Rolling Cloud
09-01-2006, 08:03 PM
Air Date: 9/1/06

TV Rating: TV-PG V (according to the fix)

Summary: The threat of an approaching Federation Forces fleet creates a big problem for the crew of the Gekko. But Eureka is still unwell and it may be because she is in such close proximity to the mines. And, then for some reason, Eureka takes the Amita Drive from the Nirvash causing it to take off into the depths of the mines with Eureka in it. Renton goes after her, never suspecting the tragedy that waits at the end of his search.

Well, that episode is moving from TV-PG to TV-14, so hopefully it will be intact.

Thank goodness, because this one was a snoozer even though it's a set up for next week. I guess I don't have much to say other than it felt weird seeing the kids actually fearful of their mom (Eureka) and seeing another Holland-Renton confrontation at the end.

A lowly, generous 6 this week for "Acperience-2."

Damn, this series amazes me, and this episode was no different. Seriously, I was astonished with what I saw, and Im loving what happens when ever Renton has an emotional "stir". Geez, I really wanna know what the hell happened.

Huzzah, they finally get out of the cave. I figured they would've been gone in two episodes, not more than that. Interesting episode, though, not exactly a great one. Managed to keep you on edge, but I wasn't surprised that they all ended up escaping safely. I found the scene with Holland punching his fist when he thought Renton ran off to be funny, because he really looked like wanted to beat the crap out of him again. I'm shocked that he didn't:sweat: .

I give A2 a B-.

You know I'm really going to be glad whenever Holland stops "running away" and stops beating on Renton for all his problems. First thinking it was him who took the Nirvage and then telling him not to pilot it ever again. I mean it really wasn't Renton's fault at all and he had no right to really be yelled at liked that. Otherwise though I thought this was a good ep. I liked the weird dream sequence with Eureka trying to find her book and it being a metaphor for the emptiness she feels as well as Renton saving her from being trapped in the cave in that... whatever it is gunk she's in. Things should hopefully smooth over between then, since it's his desire to protect her that actiivated those trapar waves and all. Anyway if this was only set up then next week's should be even better and that (along with the other AS anime that are airing) are good reasons to keep watching next Saturday.

About damn time they got out of that stupid cave. Maybe now the episodes will pick up.

And yea, include me in the "Holland's-running-away-from-whatever-and-beating-up-Renton phase better end soon" camp.

that.

word.

how can you expect people with those backgrounds to act differently? do you essentially want no one to be ever allowed to have any emotions, period? even if their parents are diemboweled right in front of them, they have to get over it within 2 minutes or are wusses?

the word emo CANNOT apply to people who are in REAL dangerous situations! It is the very opposite of the definition!

I'm not expecting them get over things. I don't even know what happened previously. All I know is I tuned in and for 22 minutes listened to Eureka and Renton cry, wonder why everybody hates them, apologize, and give poetic monologues about how depressed they were, such as "I am a book with blank pages."

It' all about context. You can`t use the same word to describe war orphans who risk their lives every day and have been through traumatic experiences as the same word you use to describe rich suburban kids who cut themselves and have never had truly anything to be really be depressed about compared to many others.

One is real, the other is fake.

such as "I am a book with blank pages."Was it just me or did Eureka look older during that scene? If it wasn't that than there was something different but what was it? I mean her hair looked longer, was that it?

And there's alot of point to the little dream sequences Eureka has, like the "blank pages" thing.

This episode wasn't really the best episode out there but it keeps you on the edge of your seat. At this point anything can happen, will eureka recover? Will she die and renton fight for her memory? Will Eureka and renton get closer or further apart. At this point the series can go either way.

Having watched ahead I can also say that this episode leads to my favorite part of the series, while episode 11 opened the door a little making the series better, this episode kicked the door down and starts the series running.

eh, so I was close. Yeah I know about the blank pages thing since they went out of their way to actually give it a scene. So I know it means something too, but of course I don't know that either. They could have just made her say "I'm like a book without pages" and it would have still had the same effect.

Just incase Eureka didn't COMPLETELY remind you of Rei Ayanami yet, we get to see her with her hair down hanging in front of her eyes, while in the middle of a surrealistic introspective monologue about being empty inside or something. That should work.

Well, I still like her better than Rei. Renton's no Shinji Ikari though. Needs to cry a LOT more before he gets there. But he's well on his way!

(p.s. I'm kidding here, I like this show and don't think it's an Eva ripoff, though it's fun to compare)

Looks like this series will continue to revolve around Eureka's and Renton's feelings for each other! I missed the first part of this episode and a few episodes before that. What hapenned to cause Eureka to get so sick, she didn't think straight? Did Renton became more mature and not afraid of things since the last time I saw him. I also wonder if Eureka and Renton got into a fight that somehow made Eureka sick! Why is Holland so hard on Renton. Looks like in the next episode, Renton will not put up with it anymore and might fight back!
In the new theme song there is a girl with brown hair that looks a lot like Renton, will we finally get to see his sister?

Thinking back on that, it's kind of amazing how much different she looks with her hairclip off. I mean I first thought it was just because Eureka appeared younger but who knew a hairclip would make appear so different. Then again we're probably just use to it seeing it the first third of the series and so.

Although there is another comparision for Renton/Shinji: The famous father figure everyone in the "orginiazation" knows about who the kid dosen't really like. (Though Renton's father isn't there though. I was actually thinking that Gendo was kind of like Holland before remembering just how emotional Holland can appear and how his heart isn't just a black hole).

