Talking ass, huh?
It sort of reminds me of Stroker & Hoop but not funny and with an ass.

Assy McGee Essay #1
Though crude on the surface, "Assy McGee" is a Godardesque look at television culture, the flaws of the American justice system, the idea of "happiness", the inherent flaws of western culture, the biological process of... (more)

Okay when i heard and seen the teasers for Assy McGee, you get this god awful feeling that someone definitely wanted to do a "Dirty Harry-esque" kind of show. and in a way This show does deliver that.
But come on a talking tush?
The first episode is so twisted it makes you wonder.. (did someone slip some drugs into the writer's soft drink?)
but as the plot progresses the show shifts gear from stupid to lame to finally weird. and believe me watching a talking tushy talking in a deep falsetto baritone makes you wonder... definitely why did the fans want this?
the chase scene was all hilarious.. all of 1 block...
but what is weirder is how Our hero figures out that the guy he killed is in someway linked to some other crime?
oh brother...
In the End, Assy McGee while sounding silly isn't Dirty Harry, heck he's not even Crocodile Dundee or even Steve Irwin... Let's just face it.. Assy is just a talking tush with a Dirty Harry Attitude.
Final Score for this episode? A 'C'... and if it does better next week then maybe this talking tush will make it to 13 episodes.. if not? Well then pass him the toilet paper...and flush this one down the zero G commode.
Nuff said.

Here's the million dollar question though-was this better than Minoriteam's first episode? It seems the two could duke it out for worst show on Adult Swim ever.

Assy would win. I actually laughed a bit with Assy. Minoriteam was just "there".

Minoriteam has more potential with its plot but as bad as Assy was... it was still funnier.

Yeah, Korgoth is definitely better than this. And I didn't like Korgoth.

Are you kidding me? The art on this is just as good if not better than Minoriteam and it moved a lot more fluidly than Minoriteam because Minoriteam was stuck with the whole comic book gimmick where they barely moved.

NEVER compare Bob the Ball with a talking ass. They just don't compare.
A talking posterior with an itchy trigger finger. This was SO much better than Korgoth.
As it is, it's...mediocre, but not excruciatingly bad. I assume that when the novelty of a walking, talking ass wears off however, it will quickly devolve into that.

Dang, if it weren't for a talking ass being the star of the show, I'd love the art style for this show. It's very stylized and evokes the type of color palette and lighting on cop shows really well. The animation itself is nothing special, but I love how it's drawn.

The premise is remarkably bad, but the episode itself was just kind of bland and forgetable (with admittedly one or two good lines).
Since the show is trying to be funny anyway, I think the gimmick of an ass being the main character has already gotten old. Part of me wishes it was a straight-forward hard-boiled cop drama that just happened to have an ass as a lead and didn't attempt humor, because that would work on an Andy Kaufman level for about 2/3 episodes. As the show stands, the joke didn't work for one episode.

At first I kinda thought this was going to be like Porco Rosso and do something deep like Assy is only an ass in his own mind due to something he did.
I probably shouldn't have put that much thought into this show, because it was ass.

This show was bad, but why so much heat about the main character? I mean one of AS's top shows has food items as protaganists.
Because the joke wasn't "Shake is a big cup", it was "Shake is completely socially and intellectually inept despite his attempts at showing everyone otherwise." The joke with Assy is that...he's an ass. And he farts.
Why they didn't just make an Assy pilot and gauge fan reaction I'll never know.

To be fair, in "Baffler Meal", much of the joke was that they were food items and that carried over somewhat in "Rabbot" and "Escape From Leprauchpolis". The difference was that those episodes were actually funny and the joke wasn't ALL that they were food items. And then by "Mothmonsterman", all the "they're food items, ha ha" jokes were pretty much gone.
The Nielsen ratings they gauge still measure 18-34. Until that changes, 18-34 is the primary audience, and probably could care less for endless fart jokes.

I should point out that I didn't laugh once at the episode (though I did find it somewhat amusing that they cut to a commercial for Metalpocalypse in the style of cop show ad breaks). Just because I like the art style doesn't mean I found it funny. Unless the writing drastically improves so that it doesn't have to rely on parodying all the standard cop show cliches, this show will be REALLY one-note. Plus, it's even debatable whether Assy McGee is parodying said shows, because it's basically copying them word for word so that it becomes its inspiration.
This really should've been a special instead of a full series.

So, how does the ass shoot his gun anyway? I mean, he has no hands. It just kind of floats there. Does he use telekinesis?
You know, this show may have some technical problems...no wait, technical isn't the right word...choreographical...no that's probably not a word...mechanical...no...artistic...no...damn it...don't you hate it when you want to say something and you can't remember the word that conveys your thoughts? Anyway, the fact that they never show the front...or back...of the ass may be hard to work around. I mean, they really can't do a lot of action scenes that involve the ass moving a lot. Of course, they could just blur out his penis or something, but they seem to be avoiding that so far. I mean, he didn't even sit down on the cab.
You know, I think this series may have worked better if the show was about a dick rather than an ass. I mean, at least then it would look like a person walking normally without an upper half. The way it is now he has to walk backwards and it's just weird looking.

