Next episode, I think. Although you might hear some of the new voices this episode, if I recall.

Quincys kill Hollows. Soul Reapers cleanse Hollows, then kill them. Uryu, a Quincy, hates Soul Reapers, and therefore Ichigo. Ichigo, a Soul Reaper, thinks Uryu is annoying. Can't we all just get along?
At least they're on the same page. Kinda.
I think they'd better get to fixing that hole in the sky soon.
Eugh! It's No-Face's evil twin!

This is off topic, but I just realized that with that big sword Ichigo sorta resembles Cloud Strife. Now if Uryu had a long katana he'd resemble a certain one-winged angel or a badass samurai from another AS anime.

Best effing scene coming up for a while. Too hillarious :D And I love that picture of Ichigo chopping down the Menos.

Funny they didn't just cut this preview due to Kon talking about it...
Anywho, overall good episode.

The ending however isn't that bad. Out of all the other Jrap, this fits.

So, next episode, I guarantee some new voices will be heard.

But they still used the entire ending, but left out the character clip. So it's 25-75% chance that we'll see the custom SS endings. (Which means we'll see one custom ending over and over. )

AS fails forever for cutting out Kon's Ultimate Soul Reaper Guide.
Overall, its a decent episode. Bleach starts up at the end of next week's episode.

:sad: Glad you had something important to input into the episode.
Anyway, this was the first good arc of the series, to be followed by something that I'm sure will be extremely, incredibly painful to watch on a week-by-week basis, and will, much like most anime AS shows, make me pine for the days when they showed new eps of anime on weekdays rather than weekends. And no, no matter how many people try to tell me this way is "better" my opinion won't be changed, so don't waste your fingers typing out a post to tell me. :)

Hey, if the Japanese viewing audience had to suffer through a weekly airing, I guess it's only fair that we have to do the same

I hope they keep the Golden Cup. That was one of the reasons I made it through the whole arc.

Eh, "Thank You" isn't so bad. It's one of the better J-Rap song's I've heard. Especially from Home Made Kazoku, they have some pretty bad songs (glares at "Music & Communication"). I enjoy "Thank You" more than I enjoy "Happy People", which is the 4th ending theme and is also done by a J-Rap band (skoop on somebody).

Yeah, those were rather helpful in keeping track of the new characters in the upcoming obonxiously large cast addition.

Just to clarify things. The arc starts either in TWO episodes (the week after the marathon and Inuyasha movies) or in episode twenty-one, which doesn't come for a couple months. Episodes 16-21 are really a transition into the next arc, but they're VERY enjoyable episodes. The next episode is kind of a transition into those episodes with a cameo by two brand new main characters.
Just wanted to clarify.

Nice episode with a lot of content crammed into it. Uryu with Ichigo's sword on his head was definitely a funny moment.

Now that was one powerful attack.
Just curious... was this Ultimate Soul Reaper Guide thing an extra couple minutes tagged onto the end of a normal length episode (a la the My-Hime omakes), or was it something that was in the actual episode anyway but was just cut for time?

The regular illustrated guide just shows a picture of a new soul reaper in each episode with a crack remark by Kon. The golden version shows a funny scene at the end of each episode.

Even though the new characters are enjoyable in their own right, the following fact remains:

No real point cutting it, if they're including after-credit extras anyway.

I was in the dark about what everyone was griping about. Well yeah, that's a fairly pointless cut. But I assume it'll be on the DVDs?

Yeah, I think I'll screencap them and add them on my website this week though, for all the people who are missing out. They're mostly just mini-spoilers though.
Ah, we finally delve deeper into the whole "Ichigo has massive spirit energy" plot device...err...plot point. I do find it odd that the dub never stated that Uryu, like all Quincies, draw their power in from around them (unlike Soul Reapers, who draw their energy from within). Was this taken out in the Japanese version too?
And dammit, Urahara, pick a voice and stick with it! He went back to sucking during his first appearence, but then, when talking to Rukia later, he went back to being good. Make up your mind!

I don't know. The constant repeating of character motivation in relation of new characters and changing the position of existing characters and the constant changing of what it is to be a soul reaper has this show moving in circles. This could be a good show if they ever decide where they want it to go. At this point it feels as though they haven't a firm grip on how the after life works and can't even adapt the ideas they have in any order. I feel as though they keep thinking of stories and moving the base structure to try to support it. I once said they had to do something stupid to kill this story,,, so far it seems as though they are trying their best to do just that.

Was this taken out in the Japanese version too? This "power draw" difference I'd not considered. It's an idea that could give meaning to what seems to be meaningless character addition to add conflict and resolution.

Honestly, I really, really liked this episode. Probably my favorite so far.
Johnny Yong Bosch and Derek Stephen Prince really nailed it this week as Ichigo and Uryu... especially between trading barbs and fighting all those hollows. I've never been this excited after a "Bleach" episode, so they were really fun to listen to.
It's fun rereading the manga after watching, too, because it comes to me as to what I had forgotten happened or what I had missed during the show. This week, we learned why the Quincies have pretty much become extinct, why Ishida is trying to prove the more powerful 'force' now by doing what he does instead of going after the Soul Reapers for revenge, and Ichigo having so much untapped power to pick from that it's unreal.
Have I mentioned how cool that was watching Ichigo single-handedly take care of that Grand Hollow?
A prelude to the Soul Society arc, which is plentiful of great moments, I finally have the excitement for the "Bleach" anime that I should've had three months ago. (Then again, it took this long for the manga to get really good, too.)
"Back to Back, a Fight to the Death!": 8.5/10.

pretty decent episode. so do souls get re-incarnated? I'm wondering if that's part of the whole balance thing between earth and the "soul society".

I hated how Mr. Quincy was all about being a Quincy but has absolutely no justification for really messing things up with the balance of souls. And apparently none of the other quincys had any justification for it either. Which just makes them seem like stupid jerks.
I'm glad nanos grande (small in latin and large in spanish?) wasn't defeated, that would have been really cheesy.
The whole "I'm going to shoot arrows in the air to relieve Ichigo's energy" bit made no sense.

It's supposed to be MENOS Grande, "Big Negative" or something like that.
Yeah, Ishida was kind of an idiot here...but the Menos Grande wasn't his fault...

When Ichigo gets close to others, his energy seems to flow off onto them. It kind of keeps his powers under check, if you will. Since Ishida was right next to him, he could keep shooting arrows and Ichigo's excess energy would fill Ishida right back up again until he drained enough of it for Ichigo to be in a stable condition.
At least, I think this is how it works. I'd have to see the episode again to make sure.

Yeah, that's how Chad and Inoue are the way they are. They kind of explain that, just very vaguely. It's not a spoiler either.

Yea, that's the gist of it. Uryu moreso than Chad and Orihime since Uryu's powers come from drawing soul energy within himself, so Ichigo was like a nuclear reactor for Uryu.
