Almost as funny as the fact that there's a movie called "The Magic Pudding" is the current IMDB review tagline
"No Magic in this pile of pudding"

John Cleese! plays "Albert the magic pudding"-that alone makes me want to get my own magical pudding now.

And now SHOW COMMENTARY:
AWESOME Ep, a huge return to form after a couple of slow weeks (at least for me). There were several laugh out loud moments in this: (well my son died.............................GOOOD NEWS ITS MONDAY, shoo shoo little boy, Brindon's explosion). I love the reveal that the mayor has a HUGE house, a wife who actually looks like a female, and three clone? children. I also love the fact it ended on a down note with Tom still completely insane weeping on the mayors floor despite the mayor's prayers to Zeus

4/5

This was a great episode. Crazy Tom is good Tom. Also, Brindon's death was awesome.

There was a bit of a "call forward" to the next episode, in this episode too. Joy's ex from the next episode, was next to David Cross, Joy's other ex at Brindon's party at Gullivers. He is the guest star of the next episode, and season finale of Tom Goes to the Mayor.

"The Amazing Pudding" was the working title for Pink Floyd's 1970 psychedelic orchestral epic "Atom Heart Mother".

This has nothing to do with Tom except that I think Bob Odenkirk seems to have magic powers and could probably get Pink Floyd to guest star on Tom as well.

Was the music a parody of anything when The Mayor was riding his scooter? It sounded like an ABC drama or something.

Is Paul Reubens the new AS mascot (a la Space Ghost a few years back)? Lets see if he pops up in ATHF or Birdman when their respective seasons start...

This episode was hilarious AND disturbing...which isn't really anything new for Tim and Eric, but the ending left me confused as to my overall enjoyment of the episode...

This episode was brutal, I loved the mayor's complete apathy towards the death of Tom's son. It always cracs me up whenever they misspell tom's name, and the scenes with the live action food were great.

This was an AMAZING episode. So incredibly dark and deranged...but I was really surprised when the Mayor went home and prayed with his family. A moment of near-sanity for him.

Was the music a parody of anything when The Mayor was riding his scooter? It sounded like an ABC drama or something.

I recognized it, too, but now that I want to name it I draw a blank. Whatever it is I know I'm familiar with it...don't you just hate that?

Aw man, that episode.. was brutally awesome. Do you think he'll stay dead or just come back the next episode like Jan did (I just assumed that Tom's suicide was a failure)?

Paul was a good choice for the episode, but that's not suprizing. What was suprizing, though, was The Mayor having a decent-looking family and a nice house to go to, I just assumed he was single and lived in an apartment building somewhere. The ending was really dark though, my eyes were wide open watching it.

I guess, to me, Tom Goes is the only show on Adult Swim that actually makes me feel bad for the characters in it when bad things happen to them.

This one really pulled it up there for me. Nice work. 5/5

Wow, season 2's message boards for Tom are like the complete opposite of last season's. Everyone used to be like "Man, I hate Tom." "CANCEL CANCEL CANCEL!" "Worst thing ever to happen to mankind."

This show is great, was great, and getting greater. LOL PeeWee lives on Adult Swim! Honestly, give that guy a new original show or something.

As for this week's episode, it was hillarious. I'll admit, I felt bad for poor Brindon with none of the kids showing any respect during the assembly. But I also couldn't help but laugh. He had 11 plates of food and he blows up! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. So is it really going to only be Brandon and Brendon?

Popcorn Pudding? Ew. Then again, they've made popcorn jelly beans (as well as Peanut Butter) and don't forget those gross sounding Jones Sodas (Turkey and Gravy soda.)

This show needs a 3rd season for sure.

Also, I need to get me a copy of The Magic Pudding! John Cleese!!!

I loved it from the beginning, but season 2 is definitely better.

I hated it from the beginning. I will say that it's improved greatly but I still feel it's one of the weakest shows on AS. I'm not demanding it's cancellation but I don't enjoy it either. It's like Minoriteam at this point.

