This is my first FanFiction so I'm sorry if it sucks. I've actually never written anything before to please give me feedback whether or not you like it or not. Please don't be mean. It's called A DOVE IN THE MYST. It features two new characters that I invented. now for Chapter 1:

A Dove In The Myst
Chapter 1: The Warning

1
The city. Entertainment district. Midnight. The foggy streets were deserted, save for a dark figure shrouded in black walking along the abandoned sidewalk. A cape of mist flowed off of its back, as if the figure was leaving an imprint of its existence in the night air. The figure… person… thing stepped into a pool of blue moonlight shining through the shroud. It had black charred skin that seemed to emit mist from its depths. It had no visible mouth, and its face merely looked like a waxy outline of a human one. Where its eyes should have been, faint white lights shined out of small round holes. The figure walked back into the dark shroud and continued down the deserted sidewalk.
It stopped outside a small pub and entered. The mist from outside seemed to follow him in, crawling along the floor and covering up the stained wood. The inhabitants of the pub looked up from their card games and quiet discussions to stare at the silhouette of the dark figure. What little noise that was once in the low-ceilinged place was gone. Everyone seemed unable to take their eyes away from this new view.
The figure took another step, walking further into the pub. Some of the people in their chairs leaned back, trying to get as far away as possible from this thing. The bartender put down the glass he was cleaning and broke the uneasy silence that filled the room.
“We don’t want no trouble,” he said in what he thought was a tone of superiority. The figure turned its attention to the bartender. The man whimpered as it felt something crawling up its leg. He looked down and let out an expression of shock; a thin wisp of fog was curling up his leg, which felt immovable. He looked up at his bar, and to his horror he saw that the rest of his guests had strands of fog climbing up their legs as well. “What do you want?” he asked the figure in the doorway.
He never knew and would never know, for at that instant, the figure quickly backed out of the pub and ran out into the night. The fog that followed him in shot back out the door, leaving no trace of it ever being there. The bartender reached down and pressed the red button underneath the counter.

The light next to Robin’s bedside blinked red. A buzzing alarm rang through the tower. He sat up in his bed, unalarmed. Beast Boy jumped and fell out of his warm bed at the sound of the alarm. He looked at the clock. 12:07 a.m. Who in their right mind would be up at this hour? Starfire sat up in her bed and spoke out loud. “Who is it?” She yawned as the sound of the alarm buzzed through her room. Cyborg opened his eyes and looked into the darkness. He sighed, reached to his side, and pulled out the plug from his waist. “Here we go again,” he mused. Raven shot up, her hair falling gracefully to the side of her head. Whoever had the nerve to wake her up in the middle of the night was going to pay…big time.
Seven minutes later, the team stood on the shores of Titan Island, looking over the horizon of the city. A great shroud of fog entwined and circled around the city. “That’s weird,” Beast Boy said.
“What?” Raven.
“In all the years I’ve spent here, I’ve never seen fog in this city.
“It’s just fog, Beast Boy,” Starfire said.
Robin spoke. “As harmless as it may seem, it might be bad for us. This fog will make it hard for us to find whoever it is we’re after.”
“Can we please go?” Cyborg asked. “The sooner we catch this person, the sooner we can go back to bed.”
“Right,” Robin said. “You all ready?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” Cyborg replied. A wave of pride and excitement came over the team. Beast Boy jumped into the air and effortlessly morphed into a pterodactyl. Robin hopped up on his back as Starfire picked up Cyborg. Raven twirled on spot and morphed into a huge black shadow of a crow. The team flew across the bay and landed on the outskirts of the city.
“We shouldn’t go too much further in until we know what we’ll be doing,” Robin said. “First we need to know where we’re going.”
“Entertainment district,” Cyborg said. “It was on the scanner.”
“Right,” Robin said. “Cyborg, Raven, and I will take the ground. Beast Boy, you and Starfire take the sky. Alert us if you see anything out of the ordinary.”
“You mean like this fog?” Beast Boy asked.
“We’re wasting time,” Robin said. “Go!”
“Alright! Someone can’t take a joke!”
The two of them went airborne and disappeared into the foggy sky.
Robin, Cyborg, and Raven began their walk through the dark city. Their footsteps echoed against the hollow silence of the sleeping towers. Robin could almost taste the uneasiness that settled in between the three of them. He, like Beast Boy, had never seen the city this foggy. In fact, he had never seen even a little bit of fog in this city. When the three of them came to an intersection, they split up. Raven went to the left, Cyborg straight down the center, and Robin took the right street.
They would soon meet again.

