Disney seems to milk anything they make now these days. If you buy a copy of "Atlantis:The Lost Empire", there is an insert inside, which is normal, tellign upcoming DVD and VHS releases. Well, in the insert there is an ad which reads:
Return to Atlantis
In An All-New Movie.
More Adventure
More Mystery
More Fun
More Atlantis
Coming Soon To Disney DVD and Video!
Coming soon probably means Fall of 2002, since the ad for Monsters, Incs. says the same thing and I've heard a tentative release date oof sometime in October.
Does anyone have any comments to say about this? Doe Disney not have an more original stuff that they have to sequelize every movie they've made? I've read the posts about the Disney sequels, and that it what it seems like they are doing.

This is odd, because Disney scrapped the Atlantis animated series, which already had animation finished, because it tanked at the box office. Seems strange that they'd release a sequel.

The sequel will probably be a DTV which is far cheaper to produce than a box office sequel. Hopefully they'll use the animation from the planned Team Atlantis series (like the first three parter) and just call it a movie. I had heard that the series was going to be great and than Disney canned it. Funny tho that the one movie that actually lends itself to a sequel (Tarzan) hasn't been done but a bunch of others ones have! Oh well, as long as it isn't Hunchback 2, what's that? Already done. Ok, Cinderella 2? Done that to?! Lady and the Tramp 2? Rescuers 2? Peter Pan 2? Done and done! Ok then, well at least it's gotta be better than snow white 2!

Gettin' sick of all of the DTV sequels that Disney puts no effort into and expects us to buy.

That's exactly what they're doing for the "sequel" to Atlantis. The first 3 eps were essentially finished, with minor things to complete when the series was canned. However, they decided to use those episodes as a DTV Sequel with some retooling to turn the eps into one coherent storyline as a movie.

I'd like to take the opportunity to beg everyone here not to rent or buy any of those sequels so they'll all bomb and Disney can stop this nonsense.
Please please please please please please

This is a great idea in my book. They are using something that I was probably going to watch anyways and not making another lame sequel to one of their classic movies. Maybe someone should explain to Disney that people like more original stuff?

The series is pretty much a lost cause, but the developed material (including a run-in with Demona) could show up if more Atlantis sequels are made.

I'm betting Disney figures that since they already got some episodes of TEAM ATLANTIS done, they'll just repackage them and make some more cash off it. I plan to buy ATLANTIS (the 2 disc set) today or tomorrow - becuase I actually enjoyed the movie. I'm not at all surprised by the DTV sequel, or lame name.

www.animated-movies.com poste dup this in their section dedicated to Atlantis:
In August 13, 2001, reliable sources reported that Walt Disney Television Animation was having second thoughts about entirely scrapping Team Atlantis: the division is finally proceeding with a direct-to-video called Atlantis: The New Adventures.
Originally, the direct-to-video was to be an original story called Atlantis II: Shards of Chaos, which bridged the gap between the movie and the series. Instead, Disney will use the first three TV episodes. One was mostly through preproduction, including writing, recording, storyboard, design and direction. The other two were finished with preproduction and had been shipped overseas for layout and animation. The episodes' beginnings and endings, though, had to be rewritten to tie their stories together.
Those who worked on the canned series seemed grateful that something was being salvaged. "It's not 39 episodes, but it'll do," said one employee. "Granted tomorrow they might change their minds, but as of today that's the plan."
A co-worker speculated: "I suspect that now that this is a direct-to-video instead of just an average TV episode we may have a bigger budget and more time to do things better than just average."
As for a true Atlantis II, he mused, "I wouldn't put it past the direct- to- video department to be working on an Atlantis sequel or prequel. They did a Hunchback sequel, so nothing is impossible as far as I'm concerned."
According to MSNBC, "Disney feature animation chief Tom Schumacher says he is more focused on the film’s profitability and long-term value which will involve a video sequel and TV show than how it stacks up against Tomb Raider this weekend."
Interesting....

DAMNIT, DAMNIT, DAMNIT!
What's with all the sequels lately? Especially half-assed disney ones? I'd lose my faith in cinema if not for Spiderman and Two Towers.

Run-in with Demona? Is this something that is actually gonna happen or is it something that you'd wish would happen?

Gargoyles co-creator Greg Weisman was working on this Team Atlantis show before it got scrapped, and one of his plans for the future of the series was a Gargoyles crossover. This might've helped boost the likelihood of a future Gargoyles comeback. But Team Atlantis is dead.

I actually work at Disney Australia who are responsible for most of the straight to video releases. Anyway as I'll be hush hush with WHAT is definately happening as we are working on it, but yeah I haven't heard of the Atlantis sequal beeing done from scratch. It's just gonna be pasted together from the would be TV show. I presume. We're left in the dark on most things anyway, but we get premier screenings :D

Any chance we could get you to start a revolution down there that would prevent films like Snow White 2 from ever being produced? :D

I know! Isn't it horrible! I could taste it! I woul dlove to see new Goliath dialogue come out from Keith David's mouth. And could you imagine Mike Mignolia's design tweaks for the Gargoyles? Man...(as you said) WE WERE SO CLOSE!

Once again, Disney strikes! I loved Gargoyles and would have loved to see anything with Goliath and the rest of the gang! Any chance that if the sequel does well Disney would still consider the series, or is it completely dead. (Everybody lobby for UPN to pick it up for their Saturday morning block ;) )
Any chance Greg would tell us what the story line was - maybe the crew could be searching for the Phoenix Gate or just simply checking up on the artifacts Zanatos possesses. Altho seeing as how they are based in two different times periods, how would this work? (Atlantis was based in like the 1940's - 50's I think and Gargoyles was more present day).

Atlantis took place in the early twentieth century, late teens/early twenties. Demona fit in because she's immortal. The other gargoyles really couldn't work in guest appearances except for the one who was supposed to get his own time-travelling show.
If you're curious, check out Ask Greg (http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/) for some glimpse into might've been

Thanks a ton for the info! I check up on Gregs boards every couple of days but must have missed the planned crossover. For some reason it didn't register that it would just be Demona - my bad. It would be kind of kewl if they did find Demona, altho they would almost have to be after something she possessed, unless they were looking for the Weird Sisters (the more Gargoyle characters they use, the better :) )

Ya know if the sequel does good enough, even though they canceled the series since the movie will be made of the first 3 episodes and they do really well, maybe they would come and say the sequel was practically the pilot for the series and then resurrect it. :)

That would be awesome because i'm sure the animation would be great (unless they go with the current Team-o Supreme-o style) but since it's the house of mouse they'd probably just hire a bunch of banana eating chimps to do the screen play! As much as I wanted to see the series if Greg isn't going to be on it I don't think I would want to watch it. Same goes with Gargoyles - only bring it back if you can get the main people back on it! Look at the Teamo Supreme-o series airing now - this show is full of crud that Disney did up just to cash in on the quick buck of the Powerpuff Girls franchise and it doesn't even compare to some of the great cartoons of Disney's past, not even close. Someone needs to slap Disney up and make them understand that the audience doesn't want to watch their mindless dribble anymore - we want good story telling to bring the stories to their fullest potential!
