-Gi-Oh GX(New)
11:30 Code Lyoko(New)
PPGZ and New property will wedge 9-11am. Code Lyoko moves after GX, and Team Galaxy fails again and gets shifted to 7:30 to finish its run. Robot Boy also moves to 8:00 for Code Lyoko. If itaden Jump doesn't finish it's run by sept, it can air at 7am.
Kagestu, in my opinion, no Cartoon Network Original(with the exception of Megas and Jack) should air on Miguzi or Toonami, and about sat am reruns, fridays rerun should be on sunday at primetime
I think Miguzi could work as a 2-5 block while toonami goes 5-7

We can move Miguzi to the mornings and play something Ed Edd n Eddy in its place.

Look everyone, Toonami will never be on weekdays. Why?
1. The Toonami block on Saturday has a lot of shows.
2. The shows have gotten violent as the Toonami manager says.
3. It's relaunching which means "MORE NEW SHOWS".

I completely agree with you, Sketch. I've always thought they should move Miguzi to mornings and bring Toonami back to weekdays. But I do like Toonami at night... I think it's fitting. So, I dunno.

Of course having GX on Saturday morning wouldn't gurantee it being off of Toonami, considering that Battle Frontier airs in both locations currently.

This doesn't factor in Toonami leaving Saturday night mind you. This factors in Toonami getting a weekday rerun slot. CN wont give up PT for that on weekdays so Miguzi's current (dieing) spot would work the best I suppose if Naruto has proven that Toonami will work then.
I mean if they'll air Naruto on weekdays at that time... why not all the other far less violent Toonami shows?

So, yeah, um... explain to me why Toonami having more shows means it should have fewer timeslots? I would've thought MORE NEW SHOWS would mean MORE OF AN EXCUSE TO EXPAND TO WEEKDAYS, but that's just me.

Well I feel that if they remove Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece and the encore Naruto Rerun, They can fit 4 shows on there.
Weekdays would only work if they had a plan and a schedule, There would have to be 16 shows to fill weekdays.

16 shows?
No sir.
You want a plan? I'll give you a plan.
Saturday Toonami airs premieres of Legion, one of the Turner anime, SGT Frog, Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo, One Piece, Naruto, Prince of Tennis and MAR - Fantastic Four also comes back in June (replacing Legion, should be the exact time if Legion starts in March but it might not)
Weekdays premieres Zatch Bell in chunks, the episodes of MAR and PoT that Toonami hasn't aired yet and episodes of The Batman that CN hasn't aired yet (there's a decent chunk). Along with that it would mostly be reruns as Miguzi was mostly reruns anyway.
The main point of weekday Toonami is to have somewhere to do an occasional weekday premiere along with lots of reruns of shows that would otherwise not get reruns like Bo-Bobo, Prince of Tennis, MAR, etc. Along with a steady slot for Naruto so it can really bring in the numbers and get closer to DBZ-like-status ratings wise. Along with that they could air movies on Friday so they can re-air some of those great movies they aired in 2006.
It's true they could be doing a lot more with Saturday Toonami as it is now but come March the first two weeks are very solid, devoid of Pokemon and GX (and Titans reruns) and Bo-Bobo replaces the Naruto encore on February 17th if you didn't already know about that.
The time for gaining back weekdays is ripe for the picking. Miguzi on weekday afternoons might as well be Toonami as it is. They share 2 shows and the block is directly followed by Naruto.
But the #1 reason in my mind for getting a weekday Toonami this Spring would be to let Prince of Tennis and MAR air all their episodes in a timely manner because they really need to make up for skipping those episodes and this is about the best way to do it.
And Toonami needs a spot for reruns dang it! Zatch Bell hasn't been on weekdays in about half a year, Bo-Bobo has yet to be on weekdays (and it's got 50 episodes so there's no real good excuse number wise) and it might even be a chance to see shows like JLU, Jack and Megas again (hey Jack and Megas have to have done alright of Jetstream at least). Dare I say... IGPX might get a shot even if things are really looking good at some point. But Toonami has lots of long shows and long shows just once a week just isn't going to cut it. Toonami needs weekdays back, and bad. Where as Miguzi seems to just be taking up space with no real purpose. Using Miguzi to springboard a stronger Saturday morning line-up might be just the thing to make the brand notable.
Eh, if I were in charge I'd air some of Toonami's lighter shows (MAR, Zatch, etc.) in the 6PM hour while I'd hack off Adult Swim's 10:30 slot and give the 10PM hour to Toonami's slightly darker/more mature/would fit better in the 2nd half shows (like Naruto or Prince of Tennis). All of that would be general CN, mind you, not Toonami. Leave Miguzi to stuff like Xiaolin Showdown, Pokémon, GX, etc.

In a perfect world they'd have a 12-17 targeted time 10-11PM. Unfortunately CN doesn't seem to believe Toonami's shows work pre-AS very well nor do they mesh well at all with CN's PT line-up. So if they're comfortable airing Naruto at 5:30PM then I figure why not just let Toonami have the time back? You and I both know, there's nothing darker than Naruto on Toonami. Infact everything else is practically Miguzi material. This isnt how it should be, but it is how it currently is. So I'm just rolling with it I guess.
