We had a bunch of new-to-AS Family Guy episodes recently and more are coming in the Fall. However, it's Fox counterpart American Dad hasn't been seen on Adult Swim in quite some time and it doesn't seem to be on the schedule any time soon either. Does anyone know whether Adult Swim dropped it, whether it is just on extended hiatus, whether Fox is causing problems, or otherwise?

Maybe they thought it wasn't as good as Family Guy and quit using the rerun rights they have.
Nowhere near as many American Dad episodes as Family Guy/Futurama ones. Considering the ratings it got, Adult Swim would be foolish to outright cancel it, especiallly when you factor in that it's a second-run show.

It's a complete ripoff of Family Guy, Seth McFarline's own show.
But new episodes are comming to [adult swim] soon.

Why do people keep saying that when it's not true.

I don't think AS dropped it, I think it's just taking a break while Season 2 of Venture Brothers premeirs on Sunday. (Which is fine with me-hours of Seth shows can get a little grating).
As far as the show itself goes-I dunno if it's going to ever 100% succeed on it's own. It had a mediocre first season where it frequently struggled to distinguish itself from Family Guy. I think it has for the most part succeed (the show is way more political, doesn't overuse cutaway gags like FG, and the characters have finally started to find personalities distinct from the FG counterparts). On the other hand some of the episodes have fallen flat, and it's hard to tell how much of it's initial success is due to time slot success.
Like I say-AS isn't going to drop a show like this, especially considering Futurama is on it's way out, but I don't know how long the show itself is going to last.

You know I think I remeber a bump AS did awhile back talking about Family Guy and American Dad. They congragulated Seth on the pick up of Family Guy and American Dad for another season. They then said new episodes of American Dad were coming in 2007, I thougth they meant Fox but since Fox will be showing the new season of American Dad this Sunday, I guess 2007 is when Adult Swim will be showing the new episodes.

That would make sense. I'm fairly sure that AS wants to show the remaining chunk of season one and some season two episodes when they start airing to have a decently long "premiere" run of the show, and by the time there would be enough eps for that 2006's already packed, so they're saving AD for 2007. Because I also really doubt they'd give up on the show since it always got at least solid ratings and wouldn't cancel out they're contract to show the eps for no reason whatsover.

Yeah it hasn't been on in quite some time nor does it show up in on the advance schedule AS puts up. I mean sheesh... at least rerun the first 13 or so (whatever they have). Beats two Futurama on weekdays IMO. They should be grooming AD to be a replacement for Futurama not completing shafting it like this.

 "McFarline"
Uh, anyway, yeah I expect that when the new season is done they'll run it.

How could AS cancel it? Fox holds all rights to the show.

AS should be rerunning it, I'd really like to see the episodes again.
It might be an issue with Fox, since there have been weird contractual issues in the past. Otherwise I can't fathom why they don't air it.

Adult Swim can cancel Adult Swim's run of American Dad.

Yeah, especially considering even The Oblongs and Mission Hill got weekday runs (not that I'm complaining about that at all), I'm suprised that American Dad hasn't reappeared on Sundays or had a weekday stint. Thus, I'm also wondering if it is an issue with Fox.

 "McFarline" :lol:You don't need to make fun of him. We've all made mistakes or typed something stupid at some point here on Toon Zone.

Good gravy, your right. American Dad is a rip-off of Family Guy. Wait a minute. Nuclear family, stupid dad...Family Guy is a rip-off of The Simpsons. No, wait, a crazy dad with a crazy family? The Simpsons is a rip-off of Married with Children.
See how stupid this arguement is?

It's a stupid comment period when the Smiths are a smarter and well balanced family compared to the Griffins.

They really are different shows :\
I hope it stays on AS. There's no reason it shouldn't. Personally, I don't think it's as funny as Family Guy, but I think it still deserves a time slot on AS.

All I know is that the season premeire of American dad was funnier than Family Guy this Sunday(The first time I can ever remember totally thinking an ep of AD was way better)...And they are really totally different shows as AD relies alot on political humour and most of it's jokes do rely on the plot of the episode unlike FG's totally non-sensical and plot-ignoring comedy which is hit or miss...AD is not a rip-off in any manner but it being another Family based outrageous comedy and Seth McFarland's animation and voice-overs...The content is totally different...
