I distinctly remember watching shaman king on CN but how long was it on for?

Shaman King had 4 episodes on one Saturday on CN in the US, so 2 hours. That is all that aired in the US on CN.

No one knows why they only aired 4 episodes, but it's believed it was a test run to see if they should pick up Shaman King, and apparently CN didn't think it performed well enough to warrant a pick-up.

They did the same thing with Megaman. It was on the late "Saturday Block Party," where many Transformers Energon episodes premiered.

I think it was just a one time stunt - nothing more, nothing less. At the time, CN's rebranding was still rather new and the "Saturday Block Party" in need of shows to marathon, so they used Shaman King (right around the time they and 4K!DS were quite cozy with each other).

But I doubt they ever intended it to see if it would be worth a pick-up. There are much better places than Saturday afternoons for that.

Wasn't the marathon 3 hours? Making it so 6 episodes had premiered.

It was 6 for the Energon marathon at least.

No. When they originally began the Saturday block party, it was indeed 3 hours, but within a month they lowered the Saturday Block Party to 2 hours and replaced the third hour with the Cartoon Cartoon Show. There were actually 3 Energon marathons that debuted 14 episodes, but they only aired 6 episodes the first time around.
