From the crazy mind of C.H. Greenblatt comes our first look at the new Cartoon Network show Chowder. No doubt that this show is going to be hilarious considering the stuff he came up with on SpongeBob and Billy and Mandy. This screenshot is from the pilot episode of the show. The characters from left to right are Shnitzel, Mung Daal, and Chowder.

Can't see the picture really...Unless Chowder looks like a block with a red X on it.

Can anyone else see the cast picture?

Looks like they're going for the "weird" factor here.

It seems like Federator is doing this.

Meh. Looks mediocre. If they can take these characters and not focus that heavily that they're...whatever they are, then it may be OK, but if it's based on what they are, aliens or whatever, then it will probably disappoint. Backgrounds look pretty cool however.

It's going to be a character-based retarded oddball of fun, it surely wont be "a concept." That's what CH does.

Sounds good to me!

SpongeTronXYZ, where did you get this?

The show doesn't look like it has great animation... Therefore, I probably won't like it...

You've seen animation from this? So far all I've seen are the screenshots from C.H. Rosenblatt's blog. (http://nerdarmada.blogspot.com/) Unless you're talking about character design or overall visual style, both of which are separate issues to animation.

Meanwhile, I think it's definitely something to watch out for, as it's not just a Billy and Mandy alumni creating the show, but the Billy and Mandy alumni who created Fred Fredburger (which for better or worse, is probably one of the most successful characters to come out of CN in a while.) Thus, there is a pretty good chance this is really funny (though probably quite polarizing as well.)

Oh, BTW, it's being animated in house at CN Studios IIRC, not Frederator.

I can't wait for the show! I love what CH does and I just laugh looking at the pictures!

According to Tara Strong's website, she states that this is a show to look forward to and it is crazy and funny.

I have high hopes for it.

lol. If this comes out on iTunes, I'll buy. This looks hilarious!

Girl_named_Goo (Lauren Faust) works on Foster's, and the people that work at/for CN probably see things before they come out.

But I have no idea where SpongetronXYZ saw it.

Hmm, a Lauren Faust seal of approval. That's some high praise IMHO. However, all it's made me do is wish it was scheduled to air sooner. I guess since the pilot is done though, it should be on within the year (yay!) Maybe the upcoming upfront will have some more details on that.

True that.

Which reminds me, when is Upfront?

When this show finally airs and develops some sort of following, will the fans of this show come to be known as..."Chowder Heads?"

It was apparent he got it from the creator's blog.

I have high hopes because of C.H. Greenblatt, but I've been disappointed before. After all look at Camp Lazlo (Joe Murray), Squirrel Boy (Everret Peck), and Class of 3000 (Patric Verrone). That being said, the art I've seen looks fantastic, and the props from Lauren Faust is a very good thing.

Pretty soon IIRC, atleast for Cartoon Network's upfront.

Yeah, it's unique and refreshing - not patently UPA, not over-complex, not over-simplistic, but instead it's own flavor and style. The usage of texture fills rather than color fills might be particularly interesting. It's sort of cool to see digitally-colored cel animation make use of the fact you can start using textures that'd be intensely expensive and tricky to use in traditional animation.

Just saw clips from the pilot on the cartoon network website (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/promos/upfront) (click new shows and chowder). Even shows Greenblatt explaining the show and performing a "comparison."

Can't wait to see the whole pilot.

I can't identify who voices Chowder. Can someone help me out?

Is it just me, or does Chowder look an awful lot like Eek the Cat?

Anyway, the production design looks fab. I saw the clips, and they did pique my interest. I'll definitely give this one a look.