You're Wrong About That Master Moron...

.... It'd Be Assperience 2: Help Fill In Eureka's Blank Pages.:D

I missed the first part of this episode and a few episodes before that. What hapenned to cause Eureka to get so sick, she didn't think straight?

It happened during the time Eureka and Renton went into the Corrallian zone in episode 11-13 (along with the "pscyho girl" from the military Anenonme who is a lot like Eureka in some ways) and it seriously messed with her psyche. She hasn't been the same since. Not that there weren't other things though...

Did Renton became more mature and not afraid of things since the last time I saw him.

Renton grew a pair (sort of) in "Human Behavior" where he easily defeated some military mechs after him piloting the Nirvage alone. That also helped distance his relationship with Renton who was upset at the way Renton piloted Nirvage and also jealous, thinking the Nirvage liked Renton more then her. (Of course Eureka didn't realize it was jealously at first, being one of those "don't know what some feelings are" kind of girls).

In the new theme song there is a girl with brown hair that looks a lot like Renton, will we finally get to see his sister?

That one I don't know but it's a good guess. Her and that guy she's with though do look like characters you need to watch out for whenever they come to the series... whoever they are.

I don't know I kind of like FlyByNite77's point that Talho keeps telling Holland that he "musn't run away." I never thought of that!

Hmm, by this logic, Talho would be Misato Katsuragi. A drop-dead gorgeous female in a position of responsibility with a truckload of issues, in a secretive / outlaw organization fighting the governments. The hair's a bit lighter but, yeah. She's even starting to stand up for Renton (Shinji). I hope this doesn't mean she's going to start hitting on him.

Anyway, to the reason I came here.

Mr. Holland,

It has been my great honor and pleasure to be a member of the Gekko State for some time now, I forget how long. Sometimes I have trouble remembering my life before the Gekko State. That makes what I must now say all the more difficult.
Mr. Holland, do you remember when you recruited me for the Gekko State? Miss Eureka crashlanded on the house I shared with my grandfather (with whom you had previously been acquainted), and you came to her rescue. It was a dream come true for me, on several levels. You had always been my hero, and it was my dream to one day join the Gekko State.
Nevertheless, I did not dare to ask to join, however much I wanted to. If you will remember, you invited me to join. After due consideration, I gladly accepted your offer.
I didn't know exactly what to expect, although the things I went through in my first days and weeks were not things I had anticipated. It took some time for me to fit in, and I had some sizable difficulties to overcome, including the hazing incidents and the unreasoning - though understandable from my perspective when I thought of it - hatred of Eureka's 'children'. Eventually, though, I like to think that I did fit in, and became part of the Gekko State 'family.'
Recently, though, certain actions and incidents on your part and the parts of others have caused me to question whether I'm in the right place. As I have said, I didn't volunteer for the Gekko State, and I wasn't certain what to expect; but I don't think that I expected, and I don't recall your saying, that to serve as your whipping boy / punching bag was among my responsibilities.
I refer you to the recent incident with Mr. Bretany. While I acknowledge the heightened state that everyone's emotions are habitually at, perhaps at some time during the whole affair, you might have noticed that he had a gun on me the whole time, and that I had no choice in the matter whatsoever. For the record, I caught him trying to break into the Nirvash, whereupon he pulled the gun on me and forced me to get in and drive. You might have taken the trouble to find out the truth before subjecting me to what I view as an unnecessary beatdown.
The late incident involving Eureka's unusual behavior also comes to mind. When I returned with her - and I will say in all modesty that I did save her life - I found you ready to literally tear into me again, or at least is the impression I got from you; I apologize if I misjudged you in that regard.
On top of this, you have been less than forthcoming at what you expect of me. Also, I have of late been getting the feeling that my mere presence is a cause of intense disgust and despisement from you. In recent times it seems that I can't do anything that pleases you.
If you had said something, perhaps something along the lines of: "Renton, I'm sorry about this, but I have quite a number of issues which unfairly involve you. To try to assuage these issues, it will become necessary for me to abuse and humiliate you in front of everyone from time to time. It's not right, but that's how things are, and you'll just have to deal with it." Mr. Holland, I think I could have handled what I've been going through recently if you'd just said something like that.
I now come to the point of this letter. Much as it pains me on many levels, I find that my future on the Gekko State is at a crossroads, and you have it in your power to influence where I will go, and what I will do. I would very much like to stay here and continue with the Gekko State, but it is up to you to do or say something to influence my decision in that direction. If things continue as they are with no resolution, it will soon become necessary for me to part with my colleagues, those who have become my friends and family. The crisis could come at any time, any day.
With a heavy heart, I await your response.

Sadly,
Renton Thurston

But of course Renton would never get it into his head to voice or write even a fraction of anything like the above. I acknowledge that, but I think this does adequately encapsulate his feelings at this point in the series.

I think one of reason holland has angrish toward ren could be talho sudden intrest in ren. Notice how holland has a mental reaction whenever she call ren names? The look on his face when she slap him for beating on ren for no reason? Then there the time she called out renton`s name in her sleep,I mean the dude act like he was gonna cry.

Talho is not Renton's sister. He would be calling Talho "sis" instead of Talho.

v1cious, Renton's sister's hair LOOKS brown, and after finishing the series months ago, I believe it was brown. I am just arguing the fact that the brown-haired female character that looks like Renton is not Ray but his sister.