I hated it from the beginning.

REALLY???? you don't say! I'm sure noone had any idea!!!

(and for a show you've hated from the begining you never seem to miss a single episode or the need to talk about this show you hate.)

Face it the Myst-not only do you not hate it.................YOU LOVE IT.
It's ok though-come to jefferton, stop by gullivers, wave to the kids at pipe camp, I'll even contribute to a post-gullivers sauceman's binge, have a tiny piano on me.

It was necessary to start it that way though.

Also, I have my reasons for never missing an episode.

First, there are occasionally good episodes or moments.
Second, I like the guest stars that they get.
Third, I have a streak going. I've never missed an episode and I'm obsessive-compulsive. I have to keep up my streak.
Fourth, there's nothing else on at this time.
Fifth, I'm obsessive-complusive, I need to round it out to five. Also, I just remembered another point I wanted to make. I never miss an episode of any Adult Swim show, no matter how much I dislike it, because I am that big of a loser. So there you go.

The same restaurant where Brindon pulled a Mr. Creosote caters his memorial service.

Paul Reubens is slowly taking over [adult swim] one show at a time.

Loved Tom's grieving process. "Guess who's son died."

having Gibbons as an "uncle" is probably what made him eat himself to death  that poem was pretty awful! no! more live action random food sequences! :crying: Toms grieving pudding fast brindon shrine was real screwy. :( what the heck the Mayor has everything Tom should have! and does this mean he really does remember Tom every episode??

wow

Man, and I thought "Rebirth" was dark humor. This was full on disturbing.

The weirdest scene was seeing The Mayor go home and pray. Oddly enough, breaking the dark pattern of the show actually made it darker. Though it was funny to see his sons.

That being said I still found this pretty amusing. And really why is Paul Reubens everywhere all of the sudden

Great episode but I think, most standout part was crazy Tom and his ant friends.

Wow... that was almost as dark as Scott Tenorman, and that's the darkest thing I've ever seen.

The mayor was great here, and him praying with his family(first time weve seen them I think) was unexpected.

EDIT: crap, I took too long to post and now it just looks like I copied landstander's post. dammit.

Fair enough-I was just wondering why even bother with a show you hate so much (ex. I hate 12ozmoz and i'm turning the tv off now). I was just being a smart ass I wasn't really trying to make fun of you or your viewing habits I apologize if it came off that way

***and the song that plays when the Mayor drives to his house is either the theme from Desperate Housewives or Twin Peaks (I haven't seen Twin Peaks in YEARS so I have no clue if it's even close).

EDIT TO ADD-Landstander nailed it, it's from American Beauty

THE EPISODE:

-Tom's car with "Guess whose son died!" on it was gold.
-The Mayor prays to Zeus. Awesome.
-The Mayor has multiple pictures of Tom on his mantle. Wow.
-The crazy ending was... crazy.

See, I don't hate everything the show does, just most of it.

All in all, standard Tom. What did Paul Reubens do?

RATING: D (Equal to The Simpsons this week, if anyone's keeping track. I don't know whether that means The Simpsons has gotten worse or if Tom has improved. I think a little of both.)

To put it into perspective, I've seen every episode of every AS show with the exceptions of Ghost In The Shell (One or two escape me), Inuyasha (Five or six escape me), Sealab (Just one: Casinko), Space Ghost, Brak, and Home Movies (Because of erratic airing and the various episodes of Space Ghost that will never air again).

God I need a life.

what the heck the Mayor has everything Tom should have!

Well, I'm not sure I would say Tom should have all that. I mean, does Tom actually have any good qualities? He's not very smart. He's not in good shape. He lets people walk all over him. He's also too dorky to swear. I used to feel kind of bad for him during the first season, but now I kind of feel that he gets what he deserves. Not that the mayor deserves a nice home and a nice wife either...