The dark figure entwined in the mist ran through the ever-growing fog. It turned a corner into a black alleyway. The smell of something cooking caressed his face and entered the slits in his face. It was meat. Red meat. The figure slowed down and came to a halt to smell the aroma of the food. It inclined its head up and scented the smell once more, thinking of its past life…when it could eat whatever and whenever it desired to. That life was long gone, and would never come back.
The figure gave up on the smell and turned back to the mission at hand. It continued down the alleyway and into the clearing ahead. As it came out on the other side, it came face to face with one of the five things it was looking for.

Robin stood stunned at the thing before him. It looked at him and hissed before letting out a scream that sounded more like a screech. It gave him chills that swept down his spine. “You!” he shouted. “Identify yourself.”
In the time it took for Robin to blink his eyes, the thing…whatever it was…went from being twenty feet away to twenty inches away. Robin took a step back as he got a closer look at its face. What seemed to be patches of dry black material was falling from its face and reproducing itself from somewhere beneath the skin, which was also black. Its white eyes showed no sign of having pupils and what ever was once its face was now just a blur. Robin reached to his belt and pulled out his staff. “Identify yourself and leave or I’ll attack.”
But the thing didn’t move. Not even in the least bit.
“I’m warning you!” Robin shouted, taking another step back.
The thing, whatever it was, seemed to have turned to stone. Robin swung at it, but when it hit the part of the creature that should have been its shoulder, the staff continued to go through. For a split second, Robin feared that he had gone too far. He was afraid that his staff had gone through the helpless creature like a sword through wet paper. But he was wrong. As he finished his swipe, he noticed the outline of the thing beginning to fade. In fact, the whole thing was fading. Robin gawked at what was before him…or rather wasn’t before him.
The creature had evaporated.

Starfire and Beast Boy soared above the city effortlessly. Star used her Tamoranian powers to levitate while Beast Boy glided along the air currents effortlessly with his pterodactyl wings. Starfire broke the silence.
“Beast Boy, I have an idea,” she said. Beast Boy looked at her. “Use your wings to clear the fog below us. Do you understand my meaning?”
Beast Boy nodded his pointed head and dove a few feet below. He hovered above the street and, with a powerful blow from his wings he cleared a few layers of the fog. He repeated this half a dozen more times before most of the fog had cleared from this section of the street. Starfire’s and Beast Boy’s jaws both dropped at what they saw.
A black figure with what seemed to be mist coming off of its skin was running along the sidewalk towards the suburbs of the city. It tuned behind a building out of sight. Beast Boy dove down to the sidewalk and morphed into a cheetah. With grace and beauty, he ran down the street after the black figure. Starfire glided overhead. They turned the corner to see nothing but an empty street leading into the darkness.
Beast boy morphed back into his usual green human form and said, “Where’d he go?”
“Where did it go?” Starfire responded.

Raven glided through the empty streets chanting her words of meditation to herself. “Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos… Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos… Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos…” she stopped as she noticed movement out of the corner of her eyes. She turned to the right, bearing her spheres of energy in her hands. “Show yourself!” she yelled.
Out of the darkness stepped a figure engulfed in silver mist. It spun around the figure’s body like it was a part of the thing itself.
“Who are you?” Raven asked. The thing merely stared at her. “Who are you?” she repeated. Nothing. “Identify yourself. This is your last chance before I attack.”
A faint rushed noise came from somewhere around the being. Heh heh heh.. It took raven a moment to realize that the thing, whatever it was, was laughing at her. With all the anger she could muster, she threw two spheres of energy at the thing. To her great distress, the thing evaporated and reappeared again right next to the spot where is once stood, which was now being hit with Raven’s energy.
She charged at the thing. Once again the thing evaporated and reappeared; only this time it reappeared a few feet away from her. She turned as it kicked her in the face. She fell back onto the ground, her nose throbbing. The thing leaned over her and whispered in a deep oily voice, “Leave this world now. Return to Azarath immediately.”
“Who are you?” she whispered.
In the alley across the street, the sound of a trash can fell over ringing out into the emptiness of the night.
The thing leaned closer to Raven and whispered once again. When it spoke, she had to lean in close to hear it properly. “Beware of the White One.” With that, the thing pushed itself up and backed up into the street.
In the alley across the street, Robin emerged running out of the darkness with his staff wielded. “Raven, look out!” he called.
The thing looked at Raven one last time. “Remember my words, Raven. Beware of the White One.” It held its hands up high and then slammed them down onto the ground. Instantly, a huge pillar of black smoke erupted at least ten feet into the air. It cleared quickly, showing that the thing had gone. Very suddenly, Raven noticed that the shrouds of fog began to quickly disappear, clearing her surroundings.
Robin ran over to her and helped her up. “Are you okay?” he asked.
She didn’t answer. The other three Titans emerged from different places around her. They were all safe. The final words of the dark figure were ringing in her ears.
Beware of the White One
Who was this White One? Was it a friend or a foe? And more importantly, why should she be cautious of it?