I find it weird how people can't grasp the idea of a talking ass when a few weeks ago ATHF featured a talking phallus.
I love the design of the show. It could be a good show as long as they utilize every possibility of having the ass cop.

well it makes me wonder... Does Assy have an evil cousin by the the name of "Buttsy Malone?"
and yes, How in the Heck does Assy shoot his gun? No hands? Telekinesis? Phantom Limbs?! (Wait isn't Phantom Limb on Venture Brothers?)
But (no Pun Intended) isn't it weird watching a talking butt? But then we have talking foodstuffs, a Badly Drawn Talking Scribble (12 oz. Mouse) and even a badly planned "Davey and Goliath" style show... what's next??? A-Gumby-esque show where a lump of clay gets down right obnoxious?
but seriously... Assy Needs to go...(to the bathroom that is.. and flush himself.)

I don't think the show was going for a parody of cop show ad breaks, I think they just needed to fill in time because that wasn't there on the Fix. Ah. Well, even if it wasn't an intentional move, it brought up images of cop shows going, "Hill Street Blues will be back... right after this!" at a dramatic moment. It was like in the Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase when the announcer says, "Chief Wiggum P.I. will return.... right now!"

You're exactly right about the Shake thing. The same is true for Assy. even in the first ep, the joke is not that he's an ass, the joke is that he's a drunk who shoots first and asks questions later. Characters with such distict personalities are more accesable when put into any other character (animal, object, or in this case, body part) besides a human. Aqua Teen, Squidbillies, or even Looney Tunes wouldn't work if the characters were human. When you watch these shows, it isn't a constant consious thought "Oh, this is a milkshake/squid/bunny" The viewer is caught up in the personality. Chuck Jones said "its easier to humanize an animal than it is to humanize humans." The same holds true for Assy. It becomes more apparent in future episodes. Episodes 2 and 4 are pretty damn funny. And c'mon, Assy has the best one-liners.

Man, Assy McGee was just that. Ass. Seriously, it absolutely sucked. I'm guessing the show creators were sitting around drunk one night, the Family Guy episode with the show "Sherry and The Anus" on it was on, one guy turned to the other and said "Hey, I've got a GREAT idea...."
Wait, hold on a second. Does anyone even understand why they do these shows? It's obvious you guys don't (in general). The dick episode was just to make viewers angry and have a little random fun. It wasn't supposed to make you like it. To just call it the worst episode would be the lazy way out, but you can't compare stuff like that to other episodes. The episode was honestly in it's own field. The same goes for this show. It's apparent that AS knows this show will tick a lot of viewers off, they even said it in a ton of bumps.
The show isn't aiming for witty social commentary. It's just a cop-show parody with a talking ass. Sure, it's not hysterical, but I watched the whole thing with a smile on my face and had a blast laughing about it's one-liners with my friends the next day (I have your email on this bullet. Don't make me hit send. was a popular one). A lot of AS fans just don't take shows for what they are meant to be for. It's always a huge race to see how much you can badmouth a show on it's first episode then to actually think about what it is trying to accomplish and give it a fair and unbiased chance. Many will deny that they were biased going into it, but 90% of the comments on here before the premiere were negative.
This is coming from someone who sat through the entire series of Minoriteam. I watched the whole season (well it's the whole series now, but whatever) and although it wasn't great, I still liked the art and sometimes it made me laugh every 5 episodes. It was entertaining enough to sustain my interest. So can I fairly say a good and fair opinion about the series now? Sure. I've seen it all, I know it's highs and lows, so it's only fair to judge it as what it is.
All I'm saying is, watch at least half the episodes (there's only 6 so it shouldn't be awful to do it), and if you don't like it then, don't watch it anymore. But to totally dismiss the show after one episode.. c'mon.

Originally, I wasn't even going to try to watch this show. Because I knew where they were going with this. A talking ass? Fart Jokes Central, anyone?
But you know what? I was bored today, so I gave it a shot. Or two. Or twenty, even. (Okay, not really twenty.)
Yes, there was farting. But otherwise... I was surprised. That was a lot more amusing and hilarious than I really expected. I mean seriously, out of all of the unexpected things... the first thing we see Assy do is get out of his car and kill five cops and the coroner. Unbelievable! Sure, you wouldn't want to be a policeman in the same city as Assy, but still...
Some other funny parts... the chase around the block (literally) and Assy shooting the 'John Adams' guy at the end, saying he's got only one bullet left... and then he fires a good deal more than that.
I love how the show looks. A good rendition of one of those cop shows... and that's coming from a person who only gets as close as watching the ads of said shows.
I think "Assy McGee" requires you to let go of logic... yes, it's a talking ass, with no visible eyes, ears, mouth, arms, or hands, yet it's holding a gun. And, if anything, I've just glanced at the most beautiful behind in animation history. That's grade-A looking ass there.
There's definitely the question of whether there are enough ideas to make this work as a full series. You know what, though? I think this did more than enough to at least make sure I come back another week or two.
"Murder by the Docks": 7/10.
