From Hollywoodreporter.com:

"Cartoons aren't just for kids. That's what Turner's Cartoon Network hopes to prove with "Adult Swim," a new three-hour animated block aimed at an adult 18-34 year demographic it will launch September 2, network officials said today. "Adult Swim" will air Sunday and Thursday night from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET. The block will consist of new episodes of its original animated series "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" along with five other series that will run on a rotating basis. Series will include new episodes of "Home Movies" about an awkward third grader named Brendon Small, and "Sealab 2021," an update of an Hanna-Barbera production about an undersea city. The futuristic cartooon will feature the voice of actor Erik Estrada of "Chips" fame. Cartoons in "Adult Swim" will come with a either a TV-PG or TV-14 rating. The block is aimed at Cartoon Network's sizable adult audience. "Almost one-third of our viewers are adults over 18, so it's a natural extension of our progamming to create new shows specifically for an aduly audience," Cartoon Network President Betty Cohen said."

Thank god, this is some good Cartoon Network news. TV-PG, TV-14, will we be seeing Justice League here? YESSSSSS...... :)

Wow, great! I've been waitng for new Space Ghost! I doubt Justice League would be here, though, it seems to fit into the Toonami block, which is where I think they've said it would go. It would probably get the highest ratings there too. I'm hoping that they're going to schedule some classic Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, etc.

I think I'll copy this and paste it at Termite Terrace... giving credit to you, of course.:D

New Space Ghost! NEW SPACE GHOST!! After months on hiatus! Thank you, sweet Jesus and any other deities in the general vicinity!

Ahem, sorry about going fan-boy there. What I meant was, "I believe I am somewhat interested in new episodes of Space Ghost."

(hee hee hee! New Space Ghost! :D :D :D :D :D )

Access Atlanta (http://www.accessatlanta.com/partners/ajc/newsatlanta/0609cartoon.html) provides more details on the type of edy programming to expect on the new "Adult Swim," (As in "All kids out of the pool, adults swim"). block

"All kids out of the pool"?

I wouldn't bet the farm on that. Heck, I wouldn't even bet the scrap paper on that. The scent of Forbidden Fruit will undoubtedly lure in kids by the boatload (and I'm refering to aircraft carriers.)

Make that three. The first one, Mike Lazzo and Betty Cohen are couple of geniuses. Nick-at-Nite talking about Un-Reality, well Cartoon Network got more Un-reality than before! The second one, I hope the critics won't say that the Cartoon Network has gone to far, because Cartoon Network is my future job. Third, about that comment, "All kids out of the pool!" at 1a.m. est. The following Townsville Inmates will have Pool Cleaning Duties:

Fuzzy Lumpkins
Mojo Jojo
and The Gangreen Gang

a little humor. Please don't say it's not funny.

I'm not at all sure I'd want to have that lot cleaning *my* pool. Think of all the hair in the filters!

My suggestions for this new adult block? Well, the Barbequor & Dexter's Rude Removal eps of DM4M & D'sL; Buffalo Gals & No Smoking from Cow & Chicken; & of course the Censored 11 & other politically incorrect classic toons. Include Tom & Jerry toons like His Mouse Friday & Mouse Cleaning, & unedited stuff like the uncut Droopy's Good Deed. Oh, & prolly should include --- brace yourselves, especially Colin & other TTA fans ---

(elephant issues) AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know, I hated it too. "One Beer' & I was physically ill. Oh, & the final ep of RoRos with the Sonov-Ovich number. And the one with Chuck & Di restored; why not, they're showing the Princess Di ep of F! again. Just some thots, but they're good 'uns. Just wish they could show Inherit the Wheeze; it's a cinch Nick isn't gonna anytime soon.

This is the first time I've heard about Nick having problems with 'Inherit the Wheeze'- what's their objection? Surely not concern about it having a bad influence on the kids?

Hair would be the least of your worries. That lot strikes me as the sort who would find it humorous to relieve themselves into the water.

I thought it might be a bit much for the under-seven crowd (a smoking mouse? Aaaah!) the first time I saw it...but nothing a small disclaimer and watching it with a parent (hopefully with the second even the first won't be needed) wouldn't take care of nicely.

To be honest, I don't understand Space Ghost. He annoys or abuses each guest, shoots or berates his employees regularly, and seems incompetant at best. In one episode he forgot all about taping his show and spent ten minutes tracking a bug crawling along the ground. What's the point?

I had a very similar reaction to 'Welcome to the Jungle'- the only P&tB ep which I would rate Y7 for violence. Is Nick gonna sit on that ep too?

Well, it is a very specific kind of humor, and not to everybody's taste.

I can think of several more animated programs which meet that description. The cartooning profession does have a reputation for attracting 'fringe' types.

I pretty certain 'Welcome to the Jungle' has aired at least twice on Nick, unless my eyes are being relentlessly strained from too much slime causing me to lose the ability to distinguish the eps, poit.

Now that seems odd to me. Nick objects to an ep demonstrating the perils of smoking, but not to one where the main characters come close to being burned to death?

Sounds like a scenario Jay Ward would invent. (In fact, I think he did.)

Good ideas. And some b&w toons and some silents as well. A mix of old and new. I'd be in heaven. It's a bout time !