I'm not sure where you would get Desperate Housewives from, that show has a rather cheery theme song.

Anyway, I'm surprised so many of you liked this episode, I didn't care for it. It kind of reminded me of the Moral Orel Christmas episode. Yeah, it was dark...but...where's the joke?

I used to feel kind of bad for him during the first season, but now I kind of feel that he gets what he deserves.

that's sort of how I gradually felt as well. He has shown himself to be not as much of a "nice guy down on luck" as he first appeared to be, which have mades the jokes on him easier to take. Except no one deserves Joy; No one is that bad.

What tom really deserves is a relatively decent studio apartment and to be single because of his wimpiness.

Tom seems to revel in his misery though which makes him even less sympathetic. Look at him in this episode. He advertised his son's death to everyone for the attention.

I'm not sure where you would get Desperate Housewives from, that show has a rather cheery theme song.Deperate House Wives is Danny Elfman; The music that everyone thinks sounds familliar was very Thomas Newman-esque (a la American Beauty or Jarhead). It had the same 'twang' technique.

EDIT: Damn you Landstander. >=/

Out of all the disturbing things on this episode, I think I was most disturbed by the Puddin's restaurant having a projector screen right outside for the Mayor to use. I dunno why that is.

I also found it hilarious that the Mayor lives in such a swanky house. I guess that's how he came to be the Mayor of a dump like Jefferton.

Gobias

This was definitely a dark episode, but what about "Spray a Carpet or Rug"? That was much darker than this, considering Tom kills many, many people in that, and then kills himself. And who can forget that episode's ending? The Mayor being Satan, and his office being hell was truly scary! The finale also has an unconcious Tom, Joy's ex, and the Mayor going off a cliff. Not sure if that counts as being as dark or "trippy".

And who can forget that episode's ending? The Mayor being Satan, and his office being hell was truly scary!Well it's the presentation I think. The Mayor being Satan wasn't really presented with any realism (nor really the bunch of people dying), but I think this one was very straight-forwardly about Tom being miserable about his son's death and no one else really caring (except perhaps kind of the Mayor in a scene that wouldn't be as disturbing on any other show).

A ton of people got killed in Korgoth and I didn't really find that "dark". Too cartoony.

A ton of people got killed in Korgoth and I didn't really find that "dark". Too cartoony. Okay, the deaths in "Spray a Carpet or Rug" were very cartoony, and I guess they weren't dark. I'll agree with that. But the Mayor being Satan was really scary in my opinion. The Mayor's laidback demeanor, that always leads to something awful, is (and I'm not even religious... at all.) a sure-fire canidate for some "dark lord" of sorts.

When you think about it, the Mayor is incredibly creepy. The backdrop of his awful office, and Jefferton don't help that matter at all. When it is finally revealed that he is in fact Satan, I can't help but just feel disturbed. I saw it coming, but still it remains incredibly scary.

It's also oddly symbolic. Maybe it's suggesting that hell is in fact these awful ruts we get ourselves into. Jefferton is trapped in some kind of artificial wasteland. It for all intents and purposes is hell. A bit like Delaware. :P Overall, that episode remains the darkest episode of TGTTM to me.

This episode had a few humorous moments but I didn't think it was that good overall. Once Tom went insane, the episode was pretty much over but they just kept going with nothing new that was funny from then on. Funniest parts were seeing the Mayor's odd family and once again, Tom's name being misspelled in several different ways.

I liked this show a lot in season one. Bear Traps, Porcelain Birds, Vehicular Manslaughter, Pipe Camp, Rats Off To Ya, all such funny episodes, plus some other decent ones. This season, I have only had really good laughs at My Big Cups, Bass Fest, and Spray a Carpet or Rug. The rest, I'll admit they are bizarre but not much to laugh at otherwise.

The "Needs more rhyming! C-" written on Tom's poem about his dead mother was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. I love this show.
