Out of all the directors at warner bros. that directed the Bugs Bunny cartoons, which do you think made the best Bugs shorts? My opinion would to be either Bob Clampett or Arthur Davis

Clampett's Bugs was a psychopath and Jones' Bugs is a Mary Sue. Out of those two, I like Clampett's more (insanity over perfection). Call me strange, but I was rather fond of Tex Avery's Bugs, then, Bob McKimson's, Clampett's, Frank Tashlin's, Jones', and then Freleng's.

I'll have to go with Avery's and Freleng's take on the wabbit. I love many of Jone's and Clampett's Bugs Bunny Cartoons but Clampett's was somewhat of a Bully and Jone's was a bit too tame IMO. I think Bugs should be a mischievous little wabbit but not unlikeable. And Avery and Freleng did that perfectly but Tex only did four.

Chuck Jone's version, hands down. The rabbit became more than just a loud-mouthed wise guy in Jones' gifted hands - he became a hero. I like the other versions - the McKimson and the Avery - but I laugh much harder at the Jones version. Unfortunately, those animators who have tried to imitate the Jones version have, IMO, misunderstood him, and have made him come off as insufferably smug (see Back In Action - no, on second thought, don't see it).

I was personally fond of Freleng's take on the rabbit. Not only did he supply Bugs with wit and a more worthy opponent than Fudd but he also showed Bugs' compassionate side.

I like Freling's and McKimsons because Freling's Bugs was smart and had great comic timing. McKimson's Bugs was a good guy who helped out the little man from bigger foes, except of course for Rebel Rabbit but it still was a funny cartoon.

I think Clampett's Bugs had the most personality to him. On top of that, he was the craziest. He seemed to be less of a hero and more of a guy who was only hero on his own terms, but on top of that he was a sore loser and a bully. For some reason, I find that Bugs most appealing. McKimson's Bugs kept some of that edge, and Avery's was very methodical and witty. Jone's Bugs was too tame and Freleng's didn't really do anything.
