I was thinking about this over dinner while watching tonight's repeat of "Episode VII." Although it's a little early to think about this year's Prime Time Emmy Awards, I was wondering which Samurai Jack episode, if we were someone who worked for CN, we would submit for the Outstanding Animated Program Emmy?

That's a really good question. However, since Cartoon Network airs them out of order, I have no idea which episode is which.

Wow... and EMMY bid...

Aku: I'd like to thank Jebus...
Jack: *sigh* I wanted to do the speech, but NO... he HAD to get the airtime..

I really don't think SJ could make it for an Emmy, it doesn't seem likely. But then again, the Patriots ARE going to the Superbowl, so far be it from me to deny miracles...

Hmm, an Emmy Bid... I'd actually prefer to pitch the trilogy at the committee, it's got the most impact. The gorgeous multi-ethnic scenery, the incredibly sparse dialogue, the intense struggles, the broad scope, the epic grandeur, THE SHEER ARTISTIC GENIUS OF THIS WORK OF ANIMATION!
*abruptly smacked with a katana hilt*
@.@ ... sorry about that...

ANYhoo, being denied the trilogy, I'd have to look for that sort of intensity in one of the regular eps... and that's a tough choice to make, because I have several faves, but I wonder if they'd have exactly what's needed.

Ep 6- My FAVORITE... I call it "Pretty Hate Machine" (nin... NIN!!!)
This ep has SERIOUS emotional potential for obvious reasons, and that's why it tops my list. It has great music and an intoxicating Middle Eastern flavor (but for that reason it could also raise a whole lot of really unnecessary flack... and you KNOW that there'd be at least SOMEONE *****ing about it... *sigh*). And crossdressing transgender evil. So rather than give the idiots ammo, I'd place my vote elsewhere...

Ep 7- Aheh heh.... yeah.... okay... rampant fanservice aside, this one could be a winner. It plays like an animated "Kung Fu", has some really BREATHTAKING art (no, not THAT breathtaking art,you nimrods!), a neat synasthetic ambient sequence when he puts on the blindfold, and some great mythological fantasy elements. It's trippy, zen coolness. But just how seriously would people be able to take a man stripped half naked? You may say I'm overestimating the sensitivity of the committees... but come ON. THINK about the brainpower of the entertainment industry with me. These are the kinds of people who gave us v.i.p.. Yeah, NOW you get the idea.

Ep 10- Now here's one that no one can complain about. It's got action, heart, heroism, and a moral of eternal perseverance and courage. The art is dynamic and sharp (WONDERFUL oranges and reds, which are becoming the series trademark...), the action is smooth and unhackneyed, and the ending isn't terribly sugary sweet... in fact it deals with the tricky matter of releasing someone from pain via death, a topic that would easily make it onto "a very Special E.R."... heh heh. Well, it plays like a rollicking action flick/fairytale, and there ain't nothing wrong with that.

Well, those are my nominees... and despite inhibitions, I think I'll end of tossing my lot in with ep 7. Yes, the Half Naked ep. Don't look at me that way, I gave a logical argument! I'm not one of those maniacal fangirls, honest!
*screencaps from the ep fall out of sketchbook*
.... Aheh.... yeah... *runs and HIDES*

I got yer offering RIGHT HERE!

Beginning in February (the 8th, I think), the SJ eps will be shown in their proper numerical order, beginning with "Episode IV."

Episode IV: Jack, the Woolies, and the Critchellites
Episode V: Jack vs. the Bugbots
Episode VI: Jack Meets "Ikra"
Episode VII (Lyra's favorite): Jack and the Blind Archers
Episode VIII: Jack vs. Mad Jack
Episode IX: Jack and the Triseraquins
Episode X: Jack and the Ultimate Warrior (Hoj-jo-ho-ho!)
Episode XI: Jack and the Scotsman
Episode XII: Jack and the Gangsters
Episode XIII: Aku's Fractured Fairy Tales
